The next thread, royal style mavens! The title suggestion was from our last thread. Mary of Teck was never knowingly underdressed or less than bejewelled!

That is a nice dress on Eugenie. Suits her.

AllTangledUpInDaisiesAndDiadems · 27/05/2025 08:48

It was Fred's birthday yesterday and the family (sans Christian who is away for military training) made the traditional appearance on the Amalienborg balcony.

To mark the occasion the King awarded Counts Nikolai and Felix the Grand Star of the Order of Dannebrog.

The Danish royal family are very formal and traditional, aren't they? We often hear about Scandinavian monarchies being more modern, but the Danish RF do seem to be very traditional.

Tradition is so important; if you strip away the heritage and history of it all then what is the actual point...but at the same time they're very sleek in their PR dealings which obviously matters a lot these days and they are down to earth and quite relatable in person and quite modern in that respect. But clearly still very much Royal.

Must be quite a tightrope to walk.

Maireas · 27/05/2025 09:26

Yes, it's very interesting how different monarchies work, plus how similar they are in many respects.

Nikolai and Benedikte are on the cover of the June edition of Danish Elle magazine.

Is that Josephine on the right? (I get the younger royals all muddled up). She looks like a Mini-Mary in that picture. I do like the floral blouse and trousers which looks formal but age-appropriate. I’m less keen on the orange suit on the left though - it’s a bit too Tango.

Tablefor4 · 27/05/2025 11:18

Interesting with the Danes. Are these Fred's nieces and nephews from whom Daisy removed the titles? Feels like a bit of a reaching out.

AllTangledUpInDaisiesAndDiadems · 27/05/2025 13:33

Yes they are Joachim's older sons from his marriage to Alexandra.

I think they've all been friendly enough again for a while now, certainly Mary and Marie were laughing and joking and seemed quite comfortable with each other at an event a few months ago. Maybe the distance with Joachim and Marie living in the US has helped too.

It became clear when Margrethe abdicated why she had decided to push the change through urgently and in the long run I think it will have been the right way to do it - had she left it just a few months longer it would have been down to Fred to wield that axe which would potentially have caused much more strife in the family.

Yes that's Josephine and she does look a lot like Mary.

The Swedes are out and looking swish at the Polar Music awards. Victoria often dresses a bit more directionally at this event than normal - I love her dress tonight. I think the modern necklace is a bit distracting though. Sylvia is still recovering from her foot injury, but looks great in her gunmetal dress.

That maple leaf brooch is very lovely! ❤️

Our thread mascots have been taking part in the Closing the Octave ceremony in Luxembourg. From some of the pictures it looked a bit long, damp, and a bit too much for the little ones. 💙💙

And I’m not sure if it’s been posted already but I love this halter neck dress on Eugenie at the Chelsea Flower show. She’s worn some nice things recently.

The cut of that dress is great on Eug. I wish she’d always stick to v-necks and realise how much better they look on her than the awful trussed up high necks that she often favours.

The poor mascots look drenched!

Maireas · 27/05/2025 20:14

Nice look on Camilla, and that's a great hat! Lovely jewellery.

Victoria's dress is really good. Is that the same event to which she wore a massive neon dress some years ago?

I know her pulled back hair is her signature look and probably helps keep her a bit more anonymous when off duty, but I do wish she'd experiment with even a different updo!

justasking111 · 27/05/2025 21:59

Va va voom Victoria. Love the dress.

Yes! And this froofy pink dress too.

Victoria looks fab in the black gown (not so much in the fairy on the Christmas tree pink and yellow ones!)

MotherofPearl · 27/05/2025 22:25

I like Victoria’s dramatic black dress but agree about the modern necklace. I don’t think it needed a necklace at all.

RomainingCalm · 28/05/2025 00:36

Princess Elizabeth of Belgium was out this evening in a Rebecca Vallance dress very similar to one that Zara has worn previously. I like both of them.

deeahgwitch · 28/05/2025 07:57

I love CP Victoria’s black dress. It didn’t need that necklace.
I think a fringe would suit her.

AllTangledUpInDaisiesAndDiadems · 28/05/2025 09:34

I agree she looks fab, the dress is very nice and the necklace is all wrong. A simple tennis necklace (that's not an actual thing is it...🤔) would've looked good. Or nothing and just let the dress shine!

It's just been announced that Ingrid Alexandra has decided to study in Sydney.
