Well style mavens, that last thread went quickly! Let's hope we get more royal fashion to analyse. I think we need some tiara action, though.

We're obviously a very predictable bunch when analysed.

Yes, I find it fascinating really.

@justasking111 one of the stores I used to buy for would specifically tailor some of their allocations (which shops get which stock) to certain markets. So everything would go to the flagship but we might skip Brighton & sound double or an extra colourway to Liverpool if we knew something would fly off the shelves there.

Our market research would involve night outs in different cities. Always felt incredibly underdressed up North 😆

I worked in fundraising up north we were smartly dressed. When London crowd arrived to stay in the area, honestly they looked scruffy to us, nomadic homeless. Which wasn't far from the truth the staff turnover was incredible. Always chasing the next job. Was very disconcerting when you had long lead ins to national events and the latest incarnation at head office moved the goal posts.

My daughter is Black, born and raised in Tottenham. She's always really beautifully turned out, even as a student, she looked good on a budget. All her friends made the effort, too and they'd spend hours on their hair.
Nowadays, she's earning well and telling me what not to buy!

Ah well. I've never bought from there. Your daughter sounds like my sons partner who did her degree in fashion and marketing. We've had many interesting conversations. For birthdays and Christmas I've sought out old books, Mary Quant, Biba, Coco Chanel all pre loved but she adored them.

I have a confession to make in this heatwave I've worn, washed and recycled three dresses. All empire line baggy cotton cover ups. It's that or cotton nighties.

I am of course still putting on the slap and styling my hair 🤣

Maireas · 13/07/2025 15:34

My daughter's degree was in Archaeology! She's just always been very into fashion. She's always had to take care of her hair, and gone to Afro stylists and uses it as a feature. All her friends were like that in North London. They'd spend hours going through magazines.

That's such a great idea about the preloved fashion books.

I like Catherine's dress today, not sure about William's jacket, did he nick it from Butlins?

I quite like it. It's reminiscent of Prince Philip.

Honestly it really is. Search eBay, world of books for fashion, design of all kinds it's a fascinating world. There really is nothing new @Maireas .

I found a Dior jewellery box last year.

My best find was lapis lazuli Dior cufflinks, Preloved from Japan of all places. My husband has had a pair for forty years that son had borrowed and loved. The Dior ones were absolutely beautiful though.

I don't like brass buttons, on anything, but that's my issues!

jaws33 · 13/07/2025 15:58

I like the colour of Kate's dress, it suits her. Is it same as the yellow bow dress? I suppose she has mixed it up with the v neck. The shoes could have been a lot jazzier.

onehorserace · 13/07/2025 15:58

I know what you mean @MrsLeonFarrell but think there's something quite retro with this look today which I like.

justasking111 · 13/07/2025 16:00

Catherine's outfit is dull, although I do like her hat. Wiliam, can't really tell. Charlotte I do like her dress.

That's so lovely. I'm quite the magpie, and I love vintage jewellery and accessories. I found a wonderful beaded clutch bag in a junk shop, from the 1930s.
I love the sound of those cufflinks! What a fantastic find!

I'm choosing my words very carefully! I did think the hat looked nice but would like to see it on. I'm undecided about Wills, not sure if I like or dislike.

How very dare she @Maireas! I love a bit of Hobbs!

Maireas · 13/07/2025 16:05

I think it's a different look for William, and it's nice to mix it up. The white trousers are a touch Albert of Monaco, but overall, quite summery and nice.

I still mourn the antique art deco silver style evening bag I spotted in a charity shop long ago and dithered over. When I went back it was gone. Could kick myself. Hanging on a wall it would have given me pleasure. The workmanship 🙈

No! Never dither! Dither ye not!
If in doubt, buy. You only really regret what you don't buy.

I'm partial to a man in full cricket kit. On the fence re white trousers.
