What is your one transformative WOW beauty product that you found in 2024?

For me it was a product I didn’t want to like as it’s very pricey and I had thought over the years it was just a gimmick. Plus I had a really good skincare routine before I started using them (essence, HA serum, vit C, peptide cream, SPF, tretinoin, acid actives etc) and I didn’t really see that I could get much more positive effect than with what I was already using.
But wow, these little capsules (god they’re fiddly and annoying) of Elizabeth Arden Advanced Ceramide oil/serum have massively improved my skin just adding it in as an additional layer after my other serums and before my peptide cream. My crepey under eye skin has completely smoothed out and fine lines on my forehead have gone. My skin tone looks more even and skin looks plumper definitely. I’m also less oily throughout the day. I’m gobsmacked given that it’s such a small amount in the capsule.
Only downside is now I have to find the money to include them in my routine ongoing!

What have you found recently that has been an absolute game changer?

Something that's not meant to be used as a beauty product, but I've had incredible results this year using Lanacane anti-chafing gel as a primer! I saw it recommended by somebody on here who said it had similar ingredients to the discontinued Smashbox primer from a few years ago. Honestly, Lanacane is incredible. Hides pores, goes on so smoothly, and makes my make up look incredible and last all day. Game changer!

@JMAngel1 - pleas can I ask where you put the capsules in your night routine - before or after tret? Thanks v much

I’ve switched to only using it in the morning now to make one capsule last 2 days but when I was using it a night, I did my essence, then EA capsule then tretinoin then Weleda skin food to buffer. Then I put an Aromatherapy Associates oil over the top. So I don’t really need it at night as have a very hydrating routine then anyway to buffer the tret. I’ll save it for the mornings only.

How quickly did you notice a difference with them, OP?

Pretty much straight away - immediate smoothing out of skin particularly under eyes. And a plumpness- also not as oily anymore but feels “moist” throughout the day. I don’t get that “dead withered” look at the end of a tough work day anymore - my face is fresh at 7pm and I’m 52! So straight away in terms of results.

YSL blur primer. It’s gel like in texture and smooths my skin amazingly.

On the hair oil front I use Goldwell oil, I’ve used it for years, it’s about £20 a bottle but I only buy 2 a year and I use it every day. My hair is soft and shiny and in excellent condition which considering I wash, dry and straighten it everyday is a minor miracle!

Sticking a bit of plaster over my 11s overnight instead of botox! I no longer have botox done and my 11s are back with a vengeance. I didn't have high hopes but it works a treat. I stretch the skin out a bit, apply the bit of plaster and in the morning, the 11s are gone!! They gradually reappear again over the course of the day but are nowhere near as pronounced.

What sort of plasters? Please can you tell me more as my between the eyes lines are so deep!

MuchasSmoochas · 24/01/2025 19:52

Please don’t gatekeep the collagen, can we have details 🙏
Mine is the K18 mask. Got it in an advent calendar Christmas 23, used it and thought meh. I have very frizzy hair. Then my hairdresser told me I was using it wrong, I applied it after conditioner but you are meant to do it before or not use conditioner. What a difference, people keep asking me if I’ve had a blow out. Do not buy it full price, there’s loads on Vinted as it’s an advent calendar staple/

CaraCameleon · 24/01/2025 19:52

Which capsules are we talking about here? The eye capsules or the general ones?

CaraCameleon · 24/01/2025 20:07

Also can anyone recommend a booster and loose powder that doesn’t contain talc or other nasties?

XiCi · 24/01/2025 20:12

I alternate between these two, whichever is cheapest on Amazon when I need it. A tub lasts 2-3 months and I put 1-2 tablespoons in my cafetiere every morning with my coffee. Its tasteless.

They're called Frownies. They're surprisingly effective

dollymixedup · 24/01/2025 20:22

@mouldygarlic

Atopic, contact (lots of sensitivities), nummular (discoid dermatitis) and lichen / neurodermatitis, not quite the full set🤣 different types in different places and or at different times. Mine is definitely hormone related and probably ties in with hyperthyroidism/graves disease.

Skin sense reinforcing vitamin complex. I didn’t realise how much difference it makes to my skin until I ran out. Would never be without it now.

A collagen supplement

I run and was taking it to help recovery but my hair is lush and shiny and my nails have never been so strong.

Where from please?

You can buy frownies but they're quite expensive. Fabric sticking plaster does the exact same thing. Just cut a small square off. Small enough to fit between your eyebrows. I then pull the skin taut and stick the plaster on and leave on overnight. It doesn't totally eradicate the line but it's about a 90% improvement, which is pretty good. I put the plaster square on so it makes a diamond shape, which seems to work better.

Bignanna · 24/01/2025 21:11

Some seem to be just micropore tape which would work out very cheap. Just be careful you keep the area flat and don’t create another wrinkle when applying.

AngelinaFibres · 24/01/2025 21:28

Lisa Eldridge skin tint (T8 in my case. Bought from SpaceNK ) . Its around £33 a bottle but it lasts 4 months. Its amazing. Im lucky because my skin is spot free and I have no acne scarring but I'm 59 and I do have some hyper pigmentation which started after HRT. I look so well and so 'put together' when I wear it. It's light enough to wear everyday and a supermarket face wash product takes it all away. Its never cause irritation or spots Its absolutely brilliant.

AngelinaFibres · 24/01/2025 21:36

Tik tok videos on how to do make up properly when you're over 50. I've never really had any idea how to do make up. These videos are absolutely transformative. I'm 59. I've never looked so 'polished ' and I've never felt so fabulous.

Tear trough filler has changed my life.
Also hourglass concealer, worth every penny.
(Yes I'm a tired, working mum)

WhereAreWeNow · 24/01/2025 22:01

Oh no, I've succumbed to the EA capsule hype now! It was the bit about sorting out crepey undereyes that got me. You should be on commission OP!

Which Hourglass concealer do you use? Thanks.

Makeup by Mario bronzing range - I have the liquid serum bronzer, the sculpting stick and the cream bronzer. Couldn't choose between them as they're all incredible.
