Bikini at 40??

Following a conversation with friends where everyone was talking about best tankinis and one pieces… is 40 too old to wear a bikini? I’m talking about a tasteful, well fitting one! I am 5’4” and 8 stone. Doubting myself but tankinis and shorts just feel way too frumpy!!

Wear it! The only person that comments when I wear one is my older sister 🙄 she comments on everything however.

I'm younger than you and I can't wear one any more because I'm too fat and lumpy and ugly but if I was slim like you I definitely would wear one. Have a nice holiday!

Do people really feel that embarrassed about their bodies at 40? I’m late thirties and I don’t think my body is that different to when I was in my 20s 🤷‍♀️ I certainly wouldn’t be worrying about my figure at eight stone.

Jeez are you kidding. 40 and talking like your dead. All the 40 year olds around me look lovely. Not that it's about that but why all the weird age thing on here about 40.

No you're not. I'm mid-50s. I'm tall but built like a barrel on legs. I'm a size 18/20 around my middle. I look dreadful in a bikini. But I don't get a flying fuck. When on holiday I'm in a bikini - no one cares - and if they do, so what, I don't. The joy of being able to get in and out the pool/sea and not be sitting in a wet one piece or tankini is bliss. Just do it OP.

I just bought a new one at 54

I am 54 and wore a bikini loads on holiday last year. Two people commented - my sons, who said I am pretty ripped!

I'm slim and pretty much always been. Yet I prefer a one-piece and always wore them (and still do). It's just personal preference.

My mum is 58, your height, but much larger than 8 stone and she always wears a bikini. Her personal preference.

Wear whatever you want, in other words.

At 60 and 18 stone you can wear a bloody bikini if you want to, but 40 & 8 stone?! Dear god … wear what the fuckity-fuck you want!

I’m 58, have only ever worn tie-side bikinis, still do and I look fine and feel great. In fact I think I look banging. Others may disagree. My sister wears one pieces because she prefers them. My dad’s partner is 83 and still wears a hot pink high waisted number - and fair play to her.

There’s no can or can’t, should or shouldn’t. Don’t let other people police your choices or shame you into ‘age appropriate’ clothing, or where the hell does that end? The ‘correct’ school run bag and cool mum trainers? Or maybe beige elasticated slacks and an inoffensive hairdo? No! Wear what makes you feel happy and comfortable and don’t let anyone else put doubt in your mind.

Ive got 10 years on you and only ever wear bikinis. Hate swimming costumes

40???? you're in your absolute prime. I'm 56 and a bit bigger than you but love my bikinis. Wear what makes you happy!

57 here and still wearing a bikini. I even go topless or totally naked if it’s appropriate!

I have long hair and wear big over the ears headphones, which are also apparently a big no-no for ‘old’ ladies. 🙄

I'm 37 and no longer classed as slim. It hasn't even crossed my mind I could be too old for a bikini. I'm not sure you can be too old for a bikini?

After years of being overweight I now have very hard earned visible abs. I'll be fucked if I'm covering them with a tankini (I'm stb 44).

At 40? Absolutely not! Appalling idea. On the eve of my 40th I looked out all my bikinis and binned them. Also all stilettos and shorts that’s came above the knee were binned.

or in real life. Yes of course people of any age wear a bikini. Why would age dictate?! 🤦‍♀️

I'm an extreme pair shape and can't get a one piece (or dress) to fit due to the difference in top to bum size. I'm nearly 47 and never been able to wear a one-piece swimming costume. It'll have to be bikinis till I die (don't give two hoots what people think anyway)!
