I’m in tears and don’t want to go to an event I’ve been looking forward to for months because I have nothing to wear

Please help!

I’ve put on weight and generally feel awful. I had an outfit planned that I wasn’t 100% happy with because everyone has seen my wear hundreds of times but it was ok. Problem is there’s now a heat wave and it’s a long sleeved maxi dress so no good.

I’m 5ft 3, blonde, massive boobs, big hips and huge belly but with a defined waist. If I don’t have definition I look like a weeble.

The event is like a hen do with a daytime party boat, DJ, afternoon tea and then an evening do in a pub. Daytime is mainly women 35-45 then spouses and wider group in the evening. Even if was happy with my body I think I’d struggle to know what the right kind of thing to wear was.

Please help me enjoy myself and not feel awful. Budget would be a max of £200 but that would have to include shoes/ accessories.

@CultureAlienationBoredomandDespair I like the second one from each set of pics on you.

Clementine183 · 14/08/2025 15:52

I'm surprised several are saying the black with white trim as I think it's the least flattering of all of them. I think the black and white spotty one and the sleeveless blue and green suit your proportions best.

GAJLY · 14/08/2025 15:54

I absolutely love the green kimono on you!

OctopusLover · 14/08/2025 15:56

The long blue/turquoise sleeveless dress is gorgeous!

Skissors · 14/08/2025 16:35

I think the last three pics - black dress, 2 blue ones are all good .

FanofLeaves · 14/08/2025 16:40

I’m sorry but I don’t think any of them are quite it and yes I know that’s not helpful at all. If I had to pick I’d say the plain black jumpsuit. Perhaps it’s just a case of better underwear and accessories and heels though. Possibly the spotty one, although it needs a good iron.

Edit to say on second look I actually think the 2nd dress from the first set of pics, is the one you seem most comfortable in. It’s a nice dress.

I feel your pain. I’m 5ft3, size 18-20 (20, who am I kidding) with GG knockers. I can look like the prow of a ship if I am not careful. Scarlett & Jo are your friend. Really well cut for our shape and make you feel great while keeping you cool. The maxis are probably a bit long unless you are planning to wear heels. The midis and midaxis are perfect for shorties.

The black spotty one.
Most of them seem too long?

JustSaying10 · 14/08/2025 17:21

I like short dress or kimono or sleeveless. You did good!

JustSawJohnny · 14/08/2025 17:30

The black floral and the green kimono style look most flattering from pics.

Any chance you can get DH to take pics so your arms are down?

It's difficult to see how things hang with your arms up like that.

TheLeadbetterLife · 14/08/2025 17:31

I think the pink two piece looks best - the colour is great, it's sharp, fun and stylish. Is that the one with the horrid fabric? That's a shame if so.

The black ric-rac jumpsuit is also good, but would be nicer on you in a colour rather than black. You look fab in the brighter colours.

On the trousers you need to take up the hems so they just break on the tops of your feet.

justasking111 · 14/08/2025 18:13

The green one as far as I can tell, lovely pattern.

Carzycat · 14/08/2025 18:17

I like the long black floral one!

CultureAlienationBoredomandDespair · 14/08/2025 15:10

The short black spotty one felt really great but as I looked in the mirror it seemed a bit unbalanced and the top half was a bit big.

I'd say that's the best by some distance. Perhaps take few more photos of that and your other faves? Get someone else to take photos if you can as a pp suggested. I wouldn't want to hide those very shapely legs under a load of voluminous material, especially if the weather is hot where you are.

Carzycat · 14/08/2025 18:22

The green kimono one is nice too, just doesn’t look as cool but if it feels it all good. I don’t think the buttons sit right on the pink jumpsuit.
I think I must be picking what I think would look nice on me. I didn’t like the black one with white trim at all,

Idontpostmuch · 14/08/2025 18:47

Iheartmysmart · 12/08/2025 18:05

I’m slightly shorter than you and also have massive boobs so dressing for anything is a nightmare! As it’s going to be really warm, what about something like this. It comes in petite length as well. https://www.aspiga.com/products/tabitha-organic-cotton-dobby-dress-bright-pink?variant=43675221622964

This would be my choice. I too am 5ft 3 with fat tummy, but no waist, unlike lucky you 😄. Whatever you wear, have a good time.

ItsFineReally · 14/08/2025 18:52

Agree with this.

I also like the plain black from the second tranche. The green one is probably my third choice - especially if cooler than it looks.

Of the ones you tried on, I like the yellow, green, pink and blue.

DailyEnergyCrisis · 14/08/2025 19:47

Green kimono or black v neck (think it’s a jumpsuit), you look so well proportioned and both show your defined waist.

Daisymail · 14/08/2025 20:47

The short black spotty dress. As someone has already pointed out, you have very shapely legs, don't hide them under yards of fabric.

ZippyDeer · 14/08/2025 21:01

I’ve studied them all carefully and, although I dismissed it at first, I think the short spotty one really suits your lovely figure and you look to be comfortable wearing it. It is quite fashionable and should be cool. Do you have some nice sandals or shoes to go with it? You picked a good variety to try and I bet that was fun to do.

Moneybum · 14/08/2025 21:17

Green kimono!!

but really whichever makes you feel best on the day… Confidence is key 🙂

lucillevanpelt · 14/08/2025 21:48

I like the second (black patterned) one in the first set, and the dark jumpsuit and the green kimono one in the second set.

Green one if I had to choose right now.

I think this is the Next website photo of the green dress - it looks a bit brighter/more vibrant than your photo - expect the reality is somewhere in between!
