So it's just me who absolutely hates Catherine's outfit today. I hate the colour, the style, the fabric. I'm also so bored with that style of hat.

Maybe. It doesn't matter, we often disagree on here about points of style!

The dress hangs beautifully on Catherine, I do think it would look far nicer without that single white lapel.

Those kids are tall.

It’s a coat, though, isn’t it? Rather than those coat dresses she used to wear all the time. There’s a visible skirt or dress beneath it in a different fabric. Which I thought was slightly odd on a hot day.

Yes, the turned back lapel is horrid.

Kate's outfit is I'm sorry awful.

I agree, she’s such a dull dresser. She never seems to have an original idea. Everything is a tribute or a nod to something Diana wore.

Yes, she’s extremely good at smiling and sitting nicely.

eggandonion · 14/06/2025 13:36

I thought it would be a good look on an upmarket nanny looking after kids at a society wedding.
And Sophie is dressed in a Christmassy colour .
Charlotte's hair is nice and tidy!

FinancialWhines · 14/06/2025 13:39

The Princess of Wales's outfit is giving me Britney Toxic vibes.

I will not hear a word against it now.

Yes! Maybe it’s a tribute. 😂

I don't think what she wears is ever a tribute to Diana. Perhaps that's more in the imagination of certain journalists. Most recently she's worn a navy trouser suit and a chartreuse one from Victoria Beckham. So she does mix it up.
I'm glad she can smile and sit nicely. I think it would be a problem if she couldn't!

Last year it turned very cold and wet. I think Catherine was wearing a dress and coat today so she wouldn't get cold on the dais. Last year she was watching at the Balcony /window with the children, so a dress was ok. This year she probably played a bit safe I expect a breeze on that parade ground can get a bit much after an hour. All the troops and royal men on parade were wearing thick layers, a wispy dress would not be enough.

I was going more with the outfit Julia Roberts was wearing with her shopping bags in her ‘Big mistake. Huge’ scene in Pretty Woman, but now you’ve said it, I will never unsee it.😀

George has two of those really annoying cowlick, I have one and I can only wear my parting in one place as a result, it's so irritating.

I felt a bit sorry for George. He looked quite self conscious today. When his father was his age he didn't have to attend Trooping the Colour because he was away at boarding school and didn't get leave for the weekend. (I have definitely seen a picture with Harry aged about 6 in a carriage with Diana, but no William who would have been at Ludgrove school by then).

DisforDarkChocolate · 14/06/2025 13:56

I hate this supposed tribute wearing some papers press. I don't think Catherine has ever done this and I bet she hates seeing it in the press (if she does).

I don't think she is a dull dresser, I think she decided a while ago to play safe and who can blame her with all the crap there is in the papers about her clothes? Who here remembers the vitriol Diana faced when she wore her hair up for the State opening of parliament?

It's a coat dress, someone linked to it above.

MrsLeonFarrell · 14/06/2025 14:02

I like Catherine's outfit. She is always suitable for the occasion and it is nice to see a bright colour, much easier for the crowds to spot her. I also liked that Charlotte was toning with her and the boys with William.

Maireas · 14/06/2025 14:12

@DisforDarkChocolate good points, it's a tricky line to walk in her position, isn't it?

Agreed and Tbf, Camilla and the Late Queen also settled on a “uniform” for their more formal appearances. It seems a sensible approach. Less about the outfits then, I suppose. Just because Catherine is younger, I don’t think she feels the need to be adventurous with her fashion when she is performing an official function. Smart and elegant seems to be the order of the day

Absolutely.

I can't be the only person who remembers all the press articles when Catherine first started doing engagements and wore shorter skirts which sometimes caught the wind. Finding a uniform is definitely the best approach for longevity and I bet we see outfits coming out again for decades.

But she was wearing something else under it — you can see it in the photograph someone posted above. A skirt or dress in a slightly different coloured satiny fabric.

Could've been a slip.
