What is your dream bag?

I've had an unexpected bonus at work and would like to spend it on a designer bag. I've never treated myself to anything like this and it will be a once-in-my-lifetime purchase.

I've a couple of ideas but would love some inspiration. Mulberry Lily is top of my list currently.

What is your dream bag that you would use for years to come?

What’s your budget? (Incidentally, I have a Mulberry Lily and recommend it, it’s a great bag.) If money was not an object I’d probably treat myself to a classic Chanel.

Isabelle70 · 01/02/2025 14:12

What type of bags do you use now and like to wear? I would get that style in a luxury brand.
I would really like a Chanel mini flap but they are rather hard to come by at the moment in standard colours.

DidSomeoneTrump · 01/02/2025 14:13

A mulberry of some description.

buybuysellsell · 01/02/2025 18:49

Oh some beautiful bags here, thank you! I'll take a close look now.

Budget I think up to £1500. I know that's a lot to blow on one thing but I've been to hell and back at work over the last year and I have always, always wanted a really beautiful bag so this will be a huge treat.

Any thoughts on what kind of leather "wears" best? I had a lovely smooth leather bag once and it got ruined and scratched within days!

I commute with a laptop so my most used bag is an M&S rucksack! Separately to work days, I probably use a cross body bag the most - one that can fit a kindle.

I'd go for this op.

The regular Lily is really versatile size wise. Great for evening or day time if you travel light.

Glossy goat is also super hard wearing.

Lily

Shop the Lily in Black Glossy Goat at mulberry.com, The Lily is an effortlessly elegant style often chosen as an evening bag due to its versatile size and compact shape.

Thank you @Alifemadelessordinary that is the bag I've been looking at for years! Maybe this is a sign Smile

For crossbody I would go for a Mulberry mini Alexa, Antony, Lily or Amberley. Not sure a kindle would fit in the Amberley though.

Alifemadelessordinary · 01/02/2025 19:39

I don't think you can go wrong with a Lily.

It's beautiful and if I was to really treat myself it would have to be a special occasion bag.

If you did want to go more casual the Mini Alexa a PP suggested would be a good way to go.
I've had an Amberley and sold it as I'll be honest I find it a bit too structured. The Anthony is too casual in its style for me but if you like it they are adored.

I will say I've bought a Small Iris recently and it's such an amazing bag. But it really depends what you want from it 😊
Good luck choosing, what a lovely dilemma to have.

I love Mulberry too OP. Have bought bags new over 30 years but also picked up great bargains on Mulberry resale/preloved sites. A beautiful tan Bayswater last month for £250!

Chuchoter · 01/02/2025 20:02

YSL Le 37 small size in black.

buybuysellsell · 01/02/2025 20:21

Wow that is a stunning bag @Chuchoter

What a bargain! It sounds like they have good resell value (she says trying to rationalise the purchase)

I have a large Chanel classic flap bag which I bought almost 20 years ago for a lot less than it's sold for now and I'm too scared to use it! If money was no object then a birkin but I also love the latest celine bags. I love handbags and before having my dc would always treat myself but I just can't justify it now.

SlapTheMelon · 02/02/2025 07:28

Loewe puzzle bag.

I have a Lily, I do love it but ruined mine a bit when I used it in heavy rain. Make sure you polish it with leather treatment before you use it.

I think the Chanel minis are easier to come by now than they were a few years ago. The price increases have seen to that!

Pollyanna87 · 02/02/2025 16:50

My Mulberry Alexa in classic/medium size is my favourite everyday bag. I have the mini and the oversized ones too and I love them but they’re just not the right size for everyday wear.

Isabelle70 · 02/02/2025 20:02

@Pollyanna87 when I was in London in December they only had 2 shades of orange so I declined 🤣

CharlotteCChapel · 02/02/2025 20:06

Mine would be kipling bag. I've watched far too many videos where designer bags are deconstructed and for the leather and work come up for less than £500 yet are for sale in the mid thousands. Basically you're being scammed. He deconstructed mulberry yesterday and thoughy it as OK for the money.

I love Mulberry and still have an oak Bayswater from the launch collection in the early 2000s. They age beautifully.

Ive just had a look on their site and the Iris, Lana and Soft Bayswater are beautiful, but this little one is another level

I would love a small version of the Andiamo. I have a medium but really want the small too.

Powderblue1 · 02/02/2025 21:03

A classic black quilted Chanel but the one I want is £8k and just can't justify it or afford it either!
