All welcome

Veils drawn over last week...

The rules (anyone can join):

This is about feeling better about yourself...not necessarily a diet per se etc etc

  • Sunscreen at all times
  • No or little booze. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

That last thread was a busy thread - very hard to catch up if you miss a couple of days!

I have a black toe (well nail). I dropped a blardy big tub of (full) body scrub on it on Friday night. I'm struggling to walk with shoes on, (am fine without, lol) so may struggle with the walk from school this week. Did really well last week too, grrr.

Have managed to lose a further 2lb, which makes it a stone since last September I think, and it also means I'm back down to what I weighed when I was 40, which was the lightest I'd been since just after DS3 (who's 10 in August ) so, quite pleased. Not in the same league as you www!

Had a pleasant weekend, apart from words with DS1 who stropped over not being allowed to go to see the Harlem Globetrotters in Manchester on Friday. He was told ages ago, and was ok about it, but it was "the night" on Friday, so we had a bit of backlash. Still, we sent him (and DS2) on camp, so we didn't have too much hassle over it, lol.

unknownrebelbang · 18/05/2008 21:01

Oh, and I've sorted my wardrobe out, and I've more clothes than I thought, lol. Have thrown some away (including the "comfort" ones, eeek) and can fit in to some I've never worn before. Still a fair few I can't get into, but I'm working on it.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 18/05/2008 21:02

No babies arriving here. Though I have been cleaning all afternoon (despite enduring 2.5hrs of a children's party this morning and I had to stay because all the DCs were invited including 3yo DD2). I've even cleared a lot of paperwork (and happily discovered that pre-school owe me £340 in expenses). Am I nesting d'you think?!

Anyway, food has been good. Lots of fruit & veg. Lots of water.

Have moisturised everything and finally put some Flexitol on my feet last night and will do this evening too as it is naked feet weather again.

Wishing you all a good week (we're on half-term next week so another rest from the school run for me, hurrah!).

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 18/05/2008 21:04

Well done with the weight ureb but sorry about your toe. Mine have curled up into their shoes in sympathy!

iamdingdong · 18/05/2008 21:09

new thread, fresh start for me please!

couple of glasses of wine at lunch, none this evening
gym this morning plus gardening this pm
have been better with water and v good with body and cream
generally eating well, salads, fruit etc but also crisps last night watching dvd

lose marks for no sunscreen though

iamdingdong · 18/05/2008 21:11

oh duchess that does sound like the time is nigh!

Marina · 18/05/2008 23:58

But you clean and build and muck out and keep busy all the time DoNB. It's awfully tiring reading . Keeping all fingers crossed for you now...
Took children on Sunday School's picnic today and just as well I had virtuous and dismal cottage cheese sarnie on my person as who should turn up but my Slimming World Group Leader whose dd is a Brownie. Not the yummy chocolate sort alas.
Ureb, ouchies at the toe but well done on the weight loss. I am not sure any of us will be able to emulate jet-propelled www for now but maybe she's started something...
My first weigh in is Weds...OK, so have been checking at home but our scales are so abused by dd weighing her babies etc I think they may be taking their revenge. I can't believe I have lost 7lb in two days

Marina · 18/05/2008 23:59

LOL at title. I just refreshed and thought...WTF, I didn't post on that. Very droll missus

bamamama · 19/05/2008 05:13

Hello all, hope everyone had a lovely weekend.

Duchess - as Marina points out it always sounds like nesting round your place. I was quite disapointed that I didn't do any nesting with ds, our house could have done with it.

Ureb - ouch for your toe! Is it any better? Well done on the weight loss

Marina - lol at Brownie/brownie confusion. How are you finding slimy world? If I think the word 'diet' it makes me want to eat cake so I think I'd be hopeless.

Well it's Monday lunchtime here and have been out for coffee but resisted a snack. Day one of the week and all that. I've decided to sign up for another 10k run which is at the end of June so I'm trying to feel motivated for training again.

Happy Monday everyone.

Far more realistic title www.
Duch - I take a couple of weeks off, come back and you still haven't had the baby. Hurry up.

Ouch Ureb.

moonshine · 19/05/2008 17:17

WWW - great thread title - and well done on fantastic weight loss and continued determination.

Well done to Unknown as well.

Marina - it is possible to lose 7lbs in 2 days, especially if you have cut done on your carbs significantly, but then you know that, if it is true, it will be mostly water. But it doesn't matter - it all helps!

Do I sense a corner has been turned in 10yyland - usually we are all skulking on at this point to confess some terrible sins.

I have, for the first time in I don't know how long, managed to control eating and drinking this weekend and feel great (and would be really estactic if I could just get dcs to stop arguing). And I have discovered the secret of fast weight loss; wear really baggy shapeless clothes all winter and suddenly surprise everyone with a fitted outfit - voila loads of(well some)compliments (all totally undeserved but heigh ho, you got to get if where you can).

Now where's that baby Duchess (taps feet impatiently will be going away for a few days soon).

tortoiseSHELL · 19/05/2008 17:36

Hi all, lol at the title as well! DofNorks - you have to tell us the first twinge you get!!!

