Well style mavens, that last thread went quickly! Let's hope we get more royal fashion to analyse. I think we need some tiara action, though.

The brooch is one of Queen Mary's, inherited by QEII, and Camilla wore it for the first time last year, also in Scotland.

StartupRepair · 01/07/2025 21:57

@Onprozacandmyhighhorse what lovely photos! Envious of this outing. Anne looks very sweet in that photo.

Maireas · 01/07/2025 21:58

Thanks, @WorkingRoyalNotTwerkingRoyal - I knew someone would have the info! I like the fact that Queen Mary is wearing it on her hat! It's a lovely piece.

Mary's probably got six more brooches on her coat and eight on her dress and 16 strings of pearls and and and. She was definitely a believer in more is more when it came to the bling!

Eaumyword · 01/07/2025 22:15

Fab photos @Onprozacandmyhighhorse!
Cams looks fab in the strong blue and Anne looks purposeful, striding along!
Leti looks great in her skirt/shirt combo and I love Sophie's dress. Very summery.
Love the ice cream pic - she looks like she's enjoying it!😆

Lifestooshort71 · 01/07/2025 22:23

Anne has a selection of hats, jackets and skirts tucked away, some of them match, some of them make a good fist of it and some of thrm just miss the mark. The skirts are all the same length from a time when she was young and heaven help any young aide who suggests a revamp or a tweak of her wardrobe! Anne is my favourite royal, she reminds me of my late sister and she's brave and loyal and dedicated to the job 😊

jeffgoldblum · 02/07/2025 01:38

I liked Camilla and Anne’s outfits, not enough ladies wear blue !

Maireas · 02/07/2025 06:25

@GetDressedYouMerryGentlemen too true about the great Queen Mary, a bejewelled icon. This is a woman who wore a tiara to dinner every evening. Kudos.

How many necklaces?

Oh I do love Camilla’s blue at the library but it’s a very dressy outfit for a library visit. Looks more suited to a wedding or a race meeting.
Anne just misses the mark style wise as she so often does, so when she doesn’t and actually nails it, makes it extra special iykwim.
The Dutch royals are great. They always look so happy to be in each other’s company.
Zara has that too. She always looks energised meeting family at events.

Maireas · 02/07/2025 07:25

Camilla wore a polkadot dress to the library. The blue outfit with the hat was for the Holyrood garden party.
I know what you mean about Anne, she's got a certain approach to formal dressing, and when she gets it right, she looks great.
I am of the opinion that she looks better in uniform, though!

deeahgwitch · 02/07/2025 07:40

Thank you for clarifying re Camilla’s outfit.
There was a certain formality to it even for the garden party. I think it’s the hat.
I amn’t a fan but can admire her “fashion nous”. She rarely gets it wrong.
That’s some brooch 😮

Maireas · 02/07/2025 07:44

Yep, Mary knew jewels!

How many necklaces?

Blimey! Mary is like a toddler let loose in the dressing up box.
I see Lady Louise’s resemblance to her there (facially not in terms of jewellery…)

WorkingRoyalNotTwerkingRoyal · 02/07/2025 08:30

Oh yes Mary loved her bling. As did Alexandra.

I think people expect the Queen to be quite dressed up/formal for a Royal garden party.

WorkingRoyalNotTwerkingRoyal · 02/07/2025 08:37

@Maireas I agree, I junk Anne always looks fantastic in uniform.

Alexandra.

Serenster · 02/07/2025 08:45

I love that photo of Alexandra. If you peer, you can see she has a whole diamond fringe tiara draped around her waist! In case the crown, ropes of pearls and diamonds and countless brooches weren’t quite hitting the mark. 🤣

WorkingRoyalNotTwerkingRoyal · 02/07/2025 08:52

Yes @Serenster it's the opposite of Coco Chanel: Before you finish dressing, look in the mirror and add 10 more things!

I was thinking the very same re Coco Chanel’s quote and QM’s bling @WorkingRoyalNotTwerkingRoyal
Was she the Royal who, if she visited, one hid ones most loved or most valuable possessions because if Mary cast her eye on it, it was game over, you had to give it to her. Or was that Alexandra ?
A psychiatrist’s dream of a subject to study I think 😀

WorkingRoyalNotTwerkingRoyal · 02/07/2025 09:25

Yes that was Mary. She'd grown up quite poor by royal standards and I think she just always wanted whatever lovely things she came across.

Cassiope · 02/07/2025 09:35

It looks as if she is wearing some kind of extraordinary cone-shaped adornment/brooch between her breasts. Can that be right? One of the necklaces seems to be draped over the top and hanging slightly strangely as a result.

WorkingRoyalNotTwerkingRoyal · 02/07/2025 10:10

Do you mean the star? I think that's an optical illusion...it does look a bit conical, but it's actually an arm of the star creating that impression.
