Mine is silk hair bonnets - total game changer for my frizzy wavy hair!!

I used to wake up with my head looking like a birds nest for it to somehow look even worse after I've brushed it as any curls just turn into frizz.

Another thing thats worked for me is I now only brush my hair just before washing (2-3 times per week) and just use my fingers to detangle the other days when needed

I've recently gotten into curl creams/mouses but still getting the hang of those, still so excited that I now wake up with normal looking hair 😅

are you using

LostInAMist · 16/02/2025 08:16

I don't wear make up and never have done (because I look like a clown when I apply it, as I'm useless!) and have been told a good cc cream would help even out my skin tone (nose is reddening as I approach peri) any recommendations?
My tips, drink lots of water, a bit of mouthwash mixed in with the water in your water flosser for extra freshening (still use proper floss though, it can't get everything), and essie apricot nail and cuticle oil. Smells lovely, and has smoothed all the ragged skin around my nails the come from working outdoors. Apply when you don't need to do anything with your hands for a bit to let it soak in!

Actually plentty of men do do 'this shit' these days. There's loads of male grooming going on in barbers, I've seen mens eyebrow salons - all sorts. They go to the gym and exercise and take care of themselves. They pay attention to how they look and present themselves and buy nice clothes.

I don't have a life changing beauty tip but the things I most swear by for feeling and looking my best are:
Getting eyebrows shaped and tinted
Getting nails manicured and gel for holidays/occasions.
Keeping hair trimmed regularly and balayage twice a year.
Eating well, getting lots of fresh air and exercising regularly.
Taking daily vitamin D, folic acid and B12 supplements.

EllaPaella · 16/02/2025 08:19

I'm definitely going to invest in a silk pillow case after reading this thread.

I love the Erborian CC cream - your skin, just better :)

This combination of thickening shampoo and conditioner from Amazon, it's really changed the texture of my hair. I massage my scalp with it really thoroughly. Yesterday I washed it and noticed that I barely lost a strand, previously I reckon I'd have lost 100 strands per wash, it would be everywhere. 2 months using this, it's my only real change to regime, it's done wonders and my hair just feels so much stronger now.

shampoo

oooo what’s is name of this stuff?

PermanentTemporary · 16/02/2025 08:34

I rarely used a cleanser as I don't often wear makeup, but I do have a couple of nice ones. At 55 my skin is drier obviously. So the other night I just used my Dr Hauschka cleansing milk before moisturising and my skin definitely looked better for it. Then I did put on some makeup yesterday and used Clinique Take the Day Off and god it felt good - I've woken up looking great for me tbh. I might reinvestigate more clinique stuff, I associate them with my 20s but maybe it's time to have another go.

I have PCOS and a Phillips Lumea made me a happier woman, plus saving a lot of shaving time. I would say there were small results that were nearly instant but that it takes months to years to really kick a large area like legs.

PermanentTemporary · 16/02/2025 08:36

Oh and I've really hated some of the heavier night creams, but was upsold the Pai night cream a little while ago which is a really nice lighter texture and doesn't smell like petrol (it shouldn't do at that price).

CaptainFuture · 16/02/2025 08:40

Can you still go into department stores to have your make up done? Feel need a change, still wearing the same colours I did in my 20s, live rurally and it would be well over an hour to travel to one for me so want to make use of the journey!

PermanentTemporary · 16/02/2025 08:44

Yes all of them do it! I prefer keeping it simple at Boots as I like no 7 products, the local Charlotte Tilbury counter looks a bit terrifying tbh. Depends what look you like.

AngelinaFibres · 16/02/2025 08:50

LynetteScavo · 15/02/2025 12:15

Yep, I've done all that.

And BIAB nails are my hack to always feeling like a grown who has their shit together.

I love BIAB nails. They are so beautiful and elegant and virtually indestructible.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 16/02/2025 08:50

@Horses7 the range is called Nature Spell

Wear your correct colours and you’ll look better even in gym clothes.

Had my colours done when I was 18 and I’m now 55! Do you know if your colours change as you age or do you always stay in the same ‘season’?

There are lots of videos on tik tok by make up artists who are over 40/50. Lots of advice on updating your look and doing things in an appropriate ( and beautiful) way . Absolutely brilliant.

This MAC lip colour range
https://www.debenhams.com/product/mac-cosmetics-glow-play-tendertalk-lip-balm_ydd15852?colour=favourite
The tint is lighter than it looks, it has a fantastic scent and is so moisturising. Can easily apply without a mirror

Tretinoin is the only product that I’ve found really makes a difference, I’ve finally got a bit of glow back

Where can I get Tretinoin from?

God I hope this works for me too then!
i've tried everything myself and have resorted to (as you do!) only combing my hair while waiting for my conditioner to do its thing:wet hair (anyone know of a good Leave-in one but with a nice fragrance?). And, no heat at all keeps my curls looking good. Otherwise any sort of heat applied & it's Worzel Gummidge time. I'm really sceptical about these silk bonnets/pillowcases...🤞

I use the Curl Smith products (I have fine curly hair). If on Instagram Curlycast and Curlycooper26 are worth following. Both mature women who are honest and realistic about living with curls.

HairyWorm · 16/02/2025 09:44

Wrist sweatbands to avoid soggy sleeves when washing your face.
Razors with the little clipper/shaver attachment for getting rid of top lip hair and tidying up brows.

BeardofHagrid · 16/02/2025 09:46

I have stopped using brushes to apply face powder and I only use powder puffs now! I watched a YouTube video on how to make your skin look really smooth. She said brushes rough your skin up, whereas powder puffs smooth everything down. My face looks completely different to when I used brushes, it is so smooth! Small thing that makes a big difference!

Simplehuman sensor mirror. Now I am old and have glasses it helps me see properly, plus the light is great.. it's made my make up easier to see and do and better result at end... plus it's so easy to pluck my chin! Honestly a game changer

I agree, my partner bought me this about five years ago (don't know if it was a hint) and it's amazing for people with hairy brows and chins like me. Can get a bit obsessed squeezing my blocked pores in it though.

For dry post menopausal face: slugging with beef tallow twice a week. Has totally changed my skin.
Facial IPL once or twice a year for broken capillaries.

No way am I slugging with beef tallow! ShockGrin

Zone2NorthLondon · 16/02/2025 11:20

silk scrunchie and silk pillow. Tie long hair up before sleep so no all tangled next day

Clarins light fake face tan for healthy glow and no foundation

Olive oil hair treatment. warm up olive oil. Apply to damp unwashed hair. Wrap in towel or shower cap Min an hour ( have left on overnight) and shampoo off. I swear it’s better than any shop bought treatments eg code and eve, elasticizer etc and cheap

lanolin cream on feet overnight (put socks on too)

Wimbledonmum1985 · 16/02/2025 11:23

Love my local Dior counter. I think the Dior foundation is the best I have tried.

For me, it’s highlights every eight weeks, Botox twice a year, regular dental checkups, good skincare routine, gym five times a week, tidy nails etc

And for the miseries at the back, I do all of this for ME. Yes, novel concept I know 🙄

Lowkey28 · 16/02/2025 11:25
