Well style mavens, that last thread went quickly! Let's hope we get more royal fashion to analyse. I think we need some tiara action, though.

Do what I do , “ what these? , ive had them for ages ! 🙄”
🤣

Haha, yes I've deployed this approach several times before with bags and coats. I'm not quite up to Kate's green coat level yet but any further purchases will need to be on a one-in-one-out basis as the door on my coat wardrobe won't close properly 😆

PurplebeadedFendi · 13/07/2025 12:46

Well I'm hoping I didn't make it up re the charity shop book! Elizabeth Meek's website bio says she was discouraged from pursing art despite excelling as a child, hence going into nursing. So satisfying to know she was able to pursue her calling eventually. As someone who was similarly discouraged from my arty inclinations into a proper degree and profession, and who regularly buys all manner of craft/art based literature from the charity shops, I'm hoping one of my purchases will unlock all my secret potential 😂

Needs must ! 🤣
depending on your dh , ive also deployed the “ you bought this for me ! , don’t you remember? “

although now I’m older and grumpier, I just give him the look and a raised eyebrow!

Does anyone know when will see the outfits on Wimbledon?
I don’t follow tennis so no idea when it starts.

They usually arrive at about this time - they did yesterday. The match isn't until 4pm though

Someone who’s looked gorgeous every single day is Annabel Croft.

I love Charlenes dress. Now, if Kate had worn that in the same red shade she wore for the recent state banquet I’d have been happy!

Were there a photos of Kate in sunglasses yesterday? She usually wear such fab sunglasses

( attempts to lighten tone of thread)

Charlene’s dress is amazing. I hope Kate sees it and it inspires her.

Choux · 13/07/2025 13:06

We don’t post much about what the Royal ladies in Thailand and Tonga are wearing. Perhaps we need to start checking them out!

Ooh thats for the link @PurplebeadedFendi and I was right - she does look great in those sunglasses.

The average London girl? Is there such a thing ?

I would say so, there are trends & style that you tend to notice in women particularly younger ones. It does differ around the country eg the trends in Liverpool may be different to London. However I have spent a long time working in fashion so probably just have a different perspective.

There's definitely a Leeds girl son went to university there six years ago and has stayed. I've met a few of his partners friends they definitely are a type. Ditto Newcastle girls.and Liverpool. Youth conformity makes me smile

Her sunglasses were Ralph Lauren. Her handbag (which I covet) was Anya Hindmarch.

Edited

OH god I loved that handbag

Charlene looks lovely in that blue dress.
She really gets it wrong in terms of what suits her, even if I/we don’t like it.

DP once dared to utter the words “do you need another pair of trainers?”

It’s lucky he’s still DP 😂

There’s a whole thread about the Leeds look. I have lived in Leeds all my life and cant say I have ever noticed it 😀

I particularly noticed it on graduation day. The weather was glorious, when the black gowns came off it was a riot of colour and fabrics. The shoes were particularly magnificent in their height and strappiness. The nails, hair, makeup.
It was a definite look.

I should add the heels were no problem the speed at which ubers arrived as son and partner whisked us around the city to various locations made me green with envy.

My son had sixteen pairs and insisted on keeping the boxes. His bedroom was like a shoe shop 🤣

@justasking111 one of the stores I used to buy for would specifically tailor some of their allocations (which shops get which stock) to certain markets. So everything would go to the flagship but we might skip Brighton & sound double or an extra colourway to Liverpool if we knew something would fly off the shelves there.

Our market research would involve night outs in different cities. Always felt incredibly underdressed up North 😆

I think these things are often more noticeable to outsiders. You notice something that is different to wherever you are from and then confirmation bias means you reallllly notice it and skip the dozens of people that don't conform to it while clocking every single person that does.

We call the tendency for people in a certain area having the same look the 'Cool for Cats effect' after the Squeeze lyric:
In and out of Wandsworth with the numbers on their names
It's funny how their missus always looks the bleeding same
And meanwhile at the station there's a couple of likely lads
Who swear like, "How's your father?" and they're very cool for cats

Friend was a buyer for M&S many moons ago and said the same. Friends daughter is a buyer distributor for New look. Same experience. Another friends daughter is responsible for Primark stock. They select carefully for the stores and areas.

It doesn't stop with fashion. A friends daughter in charge of some high end makeup brands travelling the UK says make-up choices are regional too.

We're obviously a very predictable bunch when analysed.
