What is your dream bag?

I've had an unexpected bonus at work and would like to spend it on a designer bag. I've never treated myself to anything like this and it will be a once-in-my-lifetime purchase.

I've a couple of ideas but would love some inspiration. Mulberry Lily is top of my list currently.

What is your dream bag that you would use for years to come?

My dream bags are an Hermes Halzan and a huge Bottega Veneta Intreccito (which I’d use as a beach bag).

kiana2015 · 02/02/2025 21:21

Classic Chanel

WeightLossGoal2024 · 02/02/2025 22:56

Dream bag would be a Chanel Classic

I use a Gucci Marmont as my everyday bag. Mulberry Bayswater when I need to carry lots of things. Love my Mulberry Medium Lilly as it's dressier but small and lightweight.

buybuysellsell · 03/02/2025 11:06

Gosh there are some beautiful bags out there. The Andiamo is new to me - what a beauty!

Chanel is way out of my price range, alas, but they are gorgeous. I think I'd be worried about it getting nicked off my arm!

What are people's thoughts on the Lily versus Alexa? I am wondering if the Alexa might be a more practical choice for me as they seem slightly harder-wearing than the Lily and I remember wanting one desperately about 15 years ago. Not sure if they are still cool (?) not that it really matters but is it timeless as I hope?

Oh OP, it is so dangerous starting or reading threads like this.

A few months ago I had not heard of the Loewe Flamenco, but now I am trying (and mainly failing!) to save up for one!

I have an ancient Alexa and a new Alexa mini.

I love them both. My old Alexa is really soft, floppy leather and looks, ahem, well-worn-in but is still gorgeous.

The mini actually holds pretty much all the stuff I would usually put in the standard Alexa! It's surprisingly roomy.

BoysBagsShoes · 03/02/2025 12:51

OP, might be worth you going somewhere like Bicester Village, if you can. Lots of designer/high end shops with lovely bags at good prices. I picked up a fab mini Alexa last year for half the price it would’ve been in store. I was expecting to see the styles/ colours that no one really wanted, but was pleasantly surprised at the range and variety of stock.

SlapTheMelon · 03/02/2025 13:36

I have both Lily and Alexa, both medium/normal sizes. Lily is practical and classic but I love Alexa look though t's quite heavy, if I were to get it again I'd get it in mini.

Newposter180 · 03/02/2025 16:28

I think the Mulberry Lily and Alexa are both a little dated but they have some lovely designs in the new collection. I generally find them hard wearing. I have an Amberley and consider it pretty casual but probably wouldn’t recommend as it doesn’t hold much and the shape makes it a pain to get things out.
I don’t really agree with the “scam” comment above - some designer bags are crazy prices but things are worth more than the sum of their parts; you’re not just paying for the actual leather and labour to make it but for the design.

Newposter180 · 03/02/2025 16:31

Forgot to add for me dream bag if it was one to suit all occasions and last forever would definitely be the Celine Classique Triomphe.

Verite1 · 03/02/2025 17:11

I've got a Lily and hardly use it - I'm not that keen on the strap. My favourite bags are Bottega Veneta - I have a couple and just love them. Classic bags, look gorgeous, will never date. Loewe puzzle bags also nice, though a bit of a cliche now. Maybe the Loewe Flamenco instead?

Puppymom · 03/02/2025 21:30

I own my two dream bags. The Loewe puzzle and small size The Row banana bag. Recommend both x

Fluff111 · 03/02/2025 21:35

Too many fakes of the classic Chanel flap around to ever consider buying one now. Ten a penny on a night out in the city these days. Have you looked at Aspinal OP as an option? Or Demellier or Strathberry?

buybuysellsell · 03/02/2025 22:52

Thank you for all these suggestions. I am checking them out!

I'm familiar with Strathberry but Demellier is new to me. Bottega Venega are gorgeous although I think I've seen a few high street dupes of these.

The Loewe Puzzle is really turning my head. It's absolutely gorgeous. More than I'd expected to spend but I am definitely going to go and have a look at one in person.

Oh god I've just googled the Loewe Flamenco😍 I do actually have money in savings but it should be going to house repairs and a new boiler.... 😭

RockaLock · 04/02/2025 11:38

Oh, I'm so sorry @Starlight1984

Still, it'll be summer soon - who needs heating Grin

buybuysellsell · 01/03/2025 07:33

Just to update the thread... I ended up buying the Mulberry Lily in linen green with gold hardware. I went for it because it is such a classic and practical bag, one that I've always wanted, but in a modern colour that makes it feel current and not too "safe".

And I absolutely love it! Thank you for all the inspiration!

It was a mulberry Bayswater 15 years ago & I got one but it's so heavy to carry I hardly use it!

Ihopeyouhavent · 01/03/2025 14:10

Have you looked at https://www.npnbags.co.uk/

I bought a few bags from Shian over the years and they have all been amazing!

I agree with you! OMG! Its beautiful!!!

Isabelle70 · 01/03/2025 17:55

@buybuysellsell such a nice bag and a great colour. It's always best to get what you really want, enjoy 😄

lateSeptember1964 · 01/03/2025 19:44

Loewe puzzle bag is in my wish list. I have several Mulberry’s and never regretted buying them. I recently bought the Islington bucket which I love

Mrscharlieeeee · 01/03/2025 20:05

I also bought my dream bag with a bonus, I went for the YSL Niki in black with silver hardware. It is holding up really well as it's more of a shiny/patent textured leather. Avoid lamb skin leather as this is notoriously soft. I have a micro and full size Bayswater that are lasting well and two Fendi Baguettes from the early 2000's that still look great. If I had a spare few grand today I'd probably buy a Chanel backpack, the one with the mixed metal hardware.

Ireolu · 01/03/2025 20:33

My dream bag was a chanel classic flap. I got it about 10 yrs ago and I don't really use it now. Feels off carrying a bag they now sell for 9.5k as an everyday bag.

DH surprised me with a boyy wonton 20 in early Feb. He knew I was undecided so took a chance I would love it in person. Absolutely blown away by it and have had lots of compliments.

Mine would be kipling bag. I've watched far too many videos where designer bags are deconstructed and for the leather and work come up for less than £500 yet are for sale in the mid thousands. Basically you're being scammed. He deconstructed mulberry yesterday and thoughy it as OK for the money.

No one is forcing you to buy. 🤷‍♀️ I'd stick with your Kipling bag. 😂😂😂 Which will probably fetch about £20 if you ever decide to resell it. 👍
