Absolutely.

I can't be the only person who remembers all the press articles when Catherine first started doing engagements and wore shorter skirts which sometimes caught the wind. Finding a uniform is definitely the best approach for longevity and I bet we see outfits coming out again for decades.

Yes, she had a few wardrobe malfunctions, didn't she?

The dress hangs beautifully on Catherine, I do think it would look far nicer without that single white lapel.

Those kids are tall.

That dress is a bit too 1980's for me, would have liked to see a more modern style on her.

I felt a bit sorry for George. He looked quite self conscious today. When his father was his age he didn't have to attend Trooping the Colour because he was away at boarding school and didn't get leave for the weekend. (I have definitely seen a picture with Harry aged about 6 in a carriage with Diana, but no William who would have been at Ludgrove school by then).

I do think on balance it's quite likely that George is quite happy to ride in the carriage as opposed to being away at boarding school, tbf. The Prince and Princess of Wales are right to ease him gently into his role this way from quite early on IMO and I think they have the right balance, from what we can see, for making allowances and giving him as normal a personal family life as possible but at the same time preparing him for his life's work. Yes he does seem more thoughtful and possibly more sensitive than Charlotte who would quite likely easily lean into it, but there is plenty of room for different character traits.

I think he actually looks a bit more comfortable these days than he used to, probably because he's a bit older now. I also like that he has a voice, for instance he said he didn't want to wear whatever the traditional costume was for the Coronation and that was accommodated.

justasking111 · 14/06/2025 14:29

I thought that they all looked lovely today. The children are growing up too fast as they are wont to do. I feel that way about my grandchildren who are still happy for a hug but so
Tall these days.

GetDressedYouMerryGentlemen · 14/06/2025 14:32

I not sure there is anything she can do to avoid the 'nod to Diana' press. Both of them have worn every colour under the sun and most shapes/styles at some point. Half the things that are deemed a 'nod' by the tabloids bare no more resemblance to the original outfit other than vague colour.

I'm sure there are pictures of Diana in a red evening dress, a blue beaded evening dress, floral day dresses, striped day dress, a polka dots skirt and jeans with a plain white t-shirt. I have all of the above in my wardrobe and I can assure you none of them are there as a 'tribute' to Diana they are just clothes.

Yes and got a lot of criticism in the press. No wonder she decided to wear nice safe outfits.

Maireas · 14/06/2025 14:33

Very true, @GetDressedYouMerryGentlemen ! Someone on one of our previous threads did a montage to show how silly those claims were, and the outfits were very different.

There are only so many materials and styles. Fashion repeats itself constantly so of course 2 women years apart will wear similar outfits. It's such a non issue.

Yep short of a hot pink PVC cat suit with revealing cut outs there isn't much available that doesn't share some features with something Diana wore at some point.

I don't think her thought process has even been should I buy another green coat or a hot pink cat suit?

Decisions, decisions. Didn't we at one point decide she had enough green coats to share among our happy band, and we'd all wear them at the same time?

Sadly I wouldn't fit an arm into the body of her coat, let alone a sleeve so I would have to pass.

I agree that the Prince and Princess of Wales are steering a good balance of public /private life for their children. Getting them to wear traditional smart clothes for public occasions must help them to realise this is when they are on public show. Re the Coronation attire, George apparently told his grandfather that the other kids at school would be really unkind if he had to wear the traditional breeches and silk stockings. The straight black trouser substitute still looked very formal but was much more acceptable to all 9 to 13 year old boys who were the Pages of Honour.

I look a bugger in green 🤣

Is George going to boarding school. His parents seem in no hurry. I wonder if he'll have the option of being a weekly boarder.

For you, and in the spirit of the thread, a coat in the colour of your choice!

As previously mentioned I'd need at least three cut up and resown into a single coat!

He has one more year to go at Lambrook school then he will move to whatever senior school his parents have decided on. I don't think Catherine and her siblings were boarding before the age of 13 or James Earl of Wessex. or Peter Philips daughter. Within the Royal family boarding at prep school age doesn't seem the norm now.

thatone · 14/06/2025 15:16

I also found the Princess of Wales outfit quite dull in shape. The colour was ok but the style just seemed so rigid. She needed something to soften it.

Foolsgold74 · 14/06/2025 15:18

DisforDarkChocolate · 14/06/2025 13:28

So it's just me who absolutely hates Catherine's outfit today. I hate the colour, the style, the fabric. I'm also so bored with that style of hat.

Not just you, no.

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 14/06/2025 15:42

I did think “very 80s- very Diana” when I saw that outfit on Catherine. I get there’s limits to her options, but if she wanted to avoid the “nod to Diana” comments, she needs to avoid anything very 80s in style.
