The next thread, royal style mavens! The title suggestion was from our last thread. Mary of Teck was never knowingly underdressed or less than bejewelled!

Royals looking smart at VE Day. Camilla in royal blue which has a slight air of Maggie thatcher but it’s smart and a lovely colour on her. Kate in purple, looking good. Sophie in pink checks which handily echo the Duke’s uniform cap. Victoria Starmee is there, black hat, white jacket, bit yawn inducing. Princess Anne in uniform, looks like she could run the whole show which of course she could.

nhsmanagersanonymous · 05/05/2025 12:57

It is a rewear, I think it’s more purple. Burgundy would be more red. Gorgeous colour. The kids are there too, boys in jacket and tie and charlotte looks to have a coat over a dress.

nhsmanagersanonymous · 05/05/2025 12:59

Apparently the King’s uniform and that of Princess Anne are reflecting what King George and the late Queen wore on VE Day

Maireas · 05/05/2025 13:38

It's such a nice event. I like the way that the veterans are front and centre and the royals are chatting away to them.

Kids are clearly loving the flypast. Charlotte’s coat is very smart

I was thinking that Princess Anne chose the FANY uniform because it would be the closest equivalent to what her late mother would have been wearing 80 years ago. I was so impressed at how Anne was looking out for the old gentleman sat beside her, even adjusting a blanket around him.

I think the coat Charlotte was wearing today was the same one as Christmas Day. Think the dress underneath was different because today's seemed to have a white frill at the neck which I don't recall seeing at Christmas.

Sorry but I think Sophie’s outfit is awful

OneRareCritic · 05/05/2025 15:41

I am getting worried about the Duke of Kent. He was born about 10 years after the late Queen, but he did look rather fragile today.

I think he turns 90 this year

Yes - I didn't think the pale pink (or was it peach?) gingham check was a good look for her

nhsmanagersanonymous · 05/05/2025 15:51

And then Princess Alexandra is 90 on Christmas Day 2026

nhsmanagersanonymous · 05/05/2025 15:52

Thing to remember with the Duke of Kent is of course he lost his father to a wartime accident on active service. The sacrifice we are marking isn’t theoretical to him.

KiIIingMeDeftly · 05/05/2025 16:14

I wonder if he and Princess Alexandra can remember their father? Prince Michael was just a baby so he won't.

KnickerlessParsons · 05/05/2025 18:06

Kate’s hat is a step up from a headband I suppose, but not a big one. Sophie is wearing a headband-hat ☹️

Other than that, and apart from Charlotte’s too short coat, I think everyone looks lovely.

I’m sure he will, she was only 5 though so probably not too much. Poor Marina, however complicated the marriage was, to be left solo parenting when your youngest is a few weeks old is just awful.

Maireas · 05/05/2025 18:28

I really like the colour and cut of Kate's coat (sorry, a lot of "c" sounds there!). Nice jewellery, I thought she looked elegant.
Anne rocks the military uniform, as ever.

I expect they were hoping for a warmer day and then Charlotte would not have needed a coat. She's probably having a growth spurt . Also we know the royals like to re wear clothes and not waste.

BridgetJonesesOwl · 05/05/2025 19:19

I think everyone looks fabulous today
I can't believe that the Duke of Kent is 90 this year & Princess Alexandra is 90 next year.

It only seems 5 minutes ago they were approaching 70, but that's probably me as it's still the early 2000s in my head 😂

KiIIingMeDeftly · 05/05/2025 22:36

Charlotte's coat looks ok to me. Sophie's dress is a bit fussy.

Apparently Charles was wearing the uniform George VI wore on the balcony on VE Day?

Maireas · 05/05/2025 22:39

I liked the pictures from the tea party at BP. It was a nice opportunity for George to talk to the veterans, like the other royals did. It looked like a happy occasion.

I thought Charlotte's coat looked like the coat of a girl who has got tall and will get one to grow into in September!

I took it to mean the same style /rank of RN uniform without medals. Not the actual uniform his grandfather wore. (which probably stank of tobacco).
