Is this nice, or tacky?

I can’t decide. I sort of love it, but also think it looks like something a toddler would wear. I’m 45.

I think you must know different toddlers to me!

I love it and I have something quite similar. I'm 40.
However I'm a Joe Browns fan and dress a bit 80s/ 90s.

MaddestGranny · 18/05/2025 17:54

It's lovely! I don't think being in your 40's is the factor. It's about size and shape. You'll need to be on the slim side to look really cool in it. So, if you're size 14 or plus size, I'd give it a miss. But if you're short & size 8 - 10, or tall & size 12, you'll look great. My DD, 43, tall, v slim, wears a faux-leather bomber jacket all the time. She looks dangerously cool. I'm nearly 6', but really old & size 18, so I can only look on with admiration.

You should wear what you like. As long as you feel comfortable, who cares what people think, fashion police? I think it's nice, go for it, no ones business but yours ...

Blades2 · 18/05/2025 18:35

I like it, but, anything I’ve had from this brand. Is very very poorly made

Poorandbrilliant · 18/05/2025 19:40

I had one in 1973 with an embroidered parrot on the back
Cost 1about £2🏃

WalmartWitney · 18/05/2025 20:33

I like the jacket, but not the price and I'm a mature lady.

Cherrytree86 · 18/05/2025 21:16

I think it’s awful OP

Clairegreenhen · 18/05/2025 22:44

Personally I like it, its quirky and adds something different, everyone looks so boring and the same at the moment! If I see one more person in a pair of m and s linen trousers, plain tshirt and Birkenstocks ill scream! To be looking unique is way more fashionable than wearing everything on trend! Go for it OP

reminds me of 'All Saints' from the 1990s. add flared low rise combats. If it was £20 i'd say yes but on this price it's a hard no.
(but look on vinted in case it's £20 there_)
xxx

Mummadeze · 19/05/2025 07:02

I really like it. It won’t go with that many outfits but will look great with the right complementary trousers or skirts

FlatErica · 19/05/2025 07:08

Tacky, sorry. It looks like what it is: a cheap mass-produced version of something that would originally have been a bit sloppy and handmade (a 1960s/70s embellished hippy jacket).

I love it but my best friend (lovingly) describes my dress sense as “out there”

i like it too. One of my friends once described an outfit I picked out whilst shopping as 'it's very you...' 😂

ThisPithyJoker · 19/05/2025 12:34

I love it!

That was probably the equivalent of a week's wage in those days.

Trishyb10 · 19/05/2025 14:08

Nice, stands out from the crowd

LarsPorsenaofClusium · 19/05/2025 21:30

I'm 78 and think I might order it.

TwinklyRoseTurtle · 19/05/2025 21:40

It’s giving 1998

knittasgonna · 19/05/2025 22:27

I admire people who wear what they like without worrying about whether it's dated or someone else's idea of tacky. If I saw someone in that, I wouldn't think it was tacky or toddlerish. We can have different 'looks' depending on venue and mood. Not everything we wear has to be classic or tasteful.

The price is more of an issue. I'd look for more affordable versions of a similar style.

It’s subjective but I really don’t like it. I also really don’t like the cut of the jacket either

Eminybob · 21/05/2025 09:01

To be honest, the combination of some of the comments on here, and the fact that it has been following me around the internet stalking me for the last 2 weeks has put me right off 🤣

Hoolihan · 21/05/2025 09:07

Quite like the embroidery but the actual shape of the jacket is very dated. Look for something less fitted!

UpMyself · 21/05/2025 09:19

@Eminybob , I like it with the combats. Maybe I should stay away from S&B. Smile

I love my denim jackets, and am going to try to recreate the JB one with one I already have.

kellestar · 21/05/2025 10:05

Ooo see I quite like it. I'm a quirky/bright stuff person, a bit of a magpie. And yes, I get told I dress like a Toddler, which doesn't bother me a bit. Toddlers are known for the independent thinking, so I embrace my elder toddler years! I'm early 40's and chubby. But I would also lurk on Vinted for it too!

UpMyself · 21/05/2025 10:43

Isn't it a classic trucker style that bobs in and out of fashion every few years?
I prefer this style to the shapeless shackets.

PeppyRoseBeaker · 21/05/2025 13:52

I love it 😀
