Mine is silk hair bonnets - total game changer for my frizzy wavy hair!!

I used to wake up with my head looking like a birds nest for it to somehow look even worse after I've brushed it as any curls just turn into frizz.

Another thing thats worked for me is I now only brush my hair just before washing (2-3 times per week) and just use my fingers to detangle the other days when needed

I've recently gotten into curl creams/mouses but still getting the hang of those, still so excited that I now wake up with normal looking hair 😅

@comoatoupeira - I've never had my colours done, but have figure it out for myself by holding colours up to my face in changing rooms I think this works, as when I wear the colours that seemed to suit (rather than the usual black/navy and white/cream I usually wear I get lots of compliments.

@TheDevilWearPrimarnie We are freeing ourselves. We're recommending running our fingers through our hair, rather than brushing, and using hemp hand cream, rather than having dry hands. We're not talking boob jobs and veneers although I'm open to pretty much anything right now

I'm huge fan of Aldi Lacura products which are often dupes of high end products. I enjoy using them, at prices I can afford. I'm not expecting miracles or that I might suddenly look pretty, but I enjoy using the products. It feels nice to use certain lotions and lotions, and have plump skin and soft hair, even if no one is dazzled by my beauty.

Tretinoin is the only product that I’ve found really makes a difference, I’ve finally got a bit of glow back

I would love to give tret a go but I've no idea where to start. Any advice? Where to get it from? What strength? When to apply etc? And where about in your Beauty regime?

I also love Lacura skin care at the moment especially the marine range I'm finding it as good as Elemis and blooming love the moisturising essence I can see a difference! I am stockpiling it though I'm already dreading the discontinuation!

@FastFood thanks to you I've just bought the Kerastase serum! So much for a low spend year. However I use their shampoo and conditioner and it is fantastic so I have high hopes of very swishy hair

Purplecatshopaholic · 15/02/2025 23:38

Focusing on having great skin so I wear less actual make up. Ditched foundation for tinted moisturiser - far better now there’s a few wrinkles, lol.

Learn not to put so much importance on appearance, value yourself for who you are and not what beauty standards you feel you have to conform to.

Let go of unreasonable expectations, save money and time.

Do you think men do this shit?

Free yourselves.

I totally disagree with this. Make the best of yourself! Your appearance is the first thing people notice and looking your best will get you far. Nice clothes make me FEEL instantly better. Make-up makes me LOOK a thousand times better.

No men don’t do this shit, they can’t. I feel for them.

Blonzer · 15/02/2025 23:50

Daniel Field watercolour hair dye for tinting grey hair without lifting your natural colour.

Been after something that would dye my grey hairs but wouldn't lift my mid/dark brown hair, turning it ginger. Now have brown hair and the grey is a caramel colour.

MissMoan · 16/02/2025 00:10

Semi-permanent makeup! Brows, eyelids and lips.
It is an investment, but it has been a huge time saver (plus I am useless at applying eyeliner!)

MyCatNamedCookingFat · 16/02/2025 00:18

Beard dye instead of eyelash dye on your brows.

Sonic electric silicone face brush every morning with cleanser, minimum one minute, my skin is super smooth.

AmythestBangle · 16/02/2025 00:23

For dry post menopausal face: slugging with beef tallow twice a week. Has totally changed my skin.
Facial IPL once or twice a year for broken capillaries.

For a super fast subtle fake tan, spritz a dark fake tan in a 360 degree sprayer all over the body in one go and then slather over a deeply scented body cream. The scent kills the biscuit smell and dilutes the dark tan and also spreads it evenly so that it’s subtle sunkissed glow that takes approx 5 minutes to apply.

i keep my under eye patches next to the kettle so that I put them on every morning without thinking about it.

Ditto for rich hand cream next to kitchen sink to wear under gloves when washing up.

Try to only wash hair once a week - curly girl here so easily doable. Saves a lot of time and product.

Before leaving a salon appointment, always book the next one. I go to salons for root touch ups, brow lamination and gel pedicures and feel more polished when all timetabled in.

Wear clear polish with slight tint like Dior Nail Glow so if it chips a little it’s not so obvious. This way I only have to do my nails approx every 5 days.

Keep face gadgets by bed - I have my led face mask, RF wand and Nu Face in my bedside drawers and use them whilst watching YT videos or Netflix in bed at night.

I don't get this. I have to wash my hair after every time I go running, so several times a week. Having curly hair doesn't magically stop me sweating? It still looks greasy and my scalp is still dirty whether the ends are straight or curled.

What do you mean 'this shit?'
Do you think men don't care about what they look like?
The number of men downing protein shakes at my gym would disagree.

Besides which, most of the tips on here are hardly onerous. It's not like everyone is suggesting to start botox at 22. If anything a lot of the tips are advocating doing less - wash hair less, use fewer products.
How is sleeping in a silk cap any harder or more time-intensive then sleeping without it? If anything it saves time the next day.

Using a nice moisturiser is hardly indentured slavery. We don't need 'freeing.'

Audiprettier · 16/02/2025 00:48

God I hope this works for me too then!
i've tried everything myself and have resorted to (as you do!) only combing my hair while waiting for my conditioner to do its thing:wet hair (anyone know of a good Leave-in one but with a nice fragrance?). And, no heat at all keeps my curls looking good. Otherwise any sort of heat applied & it's Worzel Gummidge time. I'm really sceptical about these silk bonnets/pillowcases...🤞

@Crispynoodle try one of the prescription services.
I use Dermatica and honestly, it’s mind blowing, the difference it makes. The customer service is fantastic (I used S&Me and wasn’t impressed with how they dealt when I had an issue but others have a good experience).
They tweak the formula to what you need (I had hydroquinone added to help with pigmentation after my GP recommended it), it comes in a little doser and you use it at night after cleansing, one pump. Super easy.
SPF in the morning is a must.

Aussie Super Serum leave-in, in a shiny blue tube is really good - same as you, tried everything!
Not super expensive and smells fab :)

Powderblue1 · 16/02/2025 06:16

Tretinoin and spf has completely changed my skin!

I have my own lamp and do my own gel nails but I always opt for sheer bulky colours.

Know your colours and which suit you best and try to stick to those.

Wear lighter makeup as you age. I only wear tinted spf rather than foundation.

Powderblue1 · 16/02/2025 06:17

Ooh also I Bligh an air wrap (not fancy branded one just one for £60 on amazon) and my hair is looking great and doesn't need straightening anymore

Second the silk pillowcase. Good for your hair and skin (especially if you’re a front sleeper) and also always lovely and cool. John Lewis organic mulberry silk one is good.

IBloodyLoveMyBlanket · 16/02/2025 07:43

@AmythestBangle do you go to a clinic for the IPL for capillaries or do you have a home machine?

CaptainFuture · 16/02/2025 08:05

Agree! Don't get all the 'free yourself! Don't conform!' Posts.
Basically saying 'women!! Don't do what YOU want, follow MY values or you're woman-ing wrong, clearly everything you do is for the male gaze, you can't have any thoughts of your own'...🙄

Buy absolutely loving this thread, really thankful for all the tips!

Brienneoftarthismyhero · 16/02/2025 08:10

Great thread. Picked up some useful tips already! I will set a timer for face washing - so simple! I use Emma Hardie moringa cleansing balm which I absolutely love. I give my face a mini massage, especially in morning. It smells amazing and feels so good on my face.

My biggest game changer has been my Braun IPL! I swim 4 times a week and used to shave pretty much every 3 days. Now I’m just shaving once or twice a month. I use it on my face too, chin hairs are taking a while but it’s so much better than before and I don’t have to shave or pluck during the week
