Does this wedding dress suit me?

I am going back to the bridal store to try this dress on again as I loved it the first time. What do you think of it?? I am worried it may be too much but I have tried plainer dresses before and I always feel very underwhelmed in them so I think I prefer a dress with more details. The dress is also ridiculously expensive which is another reason I am struggling to commit.
If there are any dresses either similar to this or that you think would suit me better, please let me know. Or if you think I should go for it, please give me the confidence to say yes to the dress!

I love it and think your figure looks beautiful in it. It doesn’t look like lingerie at all, and people saying about strapless dresses being dated were saying that when I got married in 2011 and yet they still sell thousands of strapless wedding dresses and people are still wearing them! Also who cares if later down the line your pictures look dated, all pictures look dated eventually. As long as you are happy at the time that’s what’s important.

That being said if you don’t love it, don’t buy it. If you have time keep looking as there will be a dress that you don’t have doubts over.

I’m another one who’s not sure about the proportions of the top vs the bottom. You have a good figure so you look perfectly nice in it. Don’t mind spending some time looking at wedding dresses for someone I don’t know on the internet though so what’s the maximum budget?

I get exactly what you like about it, the detail on the full skirt is very pretty.

I think the problem you'll have with it is you have too big a bust for the boned corset, the bra part is too small for your boobs so it looks odd, you'd likely need to order several sizes bigger and it won't alter well. I'm also not personally a fan of the strapless look.

Wed2b have some very similar dresses, really reasonably priced plus more flattering necklines.

Thank you that's really helpful. I will have a look through them xxx

I like the top (which seems to be an unpopular view on here), wouldn’t hurt to line it I guess. But my first thought was that the skirt looks very fussy and detracts from your gorgeous figure. Maybe just me!

Riaanna · 05/04/2025 08:30

It’s not your dress.

When you give the dress you won’t ask on Mumsnet.

NotMeNoNo · 05/04/2025 08:41

I think it's lovely and will fit fine when it's made in your size, not the sample.
There is a lot of applique detail, it could be overwhelming - you might want to try some other versions of the same thing.

The visible boning/corset is just a current wedding trend, i think it's a nice detail. I watch a lot of Say yes to the dress so my bar for a trashy wedding dress is much higher because they have some shockers!

Doitrightnow · 05/04/2025 08:54

My ex Fi preferred plain wedding dresses and I thought I did too. When I tried on dresses though, I loved the laciest, puffiest dress I'd ever seen!

I struggled to choose what I really wanted vs what I thought ex Fi would prefer. Eventually I bought the one I wanted and never regretted it.

FlowersRainbow · 05/04/2025 08:58

I think you look lovely and the dress is great. I had a strapless ballgown style dress with a huge skirt with loads of detail and absolutely loved it, I felt like a princess all day - its the only day you get to feel like this so if you want lots of detail and a big skirt then go for it. Got married in 2022 and couldn’t care less if strapless was ‘not trendy’. Once it’s altered to fit you, you should have no problem with it slipping down, I didn't at all. As other posters have said, you might feel more comfortable/classic with a lined bodice- especially if you are getting married in church. Go with something you love and feel comfortable in - trends will come and go. Hope you have an amazing wedding day!

DurhamDurham · 05/04/2025 09:01

The skirt part of the dress is absolutely beautiful, I'm not keen on the top half but you still look fab!

Maurepas · 05/04/2025 09:01

I don't like it.

Mischance · 05/04/2025 09:04

I would be worried about my tits popping out - you need something you can feel both beautiful and comfortable in. You have a long day to get through!

Agenoria · 05/04/2025 09:08

I think the skirt would be lovely with a plain satin top, if that's available.

glitterturd · 05/04/2025 09:11

I love the skirt but I'm not a fan of these corset type tops. They give a certain message I think but that's just me.

Good point!

kkneat · 05/04/2025 09:17

It suits you but the top half is just not nice (sorry) and I too really dislike strapless wedding dresses. It’s probably a matter of taste, I prefer more elegant looking dresses.

murraymcgill · 05/04/2025 09:21

I'd say it looks really nice and I hope u have the best day ever

You’re a stunning bride but I don’t think that’s the dress for you. The line between bodice and skirt is too obvious and cuts you across the middle. I also think there are too many layers in the skirt, making the silhouette bigger across the hips than you need.

How about something like this, where the bodice and skirt fit together (to my eye) more harmoniously?

Think this or similar would really suit your figure.

That is beautiful. So elegant and a lot more timeless. If you really want to go for something sheer like this, I would go for something, which looks less like underwear. It feels as though the bodice, especially around the bust area needs some of the flowers from the skirt. The dress you posted reminds me a little of prom dresses. But even the prom dresses look less like a corset / basque. This is a link of a well known website for prom dresses if you go through the pics you will see one with 4 prom dresses to show you what I mean. Obviously I’m not suggesting you order from there… these dresses are not white and mainly targeted at 16 year olds… https://www.redcarpetready.co.uk/product/georgia-babyblue/

That dress above my post is also very lovely.

The shape of the dress is lovely but I don’t like the material at all. The top looks like every debs dress my dd was looking at recently. I do love the princess style though. Have you more to try on?

Overtheatlantic · 05/04/2025 09:42

The web2be Sofie dress is gorgeous.

KnickerlessParsons · 05/04/2025 09:47

It’s not my cup of tea either. I don’t like the top part and the skirt looks like it’s off a wedding dress from the 1950s

PrettayGood · 05/04/2025 09:50

It looks ok on you. I don’t like it, but that’s just me.

CertainUncertain · 05/04/2025 09:53

I think you look lovely in it @Wotoo- I like the top.

The sample size is definitely a bit big, so it's slightly hard to tell, but I think in this size, the bottom is swamping you slightly and the waist might be hitting you slightly lower than it should.

When I put a finger on either side of the photo to slim down the skirt ever so slightly, I like it even better - it still looks gorgeously full, but slightly better proportions. Have you seen it with the hem pinned up? Because I wonder if taking away length will make the skirt look even more full?

Have you brought anyone with you to look at it?

You're going to be gorgeous. Hope you have a lovely wedding!

Elephantofsurprise · 05/04/2025 09:58

I think it is lovely. I really like the skirt and I think you are right in wanting something special for your wedding not a plain white dress.

It sounds like you are not 100% certain about it. You you choose something that you think is amazing.

What do you like about it and what are you not sure about? You could probably find something that has everything you want.
