A basic question I have always wondered. When you see someone in a dress with a hat in the exact same shade, how was this achieved? Do you buy the dress then show it to the milliner? Can the milliner access the same fabric? Or is it just good matching?

The milliners will have great experience at matching colours.

I bet it's also much easier as well if you're a known royal milliner calling McQueen/Emilia Wickstead to ask for dye help to finish the outfit for a royal to wear to an event.

They'll all happily work together as it helps their brands

This post and earlier posts is all about the jewels at Ascot but there are some lovely photos of the clothes too:

arf at the comment about the teeth. Parts of that wedding dress are lovely but there was too much going on what with the gorgeous tiara, the ruff, the puffed sleeves, the embroidery on the top bodice and the veil. Still they looked very happy, and the groom’s mother looked very chic.

An Heirloom Diamond Brooch Surprise for Queen Camilla at Royal Ascot

Queen Camilla ended Royal Ascot with a smashing royal jewelry surprise on Saturday, wearing a dazzling diamond brooch that has been hidden in the royal vaults for almost a century. King Charles III and Queen

I remember my mother and grandmother having shoes dyed.

Ooh. Nice to see a different piece of jewellery. Might have known it came from Queen Mary 😆

I remember my mother and grandmother having shoes dyed.

I had shoes dyed for my school leavers ball ('87) but couldn't find anyone to do it for my brother's wedding (2010). Must not be a thing anymore.

gingercat02 · 22/06/2025 15:52

Love that the brooch is a fob watch too. Probably gave QM more wrist space for bracelets 💎

RomainingCalm · 22/06/2025 16:21

I’m sorry, I can’t tie it into fashion unless anyone has a comment on checked shirts and wellies but this made me smile.

Princess Anne found a couple of farmers fast asleep as she visited the Royal Highland Show on Friday. Busy week after all that Ascot action!

🤣 We are showing sheep this week but I didn’t go on Friday. Anne is the perfect royal for the show. Animals and horses galore. I’m sure she’s happiest in farmers gear.

WorkingRoyalNotTwerkingRoyal · 22/06/2025 17:47

That's a great photo!

Mary and Fred visited an exhibition this week and Mary wore the same dress (in a different fabric) as Carole Middleton wore to the races.

I wasn’t particularly keen on Carole Middleton’s cream lace dress at Ascot but I think I like the pink version on Mary even less.

The only place I've been able to find it recently is Rainbow Club. I've had shoes and a bag dyed by them (bought from them) twice in the last decade when I've been a bridesmaid

This is very funny, especially as it looks as if the man in the dark suit next to Princess Anne is gesturing towards the sleeping farmers as if they are an exhibit at the show!

MotherofPearl · 22/06/2025 19:09

I’m really not at all keen on that dress on Mary (or the other version on Carole). Mary nearly always gets it right but I’d go as far as saying that dress is hideous. I really dislike keyhole type necklines, and coloured lace is always awful and looks cheap.

KiIIingMeDeftly · 22/06/2025 19:16

The yellow looked dreadful on Carole, who usually looks pretty good, and the pink is a rare miss for Mary.

Maireas · 22/06/2025 19:23

Mmm, Stephanie, a bit too much. MT, turquoise, off one shoulder and a Fraggle trim? Low key for her.

Wow, just far too much fabric with Stephanie’s outfit. GDMT’s outfit is the kind of thing I can see Max going for, tbh.

Somehow, Max would get away with it

Isn’t that Eugenie with Fergie today?
i saw this on Twitter, it appears Fergie is taking a leaf out of her ex-sil’s book of vintage re-wears, very successfully I think, definitely an improvement on her outfit from earlier in the week.
i think yesterday was the best day overall, Zara in black and white just edging it.

As soon as I saw that photo I thought how dated it looked. Awful - reminds me of the Fergie days.

slinkiemalinkiey · 22/06/2025 19:51

Papergirl1968 · 20/06/2025 19:37

Kudos to Zara for not falling over.
Fergie was there today.
The back of Beatrice’s dress…

Lovely dress on Eugenie and love the shoes!

Cassiope · 22/06/2025 20:02

Apart from the weird off-centre neckline, which just looks as if the top has slipped and needs rearranging I confess I rather like that turquoise outfit, for a celebration - which a jubilee surely is. It makes me smile, and the Grand Duchess is smiling and looks as if she's having fun with those mad, gloriously frivolous cheerleader sleeves - who wouldn't enjoy waving all that wonderful fluffy stuff around?

Stephanie looks like she is wrapped in a chintz curtain. MT’s outfit is fun and I love the colour, but it is verging on the pyjama like

HonoriaBulstrode · 22/06/2025 21:52

Yes, I think the top could have been a bit longer and more of a tailored tunic.

Papergirl1968 · 22/06/2025 23:01

Zara looking good at the Royal Windsor Cup Final (polo, I believe).
The stripes look black in the photo but are apparently navy.
