Well style mavens, that last thread went quickly! Let's hope we get more royal fashion to analyse. I think we need some tiara action, though.

I was wondering what others thought of Victoria Starmer’s dress. For me the dress itself would be lovely (possibly my favourite print of the summer so far) were it not for the sleeves (sigh), but I found myself questioning whether it was sufficiently professional for the occasion (it was the middle of the working day)… but then you get into questions about what her role actually is…

Maireas · 10/07/2025 07:18

I thought it was appropriate. It was a summer dress, but not flimsy.

The press never shows Birgitte's jewellery properly. It's only on instagram that you can see good, close up photographs that allow you to really appreciate it.

She wore beautiful pink gems to the Lord Mayor's banquet last night.

At least Birgitte has brought out a piece not seen since 1999 in Queen Mary’s Fringe. Is that a more modern turquoise bracelet that she is wearing, I wonder?

WorkingRoyalNotTwerkingRoyal · 10/07/2025 08:25

Yes @smilesy I was excited to see something new! I doubt it, since she has an extensive collection at her disposal. But I suppose it's quite possible.

@Cassiope are you talking about the floral dress Victoria wore to the lunch at no.10? If so I liked it and thought it was perfectly appropriate for an intimate lunch at home. I like the sleeves but I like flouncy clothing.

WorkingRoyalNotTwerkingRoyal · 10/07/2025 08:58

Thinking about it there's absolutely no reason why the bracelet couldn't be newer...I realised what nonsense I was talking! If I were a Duchess with heaps of inherited jewels to choose from, I'd still likely want to buy more here and there.

I just thought the style looked more modern, although it could just as easily be from the 1920’s or 30’s 🤷‍♀️

WorkingRoyalNotTwerkingRoyal · 10/07/2025 09:08

Yes you're right, and either way I love any and all jewellery that Birgitte wears.

Throwback photo...Constantine and Anne-Marie in Rome, 1968, shortly after going into exile. I always like photos of Anne-Marie in her younger years, the fashions suited her so well.

WorkingRoyalNotTwerkingRoyal · 10/07/2025 09:09

Don't know what went wrong there...

Queen Mary's 11 row choker 💖

I have just been looking on antique jewelry sites for tiaras. I now know that I will have a fantastic shopping spree should I ever win the EuroMillions.

I wonder what you experts would buy. Or would you commission a new peice?

Queen Mary's 11 row choker 💖

Not sure about that. It looks a bit uncomfortable. I realise we might need to suffer a bit for our jewels but there are limits 😆

RomainingCalm · 10/07/2025 10:43

That certainly is a choker @justasking111 - not sure it works so well on those of us with necks that really only have space for 6 or 7 rows of pearls! 😂

I was going to say that I liked Lady Starmer's summer dress yesterday. It reminded me of the sort of thing Samantha Cameron used to wear to these events and I loved the majority of her choices.

WorkingRoyalNotTwerkingRoyal · 10/07/2025 10:46

Deep sigh of satisfaction. Ahh I love that choker. I used to have the kind of swanlike neck that could wear those. Not so much anymore! 😔 😔

I'd do a bit of both! 😁😁

She has so many jewels on she even has diamonds on her back! That’s commitment to bling!!!

For those of you on X this account often has good photos. Here’s some close ups of DoG’s jewellery from last night.

And a close up of the flowers - far fewer than at Windsor but the room at the Guildhall is divine. I have attended a black tie dinner there myself once which was a wonderful experience.

I really liked Anne's hair. A bit of a change and very flattering with the Festoon tiara.

justasking111 · 10/07/2025 12:48

I presume the Gloucesters jewellery will pass down to the Earl of Ulster and his wife I can't see her having much use for them.

I do wonder who's swanning around in Princess Margaret's pieces that were auctioned off.

justasking111 · 10/07/2025 12:50

The dress Lady Starmer is wearing I've seen in the media on another lady. It's bugging me coz it's not been named. I think I saw it during Chelsea flower show

I think it was totally fine. The Queen wore a wild animal print summer dress to her engagement with the Macrons in the morning.

If anything I would say Brigitte Macron was the outlier wearing a formal suit to a summer daytime event to eat lunch with the Starmers.

Going back to the state dinner, Ruby jewels would have looked fabulous on Kate with that dress.

I loved the colour of the dress but not the Cape and the high neckline together - she looked a bit swamped in fabric.
A lower neckline would allow for some beautiful rubies she has - see pics of matching necklace and earings. She has a Ruby ring to match as well somewhere. And Ruby tiara to finish would have been perfect!

IIRC it was rumoured that at least part of that set was a present from Harry, I forget why, maybe wedding? If that is true I can see why she wanted to avoid easy tabloid headlines.

I suspect that she is playing the long game over gown rotation; build up a stack now and then wear them in private until they are wheeled out in a decade for another State Dinner.

I think it’s Karen Millen. I saw someone wearing it at BP garden party.
