Mine is silk hair bonnets - total game changer for my frizzy wavy hair!!

I used to wake up with my head looking like a birds nest for it to somehow look even worse after I've brushed it as any curls just turn into frizz.

Another thing thats worked for me is I now only brush my hair just before washing (2-3 times per week) and just use my fingers to detangle the other days when needed

I've recently gotten into curl creams/mouses but still getting the hang of those, still so excited that I now wake up with normal looking hair 😅

Go through your wardrobe and be honest with yourself about the fit or suitability of your clothing. If it doesn't fit or suit your needs recycle, donate or sell it. I'm not saying that you have to have a capsule wardrobe of tasteful neutrals, just clothing that suits your life.

I refuse to wear black unless absolutely necessary so my wardrobe is full of creams, greens, browns, navy and dark denim with orange and red as accent colours. I don't go to parties so I don't have more than a couple of party dresses, I do walk and cycle a lot so I spend more on decent cycling kit and waterproof clothing. Put your money where you'll get the most wear out of it. There's no point in having a Max Mara coat unless you'll actually use it.

This combination of thickening shampoo and conditioner from Amazon, it's really changed the texture of my hair. I massage my scalp with it really thoroughly. Yesterday I washed it and noticed that I barely lost a strand, previously I reckon I'd have lost 100 strands per wash, it would be everywhere. 2 months using this, it's my only real change to regime, it's done wonders and my hair just feels so much stronger now.

Dressing gown curls! As someone who is a) bad at doing hair and b) short on time they have been life changing

Super easy, no fancy equipment or heat needed and they only take about 2 mins to put in at bedtime. Wake up the next morning looking like you’re fresh out of the salon with a gorgeous blow out!

What are dressing gown curls?

Rina66 · 15/02/2025 12:51

Putting my fake tan on with a brush - especially on hands

Frizz Ease Moisture Barrier hairspray - after styling I mist on my hair does not frizz even in our UK mizzle!

Revamp Volume & Wave hot brush - means I can wash my hair less, straighteners just leave my hair too flat

Heatless curls.

Capsule wardrobe.

Fast drying nail varnish.

Bloop1986 · 15/02/2025 13:25

Buying a uv light and doing my nails myself using hema free nail polish! Got nail stickers on amazon so i can still have nice designs on them!

One for those of us on HRT, I pluck my neck and chin and jaw BEFORE I put my contacts in. It's much easier to see up close.

Also hold a light underneath your chin. Then you see the really hoary black spikey ones that are so satisfying to pluck.

What do you mean, HRT causes chin hairs?? Yet another thing I have to look forward to...!

Well no, not causes, ramps it all up! I started getting very hairy on my jaw line as hormones started changing in late 30s. Adding testosterone has definitely made them more prolific.

At some point I might consider lasering but I don't fancy letting them grow first...!

Rina66 · 15/02/2025 18:26

I think it's more the lack of estrogen that makes you the beardy weirdy - it makes your testosterone more dominant.

DollopOfFun · 15/02/2025 18:29

My spiky hairs aren't black unfortunately. If they were, I would IPL the shit out of them.

I know people rave about silk bonnets, and I have curly hair so probably should try one. But I simply can’t imagine going to bed wearing one with my husband beside me. It’s redolent of the curlers and cold cream of my grandma’s generation. 😂

My husband knows when the silk bonnet is on there is no chance of anything exciting happening, I call it the husband reppeller 😁 worth it though, being able to whip it off, brush my hair and it looks good straight away is amazing

Perhaps try a silk pillowcase instead. I prefer it to a silk bonnet.

Yes, good idea. Any recommendations?

I’ve been happy with my pillowcases from Boucleme and M&S. it’s good for your face to sleep on silk.

ShatnerssBasoon · 15/02/2025 19:36

Simplehuman sensor mirror. Now I am old and have glasses it helps me see properly, plus the light is great.. it's made my make up easier to see and do and better result at end... plus it's so easy to pluck my chin! Honestly a game changer

I’m an influencer’s dream as I’ve just ordered 2 from M&S.

wax kit £25 on Amazon and wax and trim your own eyebrows and face (very carefully)-honestly saves you so much!

when you buy new shoes, ask the shop assistant what they recommend to clean and protect them and how often (clarks really good at helping on that). Keeps shoes looking fresher for longer and means you don’t have to keep buying new ones.

Drink coffee with a straw to prevent teeth staining.

satin tape floss works better than regular or tooth pick floss.

when rubbing in face wash, set a 1m timer and rub it in for that long. Makes sure you get everything off.

use a plain soap to clean then a scented one that you let sink into your skin for a few mins before rinsing off.

use a (clean) nit comb to exfoliate the scalp before a hair wash if your prone to dandruff

Learn not to put so much importance on appearance, value yourself for who you are and not what beauty standards you feel you have to conform to.

Let go of unreasonable expectations, save money and time.

Do you think men do this shit?

Free yourselves.

You're deluded if you think 'men don't do this shit.' My ds uses more products than I do!

I should be on commission…

Hope you like them. I’ll feel terrible if you don’t. Just make sure you’re careful about washing them.

ComtesseDeSpair · 15/02/2025 19:49

I stopped using any products beyond a gentle makeup remover, day and night moisturiser, and plain soap to wash my body. Previously I used all kinds of cleaners and toners, eye creams, primers, shampoo, conditioner, hair serums and styling products, body washes etc. My skin and hair look fantastic nowadays, so much brighter, even and more radiant, no blackheads or occasional breakouts, and no greasy hair. Plus the money I’ve saved has been mind blowing.

It started during the first lockdown, when I wasn’t going into the office so gave up washing and styling my hair everyday and wasn’t applying makeup so my usual skincare routine just slipped. Within a few weeks I realised that it was an absolute benefit.

Couldn't get on with mine at all, my face kept sliding off them and they feel horrible after a couple of hours anyway. No idea how anyone manages to sleep on them.

Frizz Ease Moisture Barrier hairspray - after styling I mist on my hair does not frizz even in our UK mizzle!

Revamp Volume & Wave hot brush - means I can wash my hair less, straighteners just leave my hair too flat

I must be doing something wrong as my hair still looks as badly frizzy after using the frizz ease and flyaways completely untamed.
