What item of clothing do you think is pointless and well, a bit strange?

For me it's the short sleaved coat. Don't see the point at all, not a body warmer and not a proper coat, you'd have to put leg warmers for arms on with it (if such a thing exists).

pashmina scarfy type things worn with a suit/smart clothes

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 20/05/2008 10:04

Teeny tiny clutch bags that could barely fit a cash card in them, and you have to hold the damn thing. So pointless.

Playsuits (urgh)

Mercy · 20/05/2008 10:06

Turned up collars and jacket sleeves pushed up (80s style)

Dungarees (on anyone over the age of 6)... Why ???!

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 20/05/2008 10:08

I was back within a couple of hours. Very shameful. I did post a 'feel my shame' thread.

MrsBadger · 20/05/2008 10:08

agree teeny tiny bags need a strap, because the only time you use them is for eg black tie things where you have no pockets, and without a strap mean you cannot carry a bottle of champagne and four glasses

Empire lines are not always bad [adjusts comedy Jane Austen bosom]

peacelily · 20/05/2008 10:08

Who wears dungarees now!? (Apart from 20m old dd at this very moment)

I know Grazia is trying to promote the playsuit but personally I feel they are a forbidden item unless starring in a remake of boogie nights

Blame FAQ! I was on the phone to her and she read out some bitchy posts about me so I had to come and bitch back.

OrmIrian · 20/05/2008 10:11

Jeans on young men that have a crotch somewhere near their knees. I know that's a method of wearing them rather than the garment per se but I don't care. Why is it cool to walk like a penguin who has sh*t itself? I know all about wanting to shock the older generation but surely the required effect is shock and outrage not falling about laughing?

I like gilets. I find them useful.

Most useless garment I personally own is a running top DH gave me. It's got short sleeves, very fitted round the waist but made of super thick thermal type cloth - in winter you can just about wear it but with nothing on top and it means you have freezing arms. In summer it's like running in a sauna. Just pointless.

Cappuccino · 20/05/2008 10:13

oh MrsB you do conjure up a beautiful image of yourself over time

I see you dressed in period costume, yet strangely stylish and 'now', constantly carrying around champagne, glasses, and a wonderfully stylish leather briefcase packed with every catalogue under the sun

Cappuccino · 20/05/2008 10:14

yes OrmIrian I found myself looking at a bloke's buttocks in white underpants the other day, in the middle of the day

it was alarming

Cappuccino · 20/05/2008 10:16

apologies for overuse of word 'stylish'

RosaLuxembourg · 20/05/2008 10:17

Ties. I mean, WHY?

tinylady · 20/05/2008 10:22

I hate jeans though. Everyone wears them, so I refuse too

milkandhoney · 20/05/2008 10:23

Footless tights.

ranting · 20/05/2008 10:27

Those aladdin type trousers that are apparently making a comeback, why would you want to wear something that makes your arse and thighs look like you could inflate them. Beyond me.

RosaLuxembourg · 20/05/2008 10:31

I had a stunning pair of those in the Eighties, Ranting. I must have looked like a complete chump.

ranting · 20/05/2008 10:32

Did you got absailing in them?

wessexgirl · 20/05/2008 10:32

Gawd, I had a pair too. Why, why, why??? Hammer Time!

Kewcumber · 20/05/2008 10:33

g-strings
