I wonder why the King chose a black top hat today?

Probably to match the Queen!

Maireas · 21/06/2025 20:22

KC and Camilla look nice. I don't think Eugenie suits that orangey red and the cut is not flattering on her.

I don't like that wedding dress nor the bridesmaid dresses - and the groom doesn't look great either tbh.

But who cares because ... that tiara!!!!

Maireas · 21/06/2025 20:40

I don't like the colour violet, but I can see why she chose that colour for her bridesmaids.I think they're silk, but it's a very unforgiving fabric when cut like that. The bridesmaid in the sari looked better. I think the groom's mother in the strong purple looked good. Lady Flora Vesterberg in attendance, as was Lady Tatiana Mountbatten.

Somehow I missed the bride’s Rutland tiara. I had to go back for another look.

GetDressedYouMerryGentlemen · 21/06/2025 20:53

Way too much going on on the wedding dress for my taste - it needs about 5 elements fewer for me.

SqueakyDinosaur · 21/06/2025 21:05

The dress is awful at the top. I loathe short tight sleeves and high necks on a wedding dress- if you want something cut like a t-shirt wear a bloody t-shirt! It's the same thing I didn't like about Pippa Middleton's dress.

Maireas · 21/06/2025 21:09

Yes, I agree. The dress has a bit too much going on, although the slimline fit is a redeeming feature.

I agree.
I love Camilla’s outfit.

https://royalwatcherblog.com/2025/06/21/wedding-of-viscount-garnock-and-lady-violet-manners/
Lady Violet Manners married Viscount Garnock today, wearing the fabulous family tiara. A very elegant dress by Philippa Lepley, although I think the star patterned panel was a bit fussy. Lord Garnock in the family tartan and Belvoir Castle as the stunning location. I think some Mountbattens may have been there.

Amazing historical pictures in that article! And fascinating family connections.

Yes, I didn't realise that Lady Diana Cooper was a relative.

I agree makes her look hippy.

Do you think they both had new teeth for their wedding?

Cassiope · 21/06/2025 22:10

I like the Queen's skirt and top outfit - creates the illusion of a waist much better than her default dress shape and the fullness of the skirt is just right.

As for the wedding pics, the less said about that ruff the better [shudders briefly].

I loved seeing the historical photos of the tiara - thanks @Maireas . I think I like it best worn like a hairband, as Lady Diana Cooper does - especially over her helmet hairdo. That's a look I'd enjoy seeing revived.

I scrolled back to look at Camilla again. You're absolutely right that style really does suit her better.

Zara has become mega stylish . She never used to be . I love what she wears. Always something but different. She’s really a stunning woman.

The dress hangs beautifully and I love the pattern. I still think it’s just a smidge too long though. Great hat

I think her hemlines are nearly always too long.

Eaumyword · 21/06/2025 22:42

Not keen on the bride's dress, although she has a beautiful figure and it looks like it has been cut to fit beautifully.
Really, really not keen on Eug's dress - fit, style or colour.
Bright orange is a difficult colour to pull off and look expensive and unless you're Max (in which case, crack on!) is perhaps best avoided.

A basic question I have always wondered. When you see someone in a dress with a hat in the exact same shade, how was this achieved? Do you buy the dress then show it to the milliner? Can the milliner access the same fabric? Or is it just good matching?

Maireas · 22/06/2025 07:28

That's a good question, @StartupRepair . I think milliners have really good dyes and are adept at matching hats to outfits.

I adore Lady Diana Cooper! My mother had a brief flirtation with John Julius Norwich-one of my very indirect and very minor claims to fame….

I think they have very good dyes. Like when you get shoes dyes to match an outfit perfectly…

Cassiope · 22/06/2025 07:55

Possibly you can get at least part way there via ID codes for dyes (as per paints for cars).

An interesting potential complication is that some dyes will behave differently on different substrates. I bet that's infuriated a few people down the years!

gingercat02 · 22/06/2025 09:49

There isn't much good to say about that wedding fashion wise, even the groom manges to make a kilt look bad, I thought that was impossible! The tiara however is rather special.

My.aunt saw a hat she loved for my cousins wedding but it was the wrong colours so she took her outfit in and the milliner made the same hat in the right shades
