I hoped this day would never come…I think the midi dress is actually over

I know it’s been known for quite a some time that the midi / midaxi dress has past it’s style peak. But until now I’ve still felt very comfortable with my wardrobe full of long dresses (so easy to wear!).

But yesterday, wearing a long shirt dress which felt totally chic a couple of years ago, it felt a bit dated, a bit bland, a bit boring. I felt everyone who looked cool was wearing something different and the (many) midi dresses being worn all looked a bit sad.

I am devastated. I’ve been a fully signed up member of Team Midi Dress and I’m not ready to give them up!

I still see floral midi dresses worn where I live in a "trendy" suburb in the north west, but it's older women, 30+ thereabouts wearing them. The younger ones wear separates.
Wear I work which is fashion related, hardly any dresses are worn, although there are various trends and unique styles, so there's quite a variety of outfits. When dresses are worn they tend to be the flouncy frilly short variety worn by the 18-25 age group.
I wear a lot of linen trousers (Uniqlo) when it's slightly cooler or tailored shorts when it's warm enough with tank/shell top or tucked in t-shirts. I look ridiculous in midi dresses anyway as I'm short, so they were never an option. I think midi dresses look lovely and elegant when they are the non-floral variety, and I would love to be able to pull them off.

Okay, now I want a demon skirt and I am starting the trend right here, right now!

I genuinely Googled 'demon skirt' thinking it was a new trend that had passed me by.

Ooos sorry everyone. Genuinely didn’t notice my spelling (autocorrect) spelling mistake.

Never apologise, @Steelworks. I’m running with the demon skirt trend, and no-one is stopping me. 😁

I should've put this on my pedantic thread but, since we're here ...

My bet is socks. Trainer socks are out of fashion but crew socks are tricky to pull off with a dress. Wide leg trousers are easy with socks and trainers. It's too hot for tights.

This is one of those areas where me and fashion part company. I get cold feet and prefer shoes I can walk lots in so spend most of my summer in sports socks and baseball boots.....regardless of the outfit!

I think midi dresses can still be very fashionable though. But florals can be very dated, depending on the pattern. I find it's the mid sized florals that sometimes look older. Big, colourful, abstract florals can look good. Also tiny ditsy prints are nice for a more subdued look (just my opinion though. TBH I'm a sucker for a retro floral print, something 70s and garish!).