Marina - well done on 7lbs - I am SURE your scales are not dodgy

I'm trying to combine healthy eating with economising as well, which should work in theory, but it is SO hard trying to shop ethically, healthily, environmentally and cheaply! But we're trying to up the fruit and veg from the green grocer, and down the ready meals from Waitrose which should help in theory!

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 19/05/2008 18:29

Ooo you poor thing ureb. Although the weight loss is a consolation.

Less of the nesting Norks and more of the hatching if you please.

Now I have a confession...

I've done for dh and buried him under the patio. His crime? Cocked up on his shifts again and only got 1 day off between Friday when I finish work for the week and the following Monday when I go back, including both weekends!!! This is a repeat of the Easter break. Do you think he's trying to tell me he'd rather be at work?

Still no booze, still no exercise lol.

Bamamama at you signing up for another race.

Iota · 19/05/2008 18:32

oh goody I can come back if it's just chat and confession

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 19/05/2008 19:45

lol at marinas virtuous but dismal sandwich

pru - 3 months off sounds great. Btw are you having a -making holiday this year?

Everyone is doing rawther well this week.

Nothing happening with births or hatches yet...

I have done so much outdoor work today that Marina will need a lie-down if she reads it all. I have moved 400 yds of electric fencing, scrubbed out water troughs, mucked out horses & chickens, made a temporary home for the newborn chicks to go in, scythed some long weeds (oo-arr), had the farrier in to do ponies feet, moved ponies to new field. And still managed to fit in the school run and get the dog food. All major chores now done, my favourite midwife is away until Wednesday but otherwise I'm ready!

Food quite good but I ate 2 Tunnocks Tea Cakes AND a Fairtrade Chocolate Wafer after school when the DCs weren't looking. Lots of water.

I feel nicely tired for having been out and about and very pleased with having got everything finished. I have been sleeping better the last couple of nights too.

iamdingdong · 19/05/2008 20:04

my god duchess I should think you've easily earned the teacake and wafer!

catching up from last thread, well done to ww on superb weightloss, I am inspired

moonshine I used to get the train home to Kingham when I was at uni in London, its a fab little station in the middle of nowhere and so much better served than Cheltenham! I lived in Lechlade from 7 until I was 16 then we moved to Winchcombe (of sudeley castle fame)

saggers that is v bad of your not so D H mine is a teacher like me so can never use that excuse, though I'm sure he makes up the odd inset day now and then, as we are in different LAs!

quite good today, except someone brought a big chocolate cake in to work and I had to have some, plenty of water, fruit, veg, body cream, did heels last night and will have early night tonight, reasonably happy too

LoveAndSqualor · 19/05/2008 20:04

Hello all - great thread title, WWW. Though looking at what everyone's been up to, it seems to have had the reverse effect - weight loss and healthy eating a-go-go.

So, it is left to me to maintain the high standard for which this thread is known, and do your sinning for you. And my, have I ever, this weekend. First proper post-DS night out on Saturday at dear friend's wedding: I ate masses and mainlined champagne. Excellent . On the plus side, danced madly, which I will be logging officially as 'exercise'. Felt not-too-awful on Sunday, thankfully - just awful enough to have to sit around drinking gallons of tea and mainlining cake, biscuits and - snap, Duchess! - Tunnocks Tea Cakes (bliss).

Today has been much better - walking, soup for lunch, seeing sister and a couple of friends, so high on happiness. DS, alas, continuing to be a grumpy bugger, but! He laughed properly for the first time today, so once again, I forgave him his grumpiness. The minx.

Saggar, sounds like your DH was asking for it. I promise not to dob you in .

Tshell, have you thought about getting an organic box for economy/ethicalness/healthy eating? We get Abel and Cole and it's pretty good, I reckon.

oooh, time for dinner. No idea what's in, so had best go and investigate. Have good evenings!

unknownrebelbang · 19/05/2008 21:10

Tsk, I never even noticed the title - I could have been typing on anything!

I know a sympathetic copper, saggars, and I could get a good court report for you I'm sure, lol.

Toe is fine, if periodically throbbing. I've found some old sandals, so am managing quite well tbh.

Three months with DH at home sounds idyllic.

Duchess, where do you get your energy?

L&S glad you had a good time. Second what everyone says about relationship/babies on the last thread. DH and I rarely argued before we had the boys (it wasn't a match made in heaven - I stropped and he ignored!) but wow once tiredness hit the both of us, wound up in all those hormones/emotions......

WideWebWitch · 19/05/2008 21:12

well hello! Glad you all like the title. It's a far more accurate reflection of what goes on around here! But most pleasant it is too, I love this thread, it has lovely people on it.

L&S, I'm glad you had a lovely time at the wedding, it sounds fantastic and good on you for keeping up the sinning high standard.

Iamdingdong, you know, I can comlpetely resist chocolate cake as I don't care for it much but I don't blame you for not doing so, the rest sounds lovely.

