Blouse/ shirt gaping

Stupid stupid fake pockets or pockets that are too shallow to fit anything bigger than a lip balm.

Nitgel · 03/08/2025 17:25

Balloon sleeves

RosesAndHellebores · 03/08/2025 17:31

Trousers with the pockets sewn up! Why? I always get caught the first time I wear them. The same with jackets.

Labels that can be ripped off leaving a spiky little plastic loop.

Nasty nylon labels at the neck of tops and dresses, which get caught on a warm/hotting iron and melt a bit and then itch and scratch until you cut them out.

CheerfulBunny · 03/08/2025 17:39

Badly made garments which have buttonholes so big so that you're constantly worried you'll expose your breasts if you brush past something. (Looking at you, Quiz and Nobody's Child!) Also fraying, mean seam allowances and tiny overlaps at closures.

Dresses that are so low cut and so bra exposing I cannot imagine who would possibly go out wearing them.

BrickBiscuit · 03/08/2025 17:40

Trousers with only four or five belt loops, unlike the seven I seem to remember being routine years (ie several decades) ago.

DeclutteringJane · 03/08/2025 17:40

When they make it so low cut that for smaller sizes your bra just sticks out of your clothes.

hattie43 · 03/08/2025 17:41

I’ve bought a phase 8 shirt and the button placement is such that it gapes open at the bust . Really infuriating

CheerfulBunny · 03/08/2025 17:43

Oh and literally stacked labels on some garments (yes you, h&m!) in about 20 different languages which are as thick as a paperback novel.

DeclutteringJane · 03/08/2025 17:43

Oh or where they make the straps so long (and non-adjustable) that they just constantly fall off your shoulders.

Makemydaypunk · 03/08/2025 17:44

So called waists on dresses being directly under the boobs.

DeclutteringJane · 03/08/2025 17:45

Also trouser legs designed only for giraffes and people on stilts (I'm not petite either) with no trouser length options.

CheerfulBunny · 03/08/2025 17:48

Crappy, nasty, cheap self tie belts can get in the bin as well (ooh, my dander's up now!)

limetrees32 · 03/08/2025 17:49

labels sewn into the seam so that removing them leaves a hole .

hopspot · 03/08/2025 17:51

I hate the assumption that everyone has a narrow waist. My shape is more boyish and I cannot find trousers or skirts that fit round the waist and the legs. In order to fit my waist the legs are baggy.

Candleabra · 03/08/2025 17:53

No linings, nothing is lined anymore.
Even expensive items. It really spoils the look of clothes.

musicalfrog · 03/08/2025 17:57

Singlet tops with the straps too far apart for a normal person's width. Who buys them???

Daisyvodka · 03/08/2025 18:00

The bonkers assumption that everyone has bloody C cup boobs which on my most murderous days i think is perpetuated by M&S and their weird sizing for both bras and clothes.

Marlaysydney12 · 03/08/2025 18:04

Dropped shoulder jumpers and shirts. Make you look like a brick if your larger on top, and scruffy if you're smaller.
Short zips on jeans ( the zip stops way above the crotch) just looks really cheap.

Britpopbaby · 03/08/2025 18:23

Button loops on clothing that is made of elastic. I have seen dresses left on display where several of the loops have broken which is hardly an advert for buying somethingJust spend a little more and make them in fabric.

OP posts:
soupyspoon · 03/08/2025 18:27

Oh god so many of these.

Plus labels on scarves which mean that when its draped round your neck the label shows on the bit hanging down

The long loops for using when hanging tops meaning they just fall out of your neck line all the time

soupyspoon · 03/08/2025 18:27

Also button holes that are too small to get the button in comfortably.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 03/08/2025 18:36

Cheap buttons on everything.

l was looking at some photos of me as a tween in late 70’s.

Really lovely buttons on everything. Now it’s just nasty plastic plain ones.

Britpopbaby · 03/08/2025 18:51

See through white tops, some at more premium price points too!

AsCoolAsKimDeal · 03/08/2025 19:17

High waists and/or high necklines on everything. The assumption that if you’ve got a big bust you must be big everywhere. Uncomfortable knickers. Hems that fall down, buttons that drop off. Polyester for the price of silk (looking at you, ME+EM).

MrsMoastyToasty · 03/08/2025 19:33

The assumption by clothing retailers that if you are a size 20 or above then you must also be 6ft tall
My most successful purchase recently was a pair of culottes which finished mid calf on the model's legs in the online photo. On me they are full length.
