Quilted jackets have been a thing for a good few years now. The fact it's in a high street store means at high saturation point. This is usually a sign a particular trend cycle is coming to its end, particularly in terms of how on trend it is. However, that said, these kinds of jackets will be around for a good while yet, so it will be a good purchase and something you can wear indefinitely. The only thing that will date is the colour and cut.

Cremeeggtime · 07/02/2025 09:18

I like the black and white one m&s have more, it closes at the front which seems more practical too.

henlake7 · 07/02/2025 12:25

Yes, def got a few more years in this trend. They seem to be appearing in all the shops summer ranges now.
I bought a lovely Monsoon one from Vinted last year, actually got wolf whistled once when I wore it with wide legged jeans and a vest top !😳

Wallabyone · 07/02/2025 12:40

I've had mine (from Hush) for a couple years now. They are a great spring piece, and they do seem to be everywhere now.

ginasevern · 07/02/2025 13:05

I had one almost identical to that in 1975 (they were fashionable then). Wish I'd kept it.

ThatJadeBeaker · 07/02/2025 13:20

Maybe they’re going for TOAST vibes with this one. I don’t think it would be my personal style but I don’t dislike them. Just go for what you actually want to wear.

Yes I had one late 70s as a young teenager 😆

I’ve never bought Toast as it’s over my price range but I looked online and yes it gives those vibes .
I am casual most of the time and practical too

I looked like I was wearing nans bed jacket. However, I do have a comedy size chest on a small frame so lean into frump more easily than your average woman

Strawberryorangejuice · 07/02/2025 14:56

My mum has one and she's in her 80s (very fashionable) and I have one (40). A lot of other school mums have them as well here. Not sure if that helps you. 😊

Parratha · 07/02/2025 14:57

I agree with your daughter OP.

Badlands1 · 07/02/2025 15:01

These slightly frumpy items always look great on skinny 18 year olds but less so on older women ( I'm firmly in that category myself) so would be a hard no from me.

Daft question perhaps, but how can you identify trends before they've reached the end of a cycle? I'm very rural, and whenever I go to a city, there is so much variety I just can't tell whats going on.

Me too! I loved that jacket. I bought it from a market stall with money from my first Saturday job, happy days

Ilovemyshed · 07/02/2025 15:21

Just goes to show there is nothing nee in the fashion world!

FoolishHips · 07/02/2025 15:30

It isn't the most flattering item. I don't think it makes good financial sense to waste all that money on this jacket when you could find something much nicer from a charity shop or Vinted. But I'm probably not the person to ask because I haven't changed my style since the early 90s and don't intend to.

canyouletthedogoutplease · 07/02/2025 16:03

Zara have been doing these in different prints for a few seasons, and they're currently everywhere. I've got a couple and they're handy for spring, or for winter layered under a bigger coat over a fine knit.

SiobhanSharpe · 07/02/2025 16:33

I have just returned from Spain where it seems at least every second man, woman or child was wearing a quilted jacket, or gilet.
Perhaps the style has reached saturation point.
I can't recall any busy printed patterns though. Thank heavens.

I'm sure there was an early 90s maybe late 80s. Trend for them because I had 1 I'm sure I got it in C&A

I’m also semi rural and like a confused meerkat in any clothing store

Not terribly keen on it. It's described as "over sized" but it isn't. It doesn't look practical as a jacket and wouldn't replace a raincoat or even a denim jacket. It's more an indoors jacket , in the same way a cardigan is, or outdoors only in warmer weather.

I prefer the shape and colour of this , which looks like a jacket.

That's exactly what DH and I said when we saw it in the store the other day.
