I’m in tears and don’t want to go to an event I’ve been looking forward to for months because I have nothing to wear

Please help!

I’ve put on weight and generally feel awful. I had an outfit planned that I wasn’t 100% happy with because everyone has seen my wear hundreds of times but it was ok. Problem is there’s now a heat wave and it’s a long sleeved maxi dress so no good.

I’m 5ft 3, blonde, massive boobs, big hips and huge belly but with a defined waist. If I don’t have definition I look like a weeble.

The event is like a hen do with a daytime party boat, DJ, afternoon tea and then an evening do in a pub. Daytime is mainly women 35-45 then spouses and wider group in the evening. Even if was happy with my body I think I’d struggle to know what the right kind of thing to wear was.

Please help me enjoy myself and not feel awful. Budget would be a max of £200 but that would have to include shoes/ accessories.

I think the black one with white dots shows off your legs and looks nice on from what I can tell in the picture.

I'm not sure if it matches your event though, I'm terrible at those kind of social rules so I'll leave that to others to advise on!

Oceangrey · 14/08/2025 23:10

Lots of those look good on you, great choices.
I like the black one with the white trim, but the black jumpsuit in the second set also looks good. And I like the green kimono type dress on you too.

PeonyPatch · 14/08/2025 23:11

I actually think that the pink is the best. It’s a stunning colour on you. I don’t think black - at least these outfits - do much for you, think it washes you out.

Someone shared a pink aspiga dress and I think that could look lovely on you xx

Crunchy7 · 14/08/2025 23:21

The 2nd black dress looks lovely on you x

icantfindmyphone · 14/08/2025 23:33

do you follow Laura Adlington on insta ? she models lots of lovely dresses for curvy ladies 👍🏻

I think you might need a time machine to go to Debenhams...

Fair enough, a "department store"..... Hopefully Op knew what I meant..... Wink

The spotty dress looks lovely on you and will be cool in the heat too.

josa · 15/08/2025 05:27

I like the black spotty one on you it really shows off your curvy figure & lovely legs. Initially I liked the pink outfit and thought the colour was great on you but then read you felt uncomfortable in it. Pink is a good colour on you!

LastKnownSurvivor · 15/08/2025 07:47

I like the pink trouser suit on you best - the black spotty dress and the long green dress are also nice, but the green one especially has quite a formal look, whereas the trouser suit has 'effortless chic' vibes and it's also very slimming on you (if that's something you look for in an outfit, I always do but I know not everyone includes that as an outfit consideration).

Bluebluebluesky · 15/08/2025 08:07

Different to others… I love the long black dress with pattern and the plain black in second photos. I agree you really suit colours but I think those two will be fresh/new and you will feel
comfortable and likely to forget to feel self
concsiiou when you go out.

HollyGolightly4 · 15/08/2025 08:14

I love black spotty and black jumpsuit. Can see why you like green kimono, it's lovely, but maybe feels more weddingy. That said, anything you feel best in will look best!

sourdoughnogo · 15/08/2025 09:15

I like the black floral one in the first lot of photos, the v neck is really flattering.

ElBandito · 15/08/2025 09:16

Green kimono

Whistles have some great petite jumpsuits - I recently bought this and wore it for a daytime event that ran into the evening. I’m short and curvy / booby like you.

https://www.whistles.com/product/215275.html?

It’s linen so you won’t sweat badly and gentler cropped. I wore simple lowish wedge black sandals.

I have this in black, fell apart after two wears. Its been sent back. Looked lovely, awful quality.

chipsticksmammy · 15/08/2025 09:41

Its the pink separates for me.

Next at the moment have some lovely waistcoat & trousers combos in pastel blue and yellow.

Personally I would go for the Nobody Child starlight dress style. Its lovely on.

I just want to say that I love this thread. So many people trying to help. It’s lovely. This is left field but I am about to put this dress on Vinted. It’s from JL and a size 18. I’m 5’3” too and it is ankle length. Great with strappy sandals. And so flattering and comfortable. The photos don’t do it justice really! It’s lightweight fabric that hangs well. I am happy to today for delivery tomorrow if you’d like it OP.

What about a strapless top and a nice long skirt? Jeans might be too hot. If it’s a DJ party, you want to look cool. I would just lean in to it all. Nice bit of jewellery. Don’t hide away and the other girls will be asking you where you got your top from and you’ll feel young and cool. Big smile, by the way, font hide. Confidence is everything.

That’s so kind but I have to leave in the morning so it would be cutting too fine. I’m sure someone else will snap up your lovely dress though.

I love that you've modelled all the outfits for us! For your function type, I think the spotty dress looks amazing on you. If I had a waist like that, I'd absolutely show it off with a dress like this. The black jumpsuit looks flattering but a little unexciting (and pure black in hot sun, uggh no thanks). My second favourite is the long blue dress with the bow, the colours are beautiful on you. I also really like the yellow dress, it looks like it was made to measure on you, but perhaps it's a little too wedding guest/tea party to take you into the evening?

Whatever you decide, I bet you'll look just perfect, and I really hope you have a great time!

XiCi · 15/08/2025 13:59

I think the polka dot dress looks miles better than anything else. Hope you have a lovely time whatever choose OP.

Fairnair · 15/08/2025 14:25

I personally think you suit colour better than the all black options, but I do like the Black floral & the polka dot dress from the first set of pictures, and the green kimono dress is gorgeous in the 2nd set of pictures. The dresses generally look more flattering on you than the trouser options, plus I think they be far too hot. Pick the one you “feel” best in, good luck x

TitaniasAss · 15/08/2025 14:47

I love the green kimono style one on you.

JamesWebbSpaceTelescope · 15/08/2025 15:19

Which one have you decided on?

(The black spot one is still my favourite)

XelaM · 15/08/2025 16:26

I love the yellow dress on you OP!!
