My engagement ring arrived this morning and I'm so in love with it, can I see yours?

I know it's each to his own but my DIL and son have signet rings inscribed with their initials. She hardly ever wore her lovely 3 square stone diamond engagement ring which cost a fortune and hardly ever wears the signet. She's not changed her name, makes me wonder if she really wants to be married.

Some people are not big on jewellery and I would never even have considered discarding my own family name. I have no wish to hide the fact that I'm married but neither do I need a signal of that status to the outside world. I'm not a 'Mrs': what I am, is a loving and committed wife.

I am also more than that.

I tend to take my rings off at home and often end up realising I've gone out without them. I also often take them off for work or volunteering as I deal with people trying to pull themselves out of terrible generational poverty and think it would be obnoxious to be waving a diamond in their faces. I also didn't change my name. Both my mother and my lovely mother-in-law were pleased I didn't change it, I doubt either of them has noticed if/when I wear my rings.

Maybe give your DIL the benefit of the doubt @DiabeticChocolateLover?

This is mine. I have a plain platinum band to go with it (was made to sit with the ring). When I chose this they were not marketing it as an engagement ring, it was the first one he made and it was supposed to be a "dress" ring (whatever that is).

I wear my wedding ring - a plain band - all the time, but rarely wear my other rings.

Working in a school, there was too much danger of snagging them on something. Working in the house or in the garden, there's too much danger of knocking the stones or forgetting to take them off in water.

It doesn't sound like you know it's each to their own.

I haven't taken my engagement ring off in nearly 40 years! Apart from when I had the setting checked over and the ring cleaned.
I wear it in water, there's no reason why you can't.

I do wear gloves for gardening but that's it.

I'm nervous because my original engagement ring didn't even last until the wedding - maybe three months at most.

A stone came off after I wore it with gloves. I had it replaced at the jeweller's and they botched it - the claw was bent over the stone. The store owners later admitted responsibility and it was replaced with a different design. Nevertheless, I've worried about wearing the replacement ever since. I'm a bit more confident with my half-eternity ring, since it's a channel [?] ring and I feel that that's a bit more secure.

Oh, I don't blame you! I've just been lucky!

Mike's a teeny tiny fire opal which looks alight from within.

Nah, I just don't like her. She's done other far worse stuff.

Tarkan · 22/02/2025 14:55

I love opals! There are so many gorgeous rings here.

Mine is an Art Deco diamond cluster from the 1920s. DH actually proposed with his late mother's amethyst eternity ring so we went shopping together afterwards and I fell in love with this from an online antique shop on eBay of all places!

Wow, @Tarkan ! That was my grandmother's ring (well, not that ACTUAL one on your finger!). I've inherited it and absolutely adore it. One stone has fallen out, though, and your post has reminded me that I really must get it mended.

NotaRealHousewife · 24/02/2025 17:57

@BustingBaoBun I'm terrible for taking mine off and then leaving them lying

I just know I'd lose mine so they stay firmly on my hand!

AFeastForCrows · 24/02/2025 18:21

Chosen by DH, the only info I gave him was that sapphires were my favourite.

I love the way it looks with my wedding ring ❤️

Mine was actually my grandmother's - can't beat a big old diamond solitaire imo! The wedding ring is a plain platinum band, DH has a matching one.

Currently looking for a wedding ring which I will wear on my left hand and move engagement ring to my right hand.

Please can I ask if you know where this was from? It's exactly the sort of the thing I am looking for it's gorgeous!

My engagement ring

This is absolutely gorgeous!

TheOliveFinch · 24/02/2025 20:24

@waltzingparrot I love that ring very unusual

Elodie09 · 24/02/2025 20:35

Love this thread , it is so good to see all the beautiful rings.
I won't put mine on as I'm not keen on it .
I am looking for a replacement (ring that is, not husband as I've been married a very long time and he is still a keeper.)
Keep them coming please!

Missingpate · 24/02/2025 20:48

Loving seeing all the beautiful rings!
i still love mine, a simple solitaire in a compass
setting we chose together at the jewellery quarter. The wedding band is a twist, a very narrow band but the engagement ring nestles in it really nicely.
I also absolutely adore late mil’s sapphire ring, and wear it on my other hand.

Engagement, wedding and eternity rings! I personally don't like flashy or coloured stones so my lovely plain rings suit me down to the ground! Didn't cost much either my engagement ring was 230, my wedding ring 54 and my eternity ring about 190 but they're priceless, been married 19 years now and would never take them off or replace them!

Wow that's a beauty! My grandmothers didn't have engagement rings (both married soldiers during the 1st World War). I bet you can't stop looking at it!
