For me it was a product I didn’t want to like as it’s very pricey and I had thought over the years it was just a gimmick. Plus I had a really good skincare routine before I started using them (essence, HA serum, vit C, peptide cream, SPF, tretinoin, acid actives etc) and I didn’t really see that I could get much more positive effect than with what I was already using.
But wow, these little capsules (god they’re fiddly and annoying) of Elizabeth Arden Advanced Ceramide oil/serum have massively improved my skin just adding it in as an additional layer after my other serums and before my peptide cream. My crepey under eye skin has completely smoothed out and fine lines on my forehead have gone. My skin tone looks more even and skin looks plumper definitely. I’m also less oily throughout the day. I’m gobsmacked given that it’s such a small amount in the capsule.
Only downside is now I have to find the money to include them in my routine ongoing!

What have you found recently that has been an absolute game changer?

A cheap one from me -The Ordinary 5% face and body moisturiser - but for my hands. I'm in my 50 sand very fair and despite suncream on them my hand freckles started to look like horrible age spots and my hands were getting a bit wrinkly. This stuff is the only thing that has made a big difference. I have tried all sorts of expensive lotions and potions.

Of PP's suggestions I'd agree collagen definitely helps and I have used face tape on my 11s for years - only takes a few months. Need to keep it up every second night though.

Just plasters or special tape?

I'm surprised for the love for VB eyeliner as it's the worst eyeliner I've ever tried, and I've tried a lot of them! Smudges all down your face in minutes. I thought I'd just use it for tightlining but even then it smudged really quickly. Ended up in the bin.

I've been using skin and me tretinoin this year and the difference is noticeable. You take regular photos on their site so it's clear to see the improvement.

The only product which has had an absolute wow factor for me was Chanel Sublimage. An immediate noticeable difference to my skin. I loved it but only had a trial size and it's way out of my affordability range.

OP - the Elizabeth Arden capsules are really reduced on a Groupon offer at the moment. Really tempted to try them.

Oh my god, that is some price for the Chanel!! 😮

3luckystars · 24/01/2025 14:29

How much is it and what does it do?

3luckystars · 24/01/2025 14:30

Also what is the collagen powder you are using and is it expensive?

dollymixedup · 24/01/2025 14:38

Delhicious migh-tea moisture balm

A total game changer for my eczema - gone from needing steroids, prescription soap free wash and a variety of paraffin based creams (grease) and still having dry, itchy red patches to using this daily. My skin has never been this clear in the last 49 years. I've gifted it to several people with problem skin and all but one of them are equally impressed.

I like the scent, but they do a scent free one and a mint one (which is great in summer/hot flushes as it's cooling like a menthol)

Ohshutupcolinyoutwat · 24/01/2025 14:40

Glossier future dew, gives my skin a lovely glow which lasts all day.

CinnamonCoffee · 24/01/2025 14:47

Clio cushion foundation. It's a Korean brand, cheap and amazing!!

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 24/01/2025 14:50

Vitamin C for me. My skin looks so much brighter.

Does hair count? If so, similarly to you, a product so so expensive, but also a game changer. Kérastase Nutritive Nourishing Hair Serum which is a night treatment, and Kérastase Première Anti-Frizz Filler Heat Protecting Hair Serum for the day. My menopausal hair is fine and becomes frizzy and pouffy, and I have tried everything to tame the frizz. These two products have made a massive difference. They're pricey but they will last ages as I only need to use less than a pea-sized drop for my below shoulders-length hair.

I just got the L’Oréal dupe version of the kerastase night serum and it’s very good! Really reduced the frizz.

Alpha h retinol reboot body lotion. My bumpy legs have gone, my skin has never been so smooth. I’ve only ever used moisturiser on my body before so it may be that an body lotion with retinol works but good grief it’s good stuff.

Sparkletastic · 24/01/2025 16:10

To the PP who said her VB eyeliner was the worst ever - this was absolutely my view when I only had one of the matte ones (Cocoa) as it was dreadful. Last year I was gifted 2 of the shimmer shades - Cinnamon and Bronze - and they completely changed my view as they are both brilliant.

