Here’s a new thread!

I hope you find something @TosstTastic - I liked what I saw on the Me + Em site - I am now wondering what their sales are like!

My only sale order was the totally unnecessary blue cashmere/wool snood - it’s not here yet, (although I ordered Thursday early pm). I am not terribly hopeful- those slits seem weird.

I am hoping the ‘real’ summer sale will be more exciting!

ScottishMouse · 24/03/2025 14:05

I tried that snood in store @IlovePond and really liked it, but didn't need it. The slits mean you can wear it both ways around - hard to describe but you will see when it arrives. It’s cute!

faustina · 24/03/2025 14:06

@IlovePond I had that snood - the slits were nice actually, and if you wore it a certain way they made a collar. It went to Vinted in the end because it was too high necked for me, but I hope it works for you!

ScottishMouse · 24/03/2025 15:29

My sale order just arrived and is all going back.
The quilted long gown is a bit meh. Colour not as good as I thought it would be, and very straight up and down. The tie is also a bit small and mean.
The wrap cardigan is for someone with less bust and less belly than me. The ties are very thick and just emphasise all the wrong parts of me.
The wool recycled cashmere sweater is nice enough. Definitely not worth full price. The navy is a bit lighter than I had hoped for, and it is also definitely a winter weight rather than spring or autumn which I had hoped for. I know from experience that I don’t do well when I buy out of season, if I’m not going to wear it now I can’t be sure it will be what I want come next winter.

IlovePond · 24/03/2025 16:25

Thanks @ScottishMouse and @faustina - I am awaiting its arrival with interest.

This mini sale was a bit of a non event for me - I certainly couldn’t bring myself to pay £235 for the only thing I was REALLY interested in trying - the green flecked jumper.

I have just been having a look at the new arrivals on the Toast website. Prices are climbing ever higher - I like a couple of the new T-shirts but £95 for one? Just no!

@TosstTastic I also wore Me & Em then , it had a tiny well coordinated collection and it was so easy to shop and dress well . I don’t much like the label now, just too many tabs, buttons and frills .

As ever really enjoying hearing about Sale hits and misses.
I love the SpaceDyed Tank knitted tank, (I sized up based on reviews) it looks good with pale blue oversized Cos shirt and ready for Spring.
The cotton linen jacket in Fallow ( better Tallow as colour is just liked old candles) is a good shape despite looking enormous out of the package . However the weird yellowish colour isn’t for me .
Also sending back Minako check trousers, way too short, and the Rowan wool sweater , too similar to one I have though it’s a fine piece and I may rebuy if it’s ever cheaper )

mizu · 24/03/2025 16:56

Sorry to hear the twill dress wasn’t for you @TosstTastic

OrangeyLemon · 24/03/2025 19:08

My orange marl Uruguayan hand-made jumper has arrived. It’s beautiful and a nice roomy shape- I sized down but am wondering if I should have embraced the over-sized look, but I’m not sure I could have carried it off. It’s by far the most expensive jumper I’ve ever bought (although goodness knows how much I spent on Rowan yarns when I used to knit), so dithering slightly, however I’m in my sixties now. If I’m not going to spoil myself now, when will I?

Stravaig · 24/03/2025 19:21

@OrangeyLemon I didn't see how much it costs, however, on the side of talking yourself into it, if you price up the retail cost to buy the yarn here, then add at least the Living Wage for the hours spent knitting it up, not forgetting planning, tweaking, rip and reworking, sewing up and finishing — then my guess is even Toast prices might seem a bargain! Or at least comparable.

Another with a large yarn bill in years gone by :)

IlovePond · 24/03/2025 19:28

I like that jumper too @OrangeyLemon - but it was far too short on me. How are you finding it lengthwise?

@faustina and @ScottishMouse - you were both right and that snood is going straight back. It looked awful with the square bit at the front/back and was ridiculously high in the neck if wearing as a ‘collar’. I tried rolling it down but that looked odd at the back and showed the label.

It’s the sort of thing I’d take a chance on if it was a tenner in a sample sale, and then wonder what the heck I was going to do with it!

Lovely and soft, though. I think it would suit taller people with super long necks, rather than someone short like me with a small head!

This has been my first ever no-spend sale since I started buying Toast clothes five/six years ago. I came close last winter sale with just one unnecessary nightshirt,(and I think there might have been a bauble 😹), but this time I have really done it. If future sales don’t improve, I don’t think I will be buying much from now on😿

OP posts:
Countmeout · 24/03/2025 21:35

All I have bought was a basket and the wallet both of which have reached home before me.

Agree about the poplin top @TosstTastic . I ordered the red in it to try and liven things but the scrub vibe is sadly true.

One hit I have been pleased with is the over dyed Kantha jacket which I picked up on an early morning peruse of reworn. It was great value and fortunately the resultant dying works with my wardrobe.

