Well style mavens, that last thread went quickly! Let's hope we get more royal fashion to analyse. I think we need some tiara action, though.

Well Kate certainly managed to divide opinion today! I liked the contrast of textures, but that colour - oh dear! - it reminds me of ‘nude’ tights. Can't imagine a worse choice. Head to toe, too - except that she wasn't quite, and the cream-coloured shoes manage to look really out of place. Not a fan of the incredibly shallow crown to her hat, but she obviously is, as I seem to remember something similar quite recently.

On the hair controversy, I prefer her hair when the waves are less shampoo-ad perfect, but I'm definitely in favour of people choosing the hairstyle that suits them and makes them feel comfortable in their own skin. Camilla’s wings are a good example - hardly high fashion, but very her and great ballast for tiaras and big hats.

I thought Mme Macron chose well today, both the smart, tailored dress and the hairdo. Just a shame about the panda eyes. Each to her own, but that is a choice I find hard to understand.

Delighted to see Camilla in bright green again - such a vibrant colour (wearing it myself today, but my version is a casual t-shirt, souvenir from a 10km race several years ago!). If I were being ultra-critical I'd say that she got the lipstick shade wrong though: too dark and too much blue in it.

Here’s the banquet table all set up. Where are they?

apparently Raymond Blanc is doing some of the food.

Exactly. As soon as I saw the cut of the jacket with the pockets which stand slightly away from the body I thought ‘Mary wore that in Paris’. It was three months ago at a state visit to France / the Macrons. It’s also very similar to the Self Portrait outfit.

Of the two Dior outfits I prefer Kate’s as her skirt hangs well and is more classic New Look. Mary had the better idea to have a skirt in the same fabric but the A-line shape collapses a bit. She also gives off a mature bride look as it is all cream. But Mary wearing it first at an event with the same people means Kate seems a bit unoriginal. I wonder if she ordered it before or after Mary appeared in it?

Edited

Looking at it again, I agree Catherine's skirt is much better. Interesting that I remembered the outfit as a whole looking better. Probably because of the bag and shoes.

I'm surprised Catherine's chosen to wear it so soon, and to meet the same people.

Table close ups

Would love a close up of the floral decorations - I'm much more of a plant nerd than a clothes nerd. Hoping they're seasonal and British grown.

Lisa Armstrong the stylish Telegraph fashion editor wore that jacket and skirt in a fabulous deep pink to her son’s wedding, and looked amazing. Sorry the photo is the best I could find.

I am guessing that is Jenny Packham?

Maireas · 08/07/2025 20:40

The Cambridge Lovers Knot.

I’m disappointed.. again!

DisforDarkChocolate · 08/07/2025 20:44

Well I think Catherine looks lovely. Not my favourite tiara but she must love it (and it must be comfortable).

Sidebeforeself · 08/07/2025 20:45

They look like a King and Queen though and very happy

Maireas · 08/07/2025 20:46

The full skirt hangs beautifully and I love the diaphanous caped sleeves. I would have preferred a slightly lower and/or wider neckline, though.

Well I predicted Red, white and blue between them. I predicted Kate in blue not red and Brigitte in red not blue.

That bluer shade of red is really good on Kate, much better than the tomato red that she often wears. The gown drapes beautifully. It also looks very Queen Rania!

But quelle horreur! Madam Macron is wearing a caped gown too!

smilesy · 08/07/2025 20:47

Catherine looks very much like a princess and that is a lovely smile 😀

NewAgeNewMe · 08/07/2025 20:48

I’m loving the caped gown looks. William and Kate look super.

DisforDarkChocolate · 08/07/2025 20:48

Camilla is very disappointing, very dull. Not enough bling at all.

I think them both wearing caped gowns is fine.

Which tiara is Camilla wearing?

I suspect Kate has a scar from a port. She never exposes much of her neck/clavicle area these days.

Maireas · 08/07/2025 20:49

Tricolor!
Cams in classic white with the sapphires, very elegant. Brigitte Macron's dress is a beautiful strong blue and I love the silhouette - more caped sleeves! I don't like the detail on the shoulders, though.

It’s apparently Sarah Burton for Givenchy.

I’m not sure about the tiara with that hairstyle though, for some reason it looks very perched on top of her head.

Yes, I love the caped gowns.

It does seem to sit quite high.