A real game changer is the Avant Pro Perfecting Primer. Got it in a beauty advent, looked up price and was horrified, started to use it and realised it's bloody amazing. Gutted as I'm too tight to pay £85 for a primer when it runs out.

Lisa Eldridge skin tint also deserves an honourable mention for finally giving me an alternative to Erborian BB.

MerylSqueak · 24/01/2025 16:33

I get eczema on my hands and I dont like yhe way they're ageing so I have been looking for the best handcream for years. I've tried dozens. I got given some Dr. Lipp BFF and it knocks everything else into a cocked hat, including Elizabeth Arden 8hr cream. It's greasy but I only use it first thing in the morning and last thing at night so that doesn't matter. My hands look much better, I haven't had eczema and I hardly need use handcream during the day. It's fab.

I bought it on the strength of your recommendation. Have been looking for a body retinol. Time to get ready for spring!

LoveLabradors · 24/01/2025 16:39

@JMAngel1 - pleas can I ask where you put the capsules in your night routine - before or after tret? Thanks v much

Oh my god, that is some price for the Chanel!! 😮

Plus it’s a tiny pot, and the ingredients don’t warrant the cost !

whatwouldlouisaguydo · 24/01/2025 16:40

@TorroFerney can you give a link to this alpha h cream please. I’m having problems with bumpy legs, possibly ingrowing hairs that I’m hoping to tackle this year.

whatwouldlouisaguydo · 24/01/2025 16:57

@TorroFerney Found it on Look Fantastic. 😊

SpaceOP · 24/01/2025 17:04

Am interestedin all the collagen recommendations - my nails are a nightmare. I might look into those.

My 2024 discovery is Trinny BFF foundation. Absolute game changer for me. Most foundations come out too yellow on my skin but the Trinny stuff goes on so well, gives me the right amoutn of coverage and really does seem to add a lovely glow.

For the hair oil fans, I have been extraordinarily surprised by the effectiveness of the Pantene Keratin hair oil. I do not like Pantene products usually but DS bought this one and I inherited it. Its surprisingly good and a LOT less frizz over here since i started using it.

AuContraire · 24/01/2025 17:08

JMAngel1 · 24/01/2025 05:40

Ooh good to know - thanks for the tip.
I’ve actually started using half a capsule every morning (use a different face oil at night anyway so felt like a waste to use half a capsule at night. So now one capsule is lasting 2 days which makes it more affordable. I keep the half used capsule in a contact lens case so it doesn’t leak and is in an airtight container.
To all of you who have bought them off this thread - report back!

How quickly did you notice a difference with them, OP?

bigchanges1 · 24/01/2025 17:20

XiCi · 24/01/2025 12:15

Also will second everyone saying collagen supplements. I use the powder in my coffee every morning. I notice the difference in my skin if I run out. My nails are stronger and my hair thicker and glossier now in peri menopause than it ever was when I was younger. My hairdresser comments every time I go in now at how much healthier and thicker it is and how fast it grows. My mum (80) also uses it and thinks in a lifetime of taking all sorts of supplements its the only thing that has ever made a difference.

Could I ask what collagen powder you use please?

lindyloo57 · 24/01/2025 17:21

My holygral items after years of trying lots of brands are
No7 tubing mascara the only one for me that doesn't transfer on lower lid
Hourglass eye liner no transfer and last all day
Lisa Aldridge eye liner is second
Alpha h glycolic toner and retirides from spain, but I've just found out you can no longer buy it over the counter.
Just brought a liquid blush from B perfect and it last all day, beating all my cream blusher buy hours, normally if I don't reapply they disappear by lunchtime.
Eborian cc cream but I do have to mix 2 colours
Laura geller balance and brighten or glow .

A collagen supplement

I run and was taking it to help recovery but my hair is lush and shiny and my nails have never been so strong.

Ooh would you mind sharing? My nails could do with a lot of help!

WinterFoxes · 24/01/2025 17:32

Origins ginzing eye cream. It hides purple shows and fine lines and behaves under foundation.

I also like the Laura Geller baked powder. Not as wow as I thought from responses on here, as itmakes my skin so matte it looks dull. But it has good coverage and I live the Kabuki brush. I usually smear a bit of Ginzing serum on top to make it look fresher, which is totally wrong use of serum but has a gorgeous, subtle effect.
