These are very Manchester, to my mind, and would be great with the skirt:

Grenson boots

You know, I actually have some boots very similar to those.

So how about, the boots, black tee, black leather biker jacket?

angelinawasrobbed · 11/04/2025 10:05

get thee to the Next clearance section. Within not very long I suspect you will find something similar for a fraction of the price

Bailiwitch · 11/04/2025 10:07

Bit too predictable. No one needs to see the black T shirt / black leather jacket combination in spring or summer. Maybe a deeply scooped black vest. But then you’d have to wear artfully distressed sneakers rather than boots.

More and more convinced the skirt wants a grey t shirt …

Edited

Won’t it be all a bit too grey?
I know nothing about style tbf, hence asking on here so you’re probably right.

Love that this thread has gone from people putting me off the skirt to helping me style it 🤣

Ooh, I think that could be just as useful as jeans... worn with casual tops and shoes that could go anywhere.

Bailiwitch · 11/04/2025 10:17

@Eminybobthere isn’t a sequinned skirt here at the moment - but this is the sort of … vibe I’m thinking of:

Simone Rocha

Bailiwitch · 11/04/2025 10:19

All a bit too much one colour? Nah … Tonal dressing is still with us.

Obviously you’ll want to consider your own hair colour and skin tone to arrive at the best combination of pieces.

Bailiwitch · 11/04/2025 10:25

@Newfun a couple of days before the first lockdown started I bought a long silvery perma pleated skirt from Zara for £5.99. Last minute purchase to wear to a concert. Somehow it became my ‘jeans’ - pulled on almost every time I left the house. It went with everything and was so incredibly easy to wear.

Only thing was the elasticated waist. I came out of the lockdown years with a much expanded waistline, which I hadn’t noticed because the skirt still fitted …

Eminybob · 11/04/2025 10:26

So I have subscribed to Massimo Dutti’s newsletter and have a 10% discount code.
Still can’t order until I’m back from my hols though so hoping it’s still in stock in my size.

Speaking of which, does anyone know what their sizing is like?

I’m an 8/10 so not sure which to go for

I don't think sequins are flattering on anyone except maybe someone in a beauty pageant!
I'd say the silver colour could easily not be right by winter season.
I personally don't really like it. But you should get it if you do, but you have to force yourself to wear it to Aldi. 😃

Isometimeswonder · 11/04/2025 10:32

@Eminybob I subscribe to the Trinny school of thought... sequins and sparkle are for any time, not just Christmas parties.
Get it.

angelinawasrobbed · 11/04/2025 10:34

I suspect everything will be gold next Christmas. But sod that. Silver sequins are very summer

angelinawasrobbed · 11/04/2025 10:35

(I have a gunmetal, full length, bias cut sequin skirt and it has been incredibly useful with a plain white shirt a la Sharon Stone. Or maybe it was Gwynnie)

It's hand wash only
It'll make your arse look like a glitter ball unless you're stick thin
It's really long on that model and she's 179cm tall so you'll be at risk of tripping over it
I bet it's really uncomfortable to sit in

Bailiwitch · 11/04/2025 11:29

Money left for a T shirt …

American Vintage?

Though they also have less grungy options. Or:

James Perse

Or

Margaret Howell ♥️

Ok, in a complete U turn I have ordered this Hush skirt from vinted. Not quite as nice but same vibe and significantly cheaper. Plus better for the environment 😇

Ah you got your fix! Well done 😊

I love that American vintage one. Thank you

Buy it! Sequins look fabulous in the summer sun too, no need to wait until Christmas!

SamuelDJackson · 11/04/2025 12:45

I like the first skirt. I would accessorise it with a cigarette holder, tubercular slouch and the acid wit of Dorothy Parker.
Then not sit down for the whole evening for fear of scrumpling my sequins and leaving a glittering snail trail in my wake.

BestDIL · 11/04/2025 13:08

FFS its £119. Get real. Save your money for something that you will probably hate in 6 months and never wear!
