Is there a ‘mum uniform’ where you live?

I was at a play group the other day and noticed that, despite being of varying ages (although mostly 30’s, I’d guess), races and sizes, the mums (including me) were mostly wearing slightly battered Vejas, straight cut jeans, baggy jumpers and some sort of tote (predominantly Mulberry). It’s apparently the uniform in this particular SW London suburb.

Is there a mum ‘uniform’ where you live? If so, what is it?

We have a lot of Schoffel, Fairfax and Favour or Holland and Cooper or work out clothes for mum’s going straight to the gym from drop off. Midi/maxi dresses in the summer, often with trainers. In a rural location on the edge of a Midlands town.

I wish converse would die out, a novelty at first revived from the 80s. The look is getting old now, and doesn't suit anybody over the age of about 20.

wooliegloves · 15/02/2025 16:35

We had a few dry robes a few yrs ago but don't really see them now.

Bridgeu · 15/02/2025 16:36

Rural midlands here!
round here it’s country boots , dry robe and active wear with a Range Rover 😂

although when I lived in a midlands town it was big long puffer coats, active wear and vintage look adidas with a tote bag or just loungewear, slightly more in budget haha

wooliegloves · 15/02/2025 16:37

I wear visible socks with my joggers or cropped jeans, trainer socks look wrong now.

wooliegloves · 15/02/2025 16:37

@somewhereinsuburbia Brighton?

SlowSeasons · 15/02/2025 16:38

Real wool jumpers, tan brogues or those leather gnome like shoes, some form of legging or flowing skirt (depending on whether mum is cycling or not), ancient leather bag probably bought in India or Morocco, walking windproof anorak.
Guess where I live?

Totnes?

CraneBeak · 15/02/2025 16:38

Around me it's black Chelsea boots, straight cut jeans, fluffy white fleece or jumper.

God no, leave the visible over the legging/jeans or whatever socks in the 90s. When I see anybody in those, I cannot help but think about my old trunchbull PE teacher, and shudder 😂

Trainer/ankle socks all the way for me.

wooliegloves · 15/02/2025 16:39

I didn't think Mulberry bags were very popular anymore, they used to be the brand for a bit.

Bridgeu · 15/02/2025 16:42

I look like a mismatched mess, whatever I’ve thrown on in the space of 5 mins most days getting a toddler and two kids reluctantly out the door at 8.30am😅

new balance have been in the rotation for a few years now though and for ages a lot of long black puffer coats

now rural and country boots/ farm equine wear and lots of schofel, fairfax favour

Totnes?

Brighton or somewhere coastal down south , Cornwall maybe?

if not I’d say a hippy or artsy part of London 🇬🇧

Are the long white socks worn over the leggings? I don’t think I’ve seen that look before.

Surburbia here...uniform is... white sports socks over gym leggings, long puffa or dryrobe, nike gym trainers or new balance trainers, messy bun or neat ponytail.

farmergirl15 · 15/02/2025 16:44

I don't even know what veja is/are. Long oversize puffer jackets supa dry type coats, leggings and tight tops seem to be the main, either with or without a full face of make up. And then there's me, I usually wear my popsy dungarees and a fleece.

EducatingArti · 15/02/2025 16:44

I need to see a picture of the gnome like shoes!

EcruCardigan · 15/02/2025 16:48

@somewhereinsuburbia .what are those leather gnome like shoes?

wooliegloves · 15/02/2025 16:50

@NotAlwaysasitSeems I don't wear that...

LlamaDharma · 15/02/2025 16:51

Camouflage Dry robes and UGG boots round here. It's entertaining watching how cool the mums wearing said apparel believe they look. I haven't got the heart to say anything.

wooliegloves · 15/02/2025 16:51

I do wear normal socks, shoeing bare ankles in winter looks odd particularly if the rest is wrapped up.

you can be 90 years old and still look good in a pair of converse. They'll never die

wooliegloves · 15/02/2025 16:52

Converse are always cool

I’m lazy on the school run and wear my new look fake uggs with a mismatched outfit so I can’t complain😂

they’re comfy and easy to slip on and off but I’m fully aware how hideous they can look haha

We will agree to disagree on that one than.
