Camilla's blue dress I think is a classic for her, the strong blue and her favourite silhouette. I'm guessing the brooch is significant?
Leonor looks fantastic in that uniform, very smart and I think she's completed her training?
Leti's dress I don't like, it's a rare fall for me with all frills and tiers.

Pretty sure I’ve seen Camilla’s dress several times before, and the shoes.
I can’t quite work out what the brooch is even by zooming in but I think it has the outline of a dog.

At the risk of pitting Elizabeth Taylor's legacy against Princess Margaret's, Dame Elizabeth Taylor was not frivolous. Like most of us she may have had her moments of frivolity and certainly her life was over the top in many ways. But she championed the cause of AIDS when very few people were doing it and helped establish two foundations that are still active today. Her humanitarian contributions are one of the reasons that she was made a Dame.

Camilla is wearing the badge of HMS Astute. She has served as Lady Sponsor of HMS Astute since 2007 and today marked the end of the submarine's historic first commission. Having maintained a close connection with the vessel over the years, Queen Camilla has written regularly to the crew and, according to a naval source, recently "sent English breakfast tea and shortbread, which was 'really well received on board.'"

It was also announced today that she has become the first woman and the first member of the Royal Family to be named Vice Admiral of the United Kingdom.

Mathilde went to an art exhibition today and dressed to match the statue. The fake cape effect with a single cold shoulder is an ‘interesting’ choice. Not her best look.

I was referring to the time of the incident mentioned, 1982, and the likely social attitudes of that time of a born royal towards a Hollywood one. Taylor didn't become involved in AIDS campaigning until the mid 80s. In 1982, her acting career had long waned, she was an alcoholic, and she had been married 7 times, helping to break up at least one marriage/family, that of Eddie Fisher to Debi Reynolds, before dumping him for Richard Burton. She had more or less morphed into a socialite/celebrity. I don't think, at that time, frivolous is too harsh a descriptor for her. And it was a light hearted comment.

It’s Camilla’s 78th birthday on Thursday and the HMS Astute crew gave her an early birthday present of…a specially engraved clingfilm holder!!!

The gift marks an inside joke as clingfilm kept the sub going when they used it to wrap the engines 2 and a half years ago! Camilla found this v amusing and upon seeing the gift exclaimed “the famous clingfilm!” The submariners engraved the gift with a special message: “Clingfilm, keeping Nuclear Submarines at Sea”. Fear not - the sub is off for a refit now.

That's definitely in what do you gift someone who has everything category

locketrocket · 17/07/2025 00:20

I really love Leti’s dress, which is unusual for me as I’m not a frilly person, iykwim.

Mathilde, however, is just odd.

MotherofPearl · 17/07/2025 07:35

Nice to see you back on the thread @SenecaFallsRedux. We’ve not seen you round these parts for ages!

I also like Leti’s dress and find it perplexing as I’m not usually a fan of tiers and frills. Maybe the fact that it’s not floral helps, and the fabric looks quite structured rather than floaty.

Maireas · 17/07/2025 07:36

Yes, @MotherofPearl - I was just thinking the same!
Nice to see you back, @SenecaFallsRedux ! 😊

Mathilde's dress could look really nice, so I don't know what's gone wrong, something about the fit.

I’m not usually a frills and tiers fan either but really like Leti’s dress. As for Mathilde, it looks like her dress got caught and wrenched the shoulder seam.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 17/07/2025 07:50

Found you all & thanks for the new thread @Maireas (although we're racing through it again)

Here's a very recent photo of Camille Gottlieb (Stephanie of Monaco's Daughter) wearing a dress just like her Grandmother Princess Grace wore in the film Rear Window (love that film but always makes me feel very hot ☀️ watching it)

Thanks, y'all. I've been keeping up with the threads, which are by far my favorite corner of MN.

KnickerlessParsons · 17/07/2025 14:40

I can't keep up with these updates over the last week or so - I check MN several times once a day and there are loads of new posts every time!

Grace Kelly was so beautiful.

Maireas · 17/07/2025 16:23

Camilla's birthday picture is really lovely. She looks so natural and relaxed. I think that dress got positive responses on this thread as well!

Grace Kelly was so beautiful.

Wasn't she? So elegant, an ice cool blonde. I like Camille's version of the dress, as well.

Think I'm with you on this one. Sensible frilly dress ought to be a contradiction in terms. It's sombre and restrained when it needs some flamboyance, a touch of vivid colour and a bit of va va voom.

I thought it a nod to flamenco

justasking111 · 17/07/2025 21:03

Did any ever see Beatrice wedding dress on display?

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 17/07/2025 21:03

That's a lovely photo of Camilla - makes me think of my late Nan as both of them have/had twinkly eyes.
