Marine Collagen - THANK YOU! ♥️

MNetters are amazing, thank you!

Since giving birth to my last child almost thirty years ago, my hair just got thinner and finer. Menopause was the killer - it just got worse and worse…I could clearly see my scalp, particularly around my hairline and parting. Over the years, I’ve spent £££ on shampoos, conditioners, pills, serums…you name it.
At the beginning of the year, I saw a thread on here & marine collagen was recommended. I decided to give it a go, and at just over 3 months in, my hair is definitely thicker and the density is very noticeable. Good condition too.
THIS STUFF WORKS!
This is the one I purchased- I didn’t like it stirred in drinks, so I take it in the morning in porridge.
Thanks lovely people of MN for a brilliant recommendation!

Hi all, I started taking marine collagen two weeks ago today. I’m early 50s and was so achy in my joints, but it seems to have all but gone already. Seriously impressed!

Can you link to which ones please?

Not sure how to link lol but it’s 100% Marine Collagen with hyaluronic acid vit C and biotin, from New Leaf Products on Amazon - tub of 60 capsules two a day 😊bluish green label

Oh, I've had New Leaf before, Superdrug do them too. The reviews put me off about the tablet size though - did you find them big?

Reasonably big but having said that I can swallow both at once with some water so not too bad personally 😊I think because they’re capsules rather than tablets they’re easier

Which one did u go for? I'm scared!!

I went for this on @XiCi S recommendation. I'm going away with a new boyfriend today and had to put some in a tupperware to bring with me. I hope he doesn't think it's anything nefarious.

those who say they add it to coffee - can you explain please? do you literally just add a scoop of the powder in to your hot coffee? or are you making an iced coffee protein smoothie?

dnamummy · 13/04/2025 22:09

I use the ancient and brave powdered collagen, I have a 3 shot black coffee and sprinkle one large scoop on the top, if you wait a minute then stir it is completely dissolved and to my senses, tasteless. If I fancy a hot drink after dinner I use their cacao powder with collagen to make a hot chocolate, so sometimes I get a double collagen hit.

Wow, my tablets just arrived. Stupid question. The bottle says to take 3 a day, doesn't say to do so at 3 separate times or all together. Anyone else have better directions on their bottles?

I've got survey scars nearly 2 years old. My DH has surgery scars not two months old, and his look so much better than mine. I'm going to take a picture in the morning of my face and scars as a record.

I take four a day all at once. I started off two in the morning and two in the evening but I'd end up forgetting at least once a day.

That’s the one I use, I genuinely think it tastes fine. The hunter and gather one absolutely stunk
usually just tip it in whatever I’m having for breakfast so smoothie, yoghurt, porridge etc

@footpain I usually drink instant coffee first thing so just put a scoop of the powder at the bottom of the cup, along with the coffee, pour over boiling water and stir ( add milk) I used ancient and brave bovine powder and it dissolves easily with no lumps and I can’t smell or taste it at all

Does anyone have any feedback on what it does for joints?

I started taking bovine collagen for joints, my knees specifically, I now don't have pain and they are less "crunchy" sounding when I go upstairs. I switched to marine, which is more expensive, because apparently it's also good for skin, which I belive bovine is not. Anyway, in my experience, bovine and marine collagen have been good for joints. I think I will be taking collagen as a supplement forever now.

Thanks, I saw you mentioned that upthread. Do you have the H&B one?

dudsville · 14/04/2025 07:44

Or maybe that doesn't matter. Mine are 300mg each. It certainly would be easier to take them all at once.

RedBear88 · 13/04/2025 09:34

Do any of these help with the hot flushes? They got worse in the last few weeks.

Not as far as I know, but try sage tablets. Funnily enough I saw it recommended on an episode of Come Dine With Me, did some research and yes it is a thing! I personally find the Holland and Barrett sage a bit rubbish, I use Natures Best (can get them on Amazon).

I have the Correcxiko marine ones. I noticed a difference to my skin almost immediately. DD also noticed. A few weeks in I also noticed my joints felt a lot better. I had more range of movement in my shoulders and just generally a lot more ease of movement. I am quite bad at remembering to take them every day but they still seem to be working.

I thought bovine was supposed to be better than marine as I read somewhere there are 2 types of collagen and bovine has both where as marine had one?

has anyone tried both separately and got any views about which is better please?

DarcyProudman · 14/04/2025 17:22

Just taken the plunge and bought some! Fingers crossed for a miracle 😀

I have a thread running on here as I started ancient and brave bovine collagen 3 weeks ago and I am using that thread to track progress

I am not paid or have any affiliation to anything but I am 42 and joints hurt and noticed my hair has thinned so wanted to give something a shot. I did quite a bit of research and there are studies done on hydrolysed collagen (the one I use) on effects on athletes and improvement to joint pain and the added bonus of hair and skin improvement

Studies were based on 20ml a day which is 4 scoops of ancient and brave so that’s what I started with from the off. I am already seeing new growth in hair and my skin is glowing and hair is definitely shinier so we will see how things progress

you must take it with vitamin c as it helps synthesis collagen so I have also been taking it alongside the bovine powder

But am I correct in thinking that vitamin C absorption is inhibited by milk products? So having collagen coffee alongside vitamin C would limit the benefit…

I’m be started taking this recently too for similar reasons. My nephew’s missus had a nightmare with hair loss & hormone levels dropping drastically post childbirth & she recommended biotin which seems to be working well for me too. I’d heard about it & was a bit unsure, but she’s a nurse & was raving about it

Bovine collagen has types 1 and 3 which are for skin/nails and cardiovascular benefits. Marine collagen has type 2 which is best for joint pain. There is also a type 4 and 5 you get from things like egg shells but not sure of those benefits. You can get combined bovine/marine to cover all types.

My mistake…it’s iron absorption that is affected by milk, not vitamin C. But vitamin C enhances iron absorption, so I’ve usually tended to take them together in the afternoon when I’m off the tea & coffee, hence the confusion, sigh…

I can't recommend this as I haven't tried it yet but am thinking of giving this a go when I run out of my current one. Seems to have good reviews on Amazon
