The next thread, royal style mavens! The title suggestion was from our last thread. Mary of Teck was never knowingly underdressed or less than bejewelled!

I really like the white. I always think white/cream suits Kate
Like her necklace too

Sidebeforeself · 08/05/2025 22:28

It’s a no from me.Hate the bow,the necklace and the skirt…bit of a jumble!

Maireas · 08/05/2025 22:31

Me too, @BridgetJonesesOwl . I like the white and the look is slightly different for Kate.

I agree it’s a jumble and I also hate the skirt and the bow. However I do love the necklace. It’s about the only thing I do like about that outfit. She looked lovely in the polka dot dress earlier.

KiIIingMeDeftly · 08/05/2025 22:54

I think she has a couple of versions of that Self-Portrait dress. It's a bit too twee for my liking.

Speaking of twee, is that a shadow or has Kate got a giant bow in her hair?

KiIIingMeDeftly · 08/05/2025 23:03

Just seen a few more pics and yes, it is a giant bow. That's a no from me...

RomainingCalm · 08/05/2025 23:28

It’s not my favourite outfit on Kate - I think it’s another rewear and she wore it for HMQ’s Diamond Jubilee concert. It’s slightly better in the black version.

I felt quite sorry for the Royal Family tonight at the concert. It looked freezing and whilst I know it’s their job, Charles and Camilla did look as if they would much rather be at home in their PJs watching it on the tv.

I love a bow. I still have two of mine from the 1980s. am waiting (hopefully) that they will come back in fashion. 😂

Catherine is wearing the pearls again 💓

AllTangledUpInDaisiesAndDiadems · 09/05/2025 10:38

The pearls are so lovely! And a new pair of earrings too.

I do think Catherine sometimes takes her look one step too far - as if she just can't resist making the last piece of the puzzle fit 'just so' but in doing so it ends up looking at worst a bit like a pastiche, at best just very, very predictable. I think it's usually best to throw in a wild card instead, to make the look more modern or interesting.

eggandonion · 09/05/2025 11:33

I hope Charles and Camilla are off duty for the weekend to Potter around the garden.
The Edinburgh and Gloucester couples are very good at helping out, and Princess Anne as ever.
Ascot must be coming in a short few weeks.

AllTangledUpInDaisiesAndDiadems · 09/05/2025 11:37

Yes I thought that too. Charles is the type of person who needs to work to keep/feel well, I think. But when you're elderly and have cancer it's important to rest.

I haven't looked back on the thread to see if anyone posted photos from DK so I'm sorry if I am repeating, but here's one photo of Mary from the other day, showing her mirroring Daisy's tradition of wearing an anchor brooch whilst on Dannebrog.

That’s a very elegant outfit on Mary. I liked the photo below of them enjoying the sunshine.

Something about this photo reminds me of the pictures of Tsar Nicholas II and family on board their royal yacht.

justasking111 · 09/05/2025 14:07

I fell across the German media who were throwing mud at Fred and Mary marriage wise yesterday. Read like a scandal rag to be honest.

Choux · 09/05/2025 14:24

Well there WAS a bit of scandal a couple of years ago @justasking111. I think that was a factor in Daisy abdicating when she did.

Yes! However, one would hope with a happier outcome 😐

Germany is well known for its tabloids but Fred didn't exactly help himself...

Beautiful photo. I love how Mary’s skirt is spread out and the elegance of her hat.

That outfit on the duchess of Gloucester is perfect. She is giving Joan Collins a run for her money.

KnickerlessParsons · 09/05/2025 19:30

I’ve met her, and the duke. She was lovely.

SqueakyDinosaur · 09/05/2025 19:53

I think calling her an "unlikely style icon" is very unfair. She has always dressed stylishly. She's Danish - they're a stylish nation. I suppose they probably just mean that she's largely flown under the radar until the recent dearth of senior working royals.

Maireas · 09/05/2025 20:05

Yes, @SqueakyDinosaur , I think she's always been low-key, and not really been particularly prominent, but I think she often looks very stylish and appropriate.

I agree. it seems that the popular press has only recently discovered her, but she has quite a long history of dressing stylishly.
