Ok, so i fell in love with this dress resisted but then it appeared in the sale really cheap so succumbed. Now i have it i wonder if its a bit dressy and perhaps young ( im 63 but a young 63 not too haggard of face yet) was thinking of wearing it next weekend on a river boat party, what do you think?
im a size 14 / 16

Also wondering what shoes to wear? I have lace effect trainers, clunky boots, delicate black sandals and various different coloured comfy flats, cant do heels

Surely (speaking from experience) everyone who is 63 looks the way a 63 year old looks?

It seems so odd and … retrograde to write I’m 63 but.

Being 63 doesn’t require apology or excuse or an attempt to separate oneself from other humans of the same age.

The idea of the dress is fine, but that one looks cheap.

I’ve had my eye on this one …

I fear it will all look very droopy. And it does look cheap.

MiddleAgedDread · 31/07/2025 13:09

I think it only looks good on the model because she's tall and thin, it's unlikely to be well made at that price so could look like you're wearing a duvet cover if you're not careful!

AnchorWHAT · 31/07/2025 13:10

To be fair, it was cheap, but I don't mind, its not something i think i will wear a lot

I think it looks lovely and isn’t super dressy or overly young in style. I agree at that price point the quality of the fabric and cut may not be ideal, I wouldn’t normally look in that shop myself for clothes, however if that’s your budget, that’s your budget! And I think it looks pretty good for the money but maybe may not wash/wear that well long term sort of thing. I think you should get it and I’d wear it with chunky boots unless it’s too hot for that in which case either the trainers or sandals you mention would be fine. Perfect for a river boat party I think!

Thank you, i will try that, agree it wont last but I wouldn't pay hundreds for a dress i wont wear much, the romantic floatiness of it appealed 😀

I don’t think it’s overly dressy or young.

It is way more fussy than anything I would wear, and I am a similar age to you OP. I would just wear with flat sandals, trainers or boots.

DeLaRuiz · 31/07/2025 13:25

It’s lovely how feminine it is. yes it looks very inexpensive, but once youve dressed it up with your accessories it will be less apparent. I love how frivolous and girlie it is.

DeLaRuiz · 31/07/2025 13:26

On I forgot! You age doesn’t matter at all on this!

Coffeeishot · 31/07/2025 13:27

I don't understand im.63 but.. ..if you like it buy it and wear it, personally I don't like it but it isn't because of my age.

£486 😳 I'd want it hemmed in gold for that !!

OP - I like the dress. I'm sure you will look lovely.

Seaside3 · 31/07/2025 13:28

I like it. I'd wear it with boots and some chunky wooden bracelets to juxtapose the floaty element. Maybe some fine, long gold necklacees.
Do it, and to hell with caring what people think.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 31/07/2025 13:29

Oh I wasn’t expecting that when I clicked the link.
i think it’s lovely, modest, timeless
wear with black sandals I think
absolutely fine for 63

Purplecatshopaholic · 31/07/2025 13:29

Love the style of that. I couldn’t hack the polyester myself though. I’d wear something like that with chunky boots or flat gladiator sandals. And age is a number! Wear what you love.

Thank you, i feel a bit more confident about it now. With my gold jewellry i think it might look less cheap, perhaps with gold sandals too. None of my friends are likely to be designer dressed from head to toe so doubt i will be judged because its not a £400 + outfit 😀

How does it look on you, @AnchorWHAT? (I mean, is it as you imagined it would be?) And have you tried it with all your footwear? Clumpy boots seem the stylish choice, assuming they’re wearable on the boat.

(In case it needs saying, I haven’t bought the CB frock because it still hasn’t reached an acceptable sale price …)

BitOutOfPractice · 31/07/2025 13:32

My worry is that it’s quite a droopy dress in a droopy colour iykwim but that might just be my prejudice as I cannot wear that colour.

it’s much fussier than I would wear myself (similar age) but if you like it I think it’s perfect for a boat party. Can I come?

Ohh thats a good idea, i have wooden stuff, and maybe a straw bag to dress it down a bit instead of gold to dress it up. I feel a big trying on session coming on 😀

Teado · 31/07/2025 13:33

The material looks a bit scratchy and sweaty but I really like the style and the colour.

Comefromaway · 31/07/2025 13:34

I'd dress it down with boots and a biker jacket or dress it up with tan sandals and gold jewellery.

But I agree the material looks sweaty (polyester often is)

I like it on but not used to wearing ‘girly’ for want of a better word so was worried it would be too dressy but several responses suggest not if i style it right. Try on session later on

I sort of like it in theory but from the front it does remind me of a nightie my mum had in the 70s.
