... surely the nipple prominence on this website is totally ridiculous? I'm not being prudish, but would anyone feel comfortable going out like that? There are multiple examples on this site.

She clearly doesn’t need a bra as she lovely perky boobs that I can only dream off. What she DOES need is a nice warm studio and probably a good set of thermals.

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 17/01/2025 19:41

I was all set to tell you you were being ridiculous but it's like they're selling lugnuts or something

notwavingbutdrowning1 · 17/01/2025 19:44

I seriously wonder if they've been spraying them with ice cold water to perk things up

She certainly doesn't need a bra, but I agree that she's unecessarily exposed and it seems exploitative to me.
While I'm here, I also want to protest at the pretentious wankiness of the copy. "Trousers crafted from..." 🙄

Nipples are a weird sexualised preoccupation in the UK. Where I'm from, bras are for

a) large breasts which require support for the comfort of the woman herself
b) achieving a sleek outline for special occasions
c) dressing up 'sexily' for a partner

Women don't feel compelled to wear bras day to day, irrespective of breast-size. Nobody would bat an eyelid at a woman's nipples being contoured through the fabric of her top or blouse. Not at work, in the street or at the gym.

When I arrived in the UK, this is one of the things I was struck by early on. Men -colleagues, shopkeepers, strangers in the street‐ would literally stare or comment, even though I was quite young and clearly not trying to 'parade' my boobs. I quickly learnt to comply and have worn bras ever since, in order not to cause offense. But I really hate it and definitely don't need to wear one.

HereBeWormholes · 17/01/2025 20:11

Reminds me, I must go and hang my wet duffle coat up...

I've heard this a few times, so are boobs seen as sexualised in your home country?

Women's nipples have always been sexualised here. Tbf nipples do become hard when you are aroused so it's not like there is no connection to sex.

I have to admit that looks ridiculous and quite awful @notwavingbutdrowning1 !!!

I mean, just WHY? Confused

Overtheatlantic · 17/01/2025 20:47

I think she looks great. I would expect to see this look in a sophisticated fashion crowd having cocktails in Paris or New York.

WarmthAndDepth · 17/01/2025 20:59

@ChangingHistory, yes, boobs are sexualised but not as hyper-sexualised as here. More like they're appreciated when they're on show or deliberately accentuated, but sort of invisible if in a t-shirt or while feeding a baby (literally never under a 'modesty-cloth') or naked on the beach or bouncing on a jog (yes, lots of women run without bras).

Nipples come in all shapes and sizes though, from the soft even spread of the 'pancake' to the rubbery pertness of the 'licorice allsort'. Sure, nipples do harden with arousal, but most nipples will be visible through clothing even in their unaroused state.

I really resent the expectation to wear a bra. I probably cut a similar silhouette to the woman in the photo (a bit heavier) so only wear one to shield men from the sight of my nipples which, most of the time, feel about as sexy as the tip of my nose. Lots of unnecessary expense and discomfort because some men don't know where to put themselves in the face of female anatomy.

ItGhoul · 17/01/2025 21:01

Mumsnet really needs to get over itself about nipples. Don’t want to show yours? Fine, don’t show them. But no need to obsess over other people showing theirs.

ErrolTheDragon · 17/01/2025 21:09

Nothing wrong with natural nipples.

Way better than the kardashian fake ones !

It's not obsessing over it to notice that those pictures are not the norm - what point (excuse the pun) are they even trying to make? I don't think it's a particularly good selling tool.

On what grounds am I reporting OP if no-one else has?

Orphlids · 17/01/2025 21:12

I was wondering about bra-wearing the other day. Why do we do it? To prevent our breasts from sagging, or hanging low, so they’re still considered sexually attractive to men? To conceal our nipples to reduce the amount of sexual harassment we’re subjected to by men? Are men the reason we wear them? If we never had to see a man again would most women just discard their bras?

With the whacking great coat hook nipples?! I don't think so!

no comment in response but just wondering, anyone else distracted by the unevenness?! My intrusive thoughts just wanna reach out and make them symmetrical (I’m the type that has to straighten piles of letters, fridge magnets, cups in a row though 🤣)

I stopped wearing them maybe about a year ago except as you say for special occasions or an outfit that needs it. I’m not sure why we put ourselves through the discomfort of them, it’s just been grilled into to us i suppose.
