I think it’s fine OP, it looks really nice on you. It would be wedding appropriate with black accessories.

Surely a multitude of colours / styles of dresses would ‘stand out’ more in photos than the OP’s. Moot point IMO.

As the title says really. I was hoping to wear it for a nieces weddings next weekend. DH thinks it’s fine, I’m having doubts! I would wear it with black accessories.

It looks like a huge viscose bandage. It is also too white.

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 06/07/2025 18:53

It’s lovely. You’ll look great.

For those that have commented that’s it’s awful, I actually own the dress and really like it 😂 I wore it on a cruise last week and thought I looked quite nice. I won’t be wearing it to the wedding, I knew it was too white, DH made me doubt my judgement.

You look gorgeous.

CitizenZ · 06/07/2025 18:55

It's a lovely dress, and completely wedding appropriate.

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 06/07/2025 18:58

The sticking out in photos is because in wedding photos you instinctively look for the white for the bride. The op would stand out

DappledThings · 06/07/2025 19:01

It's got massive black spots on it. It's ridiculous to consider it too white. The whote is completely broken up by the spots. It's completely fine.

You look gorgeous in it. The lighting in your pic is much better, showing the folds and draping in the fabric. It looks totally different. I do still think too white for a wedding though.

It looks exactly the same. I can’t see how anyone hates it on the model but likes it on the OP. It’s a nice summer dress. not my style but it’s pretty

OP of you could swap out the sash with a black patent belt and wore black shoes and a black bag and maybe something black on your head you’d probably be fine.

IYO

Quirkswork · 06/07/2025 19:03

I love it! Actually I usually don't like the dresses people suggest for themselves when asking this question but this I like. I think if you wore a black jacket and hat you could get away with the white issue.

Foreverm0re · 06/07/2025 19:06

Just don’t wear white to a wedding unless you’re the bride. I’m not sure why so many on here struggle with that.
OP it’s a nice dress but not for a wedding.

Well yes. Is that not the premise of a forum?

Weddings are not all about photos.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen myself on anyone else’s wedding photos.

I don’t instinctively look for a bride or white in a photo, why would I? I have no idea what colour someone getting married might choose to wear. Is anyone mentioning a groom? Do they get to stand out? Is anyone getting cross if people wear the same colour as them?

Its madness! It’s a party! Wear something nice that you like, that’s the only directive!

My friend planned to wear a white jump suit to her brothers wedding. Totally white, with white stilettos and white clutch. Even her brother said NO!

Yes, but you were dismissing me / my opinion so I just made the point.

CrushingOnRubies · 06/07/2025 19:11

Too white for a wedding. The style really suits you though, could you get the yellow/ cream version for the wedding?

Yachties · 06/07/2025 19:13

Why don’t you get the yellow version

Fabric and drape look a lot nicer on OP's pic than on the model and it suits her body shape.
Still a "no" to wearing it to the wedding
Definitely A "no" to adding a patent leather belt. That would ruin the line and make a nice dress look tacky and dated, sorry.

DorothyStorm · 06/07/2025 19:16

makingthecut · 06/07/2025 18:32

It’s not about it looking like a wedding dress. Some say it’s because white will massively stand out in photos where really the bride should be the one standing out.

Many couples wouldn’t be bothered but when there’s a shitload of other colours you could wear, there’s absolutely no reason to wear a white dress.

I like it but I also like the yellow.

ruethewhirl · 06/07/2025 19:17

I'll never understand why dresses that are very clearly not wedding dresses are considered unacceptable just because they're white. I think you're absolutely fine OP, and personally I think it's a lovely dress.

FrodoBiggins · 06/07/2025 19:17

Yachties · 06/07/2025 19:13

Agreed, the yellow is pretty and you know the style suits you (and which size to buy!)

RAPSMom · 06/07/2025 19:17

A niece of mine wore white (I blame my SiL, as niece was only young and her Mom bought her clothes) at the wedding of my other niece. . . It was so wrong, took the focus off the bride in the photos!

mudinthelane · 06/07/2025 19:17

No one will think you are the bride. It is a lovely dress, and you already own it. That's a win for me. I am assuming the wedding is in the summer in the UK, so you will probably end up wearing a cardy on top anyway! My only problem is that it will show every bit of food/wine you spill down your front (or maybe you aren't as messy as me...)

ruethewhirl · 06/07/2025 19:19

And another thing. I take it people realise not all women get married in white, or even off-white?

I didn't like it on the model but it looks lovely on you! I agree though, I wouldn't wear it to a wedding.