DofN, my word, I need a lie down, that is loads, it does sound like nesting stuff. Swoon at farrier too, is he attractive? I'm glad you're getting some sleep that last bit is tough when you can't sleep well.

Iota, you can but do confess, go on!

Saggars, not surprised you did him in, it's a heinous crime, that.

Tshell, healthy, cheap AND environmentally friendly is a challenge, good luck though. I think local is the way to go and less meat helps keep the price down too. Waitrose is lethal I think, they have recently been tempting me with 'just for you' offers where they tell me I can have things I've bought before for less money, which is very nice but includes lovely pink Champagne, which I keep just pretending isn't there as am on India Wagon.

Moonshine, I'm glad you feel great and lol at secret of weight loss - weren't you already fairly slim from Cambridge diet iirc? Hmm? Confess!

Prufrock, oh how lovely, will it be fantastic having him at home for all that time? Hmm, well, do you eat salad? I have mostly on the green things front been eating
salad, rocket etc
spinach, as salad leaves, haven't been cooking it
cucumber
green beans
avocado
broccoli
But you're also allowed
pak choi
kale
cabbage
cauliflower
some other veg I can't think of but don't like so have erased them but not peas or carrots as they're too carby

I am v much enjoying it though, it so doesn't feel like a diet, I can eat like this for the long term I think. Please do post any envy inducing holiday plans so we can vicariously enjoy!

Batters, you sound happy, which is great. Champagne also sounds lovely.

Bama, 10k run very impressive, well done.

Marina, lol at Brownie and eww at cottage cheese, I used to eat that in the dim and distant past (I mean when I was v young, my mum used to buy it) and I bet you have lost 7lb, well done.

unknown, well done on the weight loss, that's fab and ouch at your toe, bloody hell, bet that hurt. Do you have one special thing you'd like to be able to get into again? I have a pair of wide leg black trousers and when I can get into them I know I'm the same size as when I met dh.

  • Sunscreen yes
  • No booze.
  • 2 x 2 mile hikes, plus 15 mins twister.
  • Lots of water/weak tea, not sure I've had enough today.
  • Apply body cream lax
  • Use hand cream lax
  • Go to bed early, 11ish last night.
  • Eat healthily. No, far too much chocolate today.
  • Be happy. Not bad for a Monday.
WideWebWitch · 19/05/2008 21:16

today

homemade haddock muffin for breakfast but think I should have had 2 as I was still hungry so will have two tomorrow.
smoked salmon and cream cheese
some salami and cheese
brazil nuts
and was STARVING at the station and was so relieved to see a nut stall so had more nuts
then came home to a roast chicken which I had with salad
lots of water
lots of vitamins
sunscreen
late night but most enjoyable
so must go to bed soon

And we're all off next week and intend doing very little, hurrah!

Trainer very early yesterday. Had a fab session and I lost 3 lb! Proceeded to eat an enormous roast lunch (mostly steamed veg) and a fairly virtuous fruit salad. Did have wine last night though. Kept a food diary last week and think I need to make it a regular thing. Much worse seeing it in writing especially all the extra nibbles usually as I dish up the children's tea.

Reasonable day today although not brilliant. Been very busy sorting out the house after parents' visit. So much washing and ironing!

Will go to the gym tomorrow and have a session booked mid-week too. Meeting up with friends next week that I haven't seen in a while. Need to be very strict from now until then.

WWW and Marina - fab losses. You are setting very good examples to us all.

DoNB - you have so much energy! Now that all the big stuff is done perhaps you could put your feet up for a day or so to recoup your energy.

L&S - wedding sounds great. at DS's first laugh.

Batters - carrots aplenty here too. My orange glow will have nothing to do with fake tan.

Moonshine - agree with the fitted outfit after shapeless sack. A friend's husband was completely taken aback that I not only had a figure (a fair few pounds gained in the last year sadly) but that , yes, I did occasionally wear make-up and contacts and heels. I think I had been the invisible one until that night.

unknownrebelbang · 19/05/2008 21:27

I have the LBD I bought but never wore hanging up on the front of my wardrobe. It fits (which was a blardy miracle) but not well, iykwim, that will take me back to pre-kids, at present I'm a stone heavier than then.

I also have the dress I wore during our evening reception - it nowhere near fits, but I would love to get back into it.

I also have a pair of 12s jeans I bought as a teenager...which never really fitted...but I kept because I loved them (they're a dyed denim). One day....one day...

How sad does that make me, lol!

(Or just a hoarder???)

Oh, and I count at least part of my success on these threads, so thanks for starting them, and thanks also to everyone for the laughs and support.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 19/05/2008 22:58

I hate putting my feet up unless I have a really good book. I'm happiest when I'm pottering about outside. (But being on my feet so much is playing havoc with m'piles)!!!

www - the farrier IS gorgeous! The previous one looked like a red-haired Peter Stringfellow and was unreliable, the new chap was recommended by a swooning pre-school mum! It is a well-known local fact that he talks non-stop about his fiance to keep all his overly attentive female clients at bay!

rofl @ urebs 'sympathetic copper'.
