Is more expensive make up worth it?

I've always been a Rimmel/Maybelline etc, maybe No 7 if I'm feeling flush. Beauty Pie keep advertising on Facebook for me.

Is it worth it? I'm looking at some eyeshadow sticks which are £12 each which is a jump for me!

Imo, Foundation - more expensive ranges have better formulas and colour ranges.
Powder eyeshadow - more likely to get better pigmented formula.
Everything else no, mascara, lip products etc cheap versions just as good. I am a sucker for pretty packaging though so sometimes a pricey brand will get my money for this alone.

Chanel foundation - heavenly

Tom Ford eyeshadow - painfully expensive and terrible. So brand dependent

Well I read this thread on the way to work y'day .. on the way home I stopped in SpaceNK and somehow came out with a Lucy Eldridge foundation and a Charlotte Tilbury setting spray ... the power of Mumsnet!

Foundation, eyeliner, blush, mascara, , concealer - I’d go cheap

lipstick, powder I’d go high end

so Overall no it’s not worth it

Oh no, I certainly would go high end for foundation.

For me it’s
High end - Foundation, blush, bronzer, lipstick, eyeliner (but only because I’m obsessed with VB one)

Low end - Mascara, lip liner, primer

Concealers I think there are some good inexpensive ones e.g. Toofaced

Clinique foundation for me - matches perfectly and tones red blotchy skin right down without looking fake.

MintChocCat · 04/07/2025 21:19

I would say that my top expensive brands for make up are Victoria Beckham, Hourglass, YSL, Dior, Chanel, Fenty Beauty and Nars.

MintChocCat · 04/07/2025 21:19

Oh, and Armani for their luminous silk foundation.

I don't think there's much in it tbh. My two current favourite lipsticks are one from Lancome (£32?) and one from Superdrug's own brand (£2.80?). They both look good .... and the two mascaras I like at the moment are Clinique lash power (£24?) and e.l.f xtender (£9?). Also both good.

You just have to try everything and see what does it for you.

I've tried expensive brands and cheap ones. I find cheap brands like Rimmel and Maybelline are better than high end ones for almost everything but you definitely get what you pay for with lipstick.
