I’m in tears and don’t want to go to an event I’ve been looking forward to for months because I have nothing to wear

Please help!

I’ve put on weight and generally feel awful. I had an outfit planned that I wasn’t 100% happy with because everyone has seen my wear hundreds of times but it was ok. Problem is there’s now a heat wave and it’s a long sleeved maxi dress so no good.

I’m 5ft 3, blonde, massive boobs, big hips and huge belly but with a defined waist. If I don’t have definition I look like a weeble.

The event is like a hen do with a daytime party boat, DJ, afternoon tea and then an evening do in a pub. Daytime is mainly women 35-45 then spouses and wider group in the evening. Even if was happy with my body I think I’d struggle to know what the right kind of thing to wear was.

Please help me enjoy myself and not feel awful. Budget would be a max of £200 but that would have to include shoes/ accessories.

Ah @CultureAlienationBoredomandDespair I really feel for you.....It's horrible when you aren't comfortable in your own skin Sad

Might be missing the point, but do you have time to get to a department store, like Debenhams and find a lovely new dress to try on before you buy?
With £200 budget, keep half of that to one side and get your nails or hair or both done before the hen party.

Long term, maybe this is the kick up your booty to start losing a little weight?
No judgement here, I've just started losing weight as I got to the point I was wearing the same baggy tops and shorts, because most of my clothes were too tight - it's rubbish x

Good luck Flowers

I think you might need a time machine to go to Debenhams...

I hope you find something gorgeous and feel fabulous! I feel the same as you with a 5 year old and almost 2 year old. My body has changed so much and I've totally lost my confidence. I've never opened every link on a thread before but what wonderful inspiration. Beautiful outfits. You've all inspired me to update my wardrobe and get myself back!

PeonyPatch · 14/08/2025 11:36

Have you made a decision or ordered anything yet, OP?

Have you made a decision or ordered anything yet, OP?

Yes, I’ve ordered 10 outfits that are due to arrive today. I’ll update when I make a decision.

I was like you op and I just couldn't bear it anymore so I started a diet.

I lost 2 stone in a month, I'm 7 weeks in and well on my way.

I say this kindly.

CultureAlienationBoredomandDespair · 14/08/2025 14:45

Some of the outfits. I won’t say what I like and don’t like so that opinions are not skewed. I like a couple but I don’t think there’s a wow one.

I love the short black and white one or the last green blue kimono one

JamesWebbSpaceTelescope · 14/08/2025 14:53

Polka dot with the pink detail around the neck is my favourite.

Silvers11 · 14/08/2025 14:54

If you want honest opinions, the Yellow one in the first batch, does absolutely nothing for you at all. Neither does the Black one in the second batch of photos. It's difficult to tell from the other photos what they look like from the side, but the black one with the white spots in the first batch or the sleeveless blue multi colour one in the second batch look as if they suit you best?

SoScarletItWas · 14/08/2025 14:56

My fave by far is the black jumpsuit with white trim.

I also like the last dress but not for this event.

Trovindia · 14/08/2025 14:59

The pink or the graduated blue (second to last pic) are the only ones that seem flattering on you from these pics but you will be able to tell better in real life.
I feel like all the black ones hide any definition.

Yes I was going to say same thing!

DrizzleMemory · 14/08/2025 15:09

Black jumpsuit with white trim or the blue pink long flowery dress.

Which one makes you feel good OP?

well done!

CultureAlienationBoredomandDespair · 14/08/2025 15:09

Interestingly the black jumpsuit with white trim was my favourite when I ordered it but it feels tight and I don’t think it really did anything for me whereas the black one in the second batch seemed really slimming but just looks like a black blob in the pic 😂

Better underwear is in order with all of them

CultureAlienationBoredomandDespair · 14/08/2025 15:10

The short black spotty one felt really great but as I looked in the mirror it seemed a bit unbalanced and the top half was a bit big.

CultureAlienationBoredomandDespair · 14/08/2025 15:13

My favourites were the long blue one (but not sure it’s right for the occasion), the black jumpsuit or the green kimono style one.

I dont think any of the black ones do anything for you, sorry - i also gravitate towards black but dont look great in it. Maybe its the photos though? I like your taste, that ricrac black one is very nice. The green kimono is fab and I actually really like the pink too!

CultureAlienationBoredomandDespair · 14/08/2025 15:22

Yeah I don’t think black actually does do much for me and don’t tend to go for it much. I think I was tempted by the black v neck jumpsuit as I could wear it for work with a shirt under 😂

I liked the retro style of the pink but I don’t think it’s at all flattering irl and the material feels horrible.

The green kimono is the one that feels the nicest and coolest.

I was going to order the one hundred stars stork dress yesterday but delivery was £13! Plus is was a bit put off by the fact that it’s one size fits all.

I like the black jumpsuit with the white trim best. It's also quite versatile in that you could wear it again with different hair, earrings, etc