OrangeyLemon · 24/03/2025 22:05

I love your reasoning @Stravaig! 💕 The jumper falls at my hip @IlovePond I quite like the length. I hope Toast do tempt you again in the future. I think having a small head sounds appealing! I find it hard to get hats to fit, although I wear my hair up and that doesn’t help. I’d love to be able to carry off a beret!

OrangeyLemon · 25/03/2025 09:00

I mean I hope Toast do tempt you again @IlovePond as I enjoy reading about your shopping adventures! Perhaps this chat could be for Toast alumni too : )

IlovePond · 25/03/2025 09:30

Thanks so much @OrangeyLemon ! I am sure I will be back to Toast - just not at full price! That jumper is lovely- I should probably have tried it on in store.

Re: Berets

I used to wear my Toast woolly hats tilted on the side of my head. When I tried the green/black striped beret on at KC, the assistant told me to push it flat onto the back of my head. It was an absolute game changer! I cannot stress how much better it looked than the ridiculous way it’s perched on the model on the website.

I now wear all my Toast hats this way and they look great.

I do like those new linen bandanas, the orange linen buttoned top and the striped cotton top. Fingers crossed for an appearance in a sale at some point!

Thought I’d pop on and do a quick denim culottes review, as I did cave in and buy them in the end and I remember that others were considering them…

I really like them and have already worn them a lot. I mostly wear skirts and dresses, as they are more comfortable and flattering on my shape, but have found the culottes to be a good trousers option. There is a lot of fabric to contend with and I had a couple of sticky moments going upstairs when I was still getting used to them.

Feel very stylish in them - think they are one of those items that instantly elevate an outfit.

Fabric is not a stiff denim, but it’s also not a soft cotton - somewhere in between, suspect it will get softer with washing.

Overall I am really pleased and think they will be a wardrobe staple for me. Probably true to size. I’m generally a 14 in skirts and trousers and the 14 is a good fit (pear shaped) - I’m 5ft 6in and the leg length is that slightly short sailor length on me (which I like).

Should also say that my dh, who often takes the piss (recent examples: red dungarees = super mario; backless dress with ties = hospital gown…) and doesn’t tend to say much if something looks nice (yes, I know it makes him sound like a wanker, but he does show his love in other ways) commented positively on them, saying how cool they look and that they are quite a special item.

I’ve ordered way too much recently - my sales bits are yet to arrive (delayed delivery as I’m away this week) but am also waiting on the green cotton skirt, navy crinkle cotton skirt ace workwear denim jacket.

ScottishMouse · 26/03/2025 12:06

Just returned my sale items to store and they said there is a drop coming next week with lots of summer dresses. The constant drops is a bit much I feel, I wish they would just do the whole season’s collection in one or two drops.

Countmeout · 26/03/2025 12:45

Have to agree @ScottishMouse . It makes planning difficult. On the other hand I suppose it means you may be constantly temped by something. Which is good from their point of view.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 26/03/2025 13:24

Thanks @ScottishMouse I thought the dress section was a bit dull and could do with a boost - mind you I haven’t worn some of my summer buys from last year 🙄.

Gonegrey31 · 26/03/2025 13:54

if it should come back into stock, I really recommend the pleated Floating Print dress, my only Toast purchase for some time. 100% cotton (for once) and such a flattering fit and shape. Lovely soft colours too.
Having paid full price for it, I hope there aren't other dresses to tempt me, but I agree it is frustrating to have these constant drops. I like to plan my wardrobe for the coming seasons.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 26/03/2025 14:59

@Gonegrey31 I really like the shape of that dress but it's not my colours. I was hoping they would do that style again in a different colour.

IlovePond · 26/03/2025 17:09

I hope you are all sitting down…

Toast have come good and announced their KC sample sale in a timely fashion. It’s Friday 11/4 to Sunday 13/4:

https://www.toa.st/pages/events

KC staff told me it would probably be before Easter as it’s so late this year, and so it has proved.

I was fully expecting a last minute announcement, so I am happy to be wrong.

Off for a lie down to get over the excitement 😹

In another apparent first: ’Stock will be replenished throughout the weekend’.

OP posts:
mizu · 26/03/2025 21:18

@IlovePondooh nice to know. Now, I finish teaching on the Thursday and have a development day on the Friday (4 of the team only as most are part time) so I would need to somehow get out of that or risk going on the Saturday if they are indeed replenishing! 🤔

IlovePond · 26/03/2025 22:12

It’s hard to know, isn’t it @mizu? We are in unknown territory - being spoilt with both advance notice and indications of restocking 😹

I know in the last sample sale they didn’t restock - there was virtually nothing left by the time I got there early afternoon, (but there wasn’t much to start with). By contrast, there was a lot of stock in the April sale and I think a few new bits appeared the next day.

OP posts:
IlovePond · 26/03/2025 22:13

@mizu - I will be going on the Friday, so I will ask if there will be any meaningful restocking over the weekend.
