I paid the hairdresser, but my hair looks terrible. My after pictures look like before pictures

I used a hairdresser I have not used before. I had half head foil highlights and said I didn't want a bright blonde as I was happy with my existing colour, I just wanted enough to blend/disguise my grey roots. The hairdresser put the foils on then straight after she did the last foil, she took me to the sink to rinse. Usually, I would have the foils on to process a while before rinsing so I did think this was unusual. The toner was left to process while she cut another clients hair, I don't know how long though. I have attached pictures of my results. I don't have time to go back to have this corrected before my holiday, and I'm not sure if I would trust her anyway. I paid £130, I've never spent that much on my hair before but saved up to have my hair done especially for my graduation. I have paid a lot of money to look so terrible, I even want to cancel the photographer for my graduation because I'm so embarrassed and upset with how I look. Would I be reasonable to request a refund?

I think it looks over processed to me not under

You can see a line on blonde, then a bright white band then a darker line at the root. So the hairdresser has basically just added a white band on top of your greys making it look more grey.

Personally I would contact the salon now, for a refund and also to se if there's anyone else who can sort it out now for you. I wouldn't go putting box dye on or anything without the advise of a hairdresser because that may just make the problem worse.

How are they highlighting greys without bleach?

What do you mean by a second colour? Do you mean the tint? You chose not to have it ?

Yes I usually have a brown and a blonde. The price she wanted to charge for the extra colour was too much. She said it was because of the extra product required although there would be less of the other product so I couldn't justify paying extra £30. Plus, the darker colours I picked she kept telling me it wouldn't work and kept pointing to a dark almost black brown. Maybe she didn't have the colours in stock. I don't know. Probably a good thing i decided against it, I cant imagine how much worse it would look wity dark stripes through my greys 🫤

That's still not clear. Are you saying you were offered a tint for 30 and the highlights would then go over and between that? If this is what you mean then I'm not surprised it looks like that. Eg "Highlights and tint, when combined in a hair coloring service, create a multi-tonal, dimensional look by adding lighter sections (highlights) and refreshing or blending the base color with a tint. Highlights add lightness and contrast while a tint can be used to soften the overall effect or add a subtle color to the base"

or do you mean a second colour as a different highlight?

Go back and ask for a refund or a recolour with another stylist.
my regular hairdresser did my hair once and I just didn’t like it - it felt too yellow blonde and not ashy enough.
I messaged her and she immediately invited me back in and she corrected the colour for free. Even though I was happy to pay!

Usually with my usual hairdresser, when I go for half head foils I have one blonde and one brown and have them both fine rather than chunky. I asked for the same with this hairdresser but she said it would cost more. It wouldn't be extra foils, so alternate blonde and brown. I didn't want to pay the extra, no one else has ever charged me extra. And if the extra was just about product used it wouldn't be £30. So I only had the blonde, and she only did the tops rather than the full length

That's really bad. Complain, ask for the senior stylist (not her) to fix it.

Well that's the problem then here is that there was no tint applied to your hair underneath so yes all the grey will show. Here's a pic of my hair with a lot of growth ( think it was covid time) . You can't just put highlights onto that and leave the rest. She does highlights and then puts a tint on the rest to hide the grey and also give it warmer colour which goes with the highlights.

It then ends up like this

Ohhh thats not good, I would definitely be getting a refund for that. I have bleached blonde hair and get a smokey toner on too. If you can't get your hair fixed maybe try osmo black ice shampoo and conditioner on it to brighten and take the yellow out, I love that stuff 😃
