The next thread, royal style mavens! The title suggestion was from our last thread. Mary of Teck was never knowingly underdressed or less than bejewelled!

Sorry, yes, the butter yellow Emilia Wickstead dress for the garden party wasn’t a coat dress but today’s navy one by Suzannah London (£1,850) IS described as a coat dress.
Both hats were by Philip Treacy and today’s was previously worn at Trooping the Colour in 2024.

Yes I thought that was a funny coincidence! She's done quite well at avoiding them up 'til now!

AllTangledUpInDaisiesAndDiadems · 22/05/2025 22:28

Mind you, coat dress or not I can't fault today's look.

Lunde · 22/05/2025 22:31

@Choux Thanks for the brooch information. Nice to know that even if she is re-wearing a lot - she is still getting new jewellery.

justasking111 · 22/05/2025 22:40

Gorgeous brooch.

I suspect Diana's skirt might have been a couple of inches higher.😉

deeahgwitch · 23/05/2025 07:33

Why would 2 Livery companies fund the brooch for the Princess of Wales ?

Livery companies usually do so in recognition of a person's patronage of charities.
Also, women naming ships are traditionally given a gift of jewellery.

The two livery companies mentioned seem to be more about philanthropy and charity now rather than being active trade associations. Not sure how giving Kate a brooch works. Perhaps the navy or even the royals make a donation and then a brooch appears for ship naming day!

From the website of the Fanmakers Livery Company:

Most Livery companies have associations with the Armed Forces, the Fan Makers are no exception. In 1888 Fan Maker and Lord Mayor Sir James Whitehead raised funds for equipment and in 1899 Sir Alfred Newton, Lord Mayor and Fan Maker, inaugurated the City Imperial Volunteers to fight in the Boer War.
The Worshipful Company of Fan Makers is affiliated to HMS Westminster, a Type 23 'Duke' Class frigate … With its expected decommissioning in 2024, new affiliations have been made with 846 Naval Air Squadron and HMS Glasgow a new Type 26 Class Frigate.

The website explains that as hand held fans are now obsolete the Company focus on modern variation of the technology - turbines, jet engines etc. As they have supported the new HMS Glasgow, they in turn have contributed to a brooch for the ship’s royal sponsor to mark her full commissioning.

This came up in my Facebook feed today - worn by the Queen to a ball in Ottawa in 1957; maple leaves of emerald velvet, York roses of pearls, crystals and diamonds

That gown is fabulous.

QEII and Princess Margaret had such stunning eveningwear

KiIIingMeDeftly · 23/05/2025 13:47

I think they were both real lovers of fashion and clothes. People forget that QEII wasn't always an elderly woman in colourblocked skirt suits!

AllTangledUpInDaisiesAndDiadems · 23/05/2025 17:20

And of course there were many more suitable occasions for that sort of wear back when Elizabeth and Margaret were young.

eggandonion · 23/05/2025 18:43

That looks tiny, and beautiful.

Serenster · 23/05/2025 20:52

Here’s Dame Helen Mirren at the Cannes film festival wearing a frankly astonishing necklace by Australian jeweller Margot McKinney. The size of those aquamarines! And the pearls! If Camilla ever wanted to tinker with the large and frankly clunky Brazilian aquamarine parure, maybe she should give Margot a call. I’d love to see the result!

Gosh, Helen M looks fabulous - what a figure and look for a lady in her seventies!

BridgetJonesesOwl · 24/05/2025 01:41

Changing subject I've just read a really good book that was £1.89 on Amazon Kindle called 'Regina The Queens Who Could Have Been' by Emily Murdoch Perkins.
It's looking at the eldest daughter of the monarch starting with Æthelflæd eldest child of Alfred the Great & what it may have been like if the eldest daughter would have ruled.
Æthelflæd rocked & the book is really good!

Maireas · 24/05/2025 09:30

That sounds really interesting, @BridgetJonesesOwl .
I often think about what would have happened if Princess Charlotte hadn't died in childbirth and had succeeded her father, George IV.

Yes, Camilla in pale pink Anna Valentine, Chanel shoes, and the Queen Mother’s diamond maple leaf brooch.

That maple leaf brooch is very lovely! ❤️

Our thread mascots have been taking part in the Closing the Octave ceremony in Luxembourg. From some of the pictures it looked a bit long, damp, and a bit too much for the little ones. 💙💙

And I’m not sure if it’s been posted already but I love this halter neck dress on Eugenie at the Chelsea Flower show. She’s worn some nice things recently.
