The next thread, royal style mavens! The title suggestion was from our last thread. Mary of Teck was never knowingly underdressed or less than bejewelled!

I'm glad Anne visited Liverpool 👍

Same, good for her. She's a trouper and would have made the best monarch imho.
Heading back to the fashion, she looks 'neat' as my grandmother would have said, which was a compliment not to be underestimated of its time!

We’re getting a European princess in Australia! A long way from home.

Good on her. I'm sure she'll be glad to get away from the scandal that Marius's behaviour has caused, and she'll be able to stay fairly anonymous in Oz.

I also read the other day that Alexia, the middle Dutch princess, is at UCL studying engineering. Which seems quite an unusual choice for a royal!

Maireas · 28/05/2025 16:23

That's great!

What surname would Ingrid use while studying? I know the Dutch princesses use van Oranje and the Spanisb de Borbon Ortiz. Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg is quite the mouthful!

It's brilliant though! That was Prince Philip's original surname.

Isn't she? Burgundy and black, very appropriate. Her hair is looking very bouffant, though!

Apparently, Anne was in Liverpool anyway to mark the 185th anniversary of Cunard. But I do agree she always turns up when needed and always looks professional, even if a little mismatched on occasion shall we say? 😆 it was quite windy yesterday so maybe that is why her hair was making a bid for freedom from her usual updo 😆

CPV went to the US (Yale?) to allow her to study away from the pressure - nobody knew who Victoria Bernadotte was

Pallisers · 28/05/2025 18:31

Crown Princess Elizabeth of Belgium is studying in Harvard - well was -- Trump just revoked Harvard's authority to have international students.

Maireas · 28/05/2025 18:33

Yes, I was reading that.

I wonder if one of Queen Mary’s children would study in Australia? Christian is currently undertaking military training I think, and if Isabella is now 18 she must be finished school?

Serenster · 28/05/2025 19:34

I aso saw a post on X pointing out that William is the only current heir who has not studied abroad. I think that’s not really a helpful comparison - he was so famous as a teenager that he couldn’t really have gone under the radar anywhere he might have studied, and from a security and no-press agreement perspective, staying in the UK would have been the safest option.

I agree with you. Plus, after St Andrew's he trained as an Air Ambulance pilot and he also went to college to study business and land management.

Yes William got a degree from St Andrews, spent 7 years in the military (all 3 branches), used his helicopter search and rescue skills to get a job as an Air Ambulance pilot and did an executive degree in agricultural management at Cambridge University.

Although he did not study abroad he did do a few overseas deployments in the military. During his time with the Navy on HMS Iron Duke in the Caribbean his helicopter was involved in chasing drug traffickers where the Royal Marines onboard opened fire, and he also flew a mission to Afghanistan to repatriate a dead soldier to the UK.

Maireas · 29/05/2025 11:38

Thanks, @Lunde . That's really interesting information. William sounds as if he's had a good and varied series of experiences.

William spent three years here on the helicopters. Whizzed around on a motorbike with Catherine on the back. Went surfing, walking, shopping, ate and drank in local hostelries. Went to the cinema. They weren't photogr by locals, the press left them alone. He was doing an important job saving lives.

I think this grounding privacy rather like the queen and Philip in Malta was important for a young couple who's lives were to be bound in tradition and service.

KnickerlessParsons · 29/05/2025 20:13

It’s such a shame that Harry and Meghan didn’t do something similar in the time leading up to their marriage and for some time after.

(That’s for another thread however. This is S&B 😁).

Not sure if added already but youngest Dutch Princess graduated from UWC in Italy. Nicer weather than the Welsh one presumably.

What a great picture! I like the colour of both dresses, particularly Max's. Although the belt buckle is a bit too large! Very Max.

Edited

I remember when they graduated from the Welsh one. I thought of the weather here, thought that they were mad 😁

New portraits of the twins have been released. Vincent looks very smart and Josephine is really pretty. She has beautiful eyes!

(Not that those are the most important qualities, but we don't know much about their personalities yet. Within 5 years there will be two more adults in the Royal family; amazing how time flies. I wonder what they'll end up doing, since it's unlikely they'll be full-time working royals)

FabulousPharmacyst · 30/05/2025 12:01

Vincent is very like one of this cousins upthreads. Not the one wrapped around his girlfriend on the beach on the cover of Vogue.

Josephine is very like Mary. Strong Scottish genes 😁

KiIIingMeDeftly · 30/05/2025 14:52

Vincent looks a lot like his paternal grandfather.
