I love their clothes & thought i might start a chat for other fans of this brand.

I'm tempted by a couple of dresses but hoping there might be further reductions as currently at 30%

I have 4 dresses bought last year & I've worn & loved them a lot.

Please tell me what gorgeous things you've bought

What is their sizing like for smaller people? Going by their measurement chart their size 4 seems to be a M&S size 10-12 so there appears to be nothing for people size 8-10.

The cord trousers I bought are too big, I'm a size 10 and bought that size. I would recommend sizing down

Are you on commission for them or something? That your username is named after them and all your posts are very generic and a bit salesy (e.g. re the fit) sounds like you work for them or their marketing agency.

Edited

I'd be really surprised if a brand as big and in such growth as Me&Em resorted to starting threads on mumsnet to drum up business. I think the OP is just enthusiastic about the clothes. Which I can see why, I really like them but goodness they're not cheap.

I'm a middle aged woman who works in an office who happens to love these clothes. Nothing more than that...

Don't bother responding to it OP.
The rest of us can carry on a conversation about nice clothes without worrying whether you are a sceret Me&Em spy covertly placed on mumsnet for product placement purposes 😄 I used to be on the Hush threads a few years ago and we were constantly getting accused of the same.

MeandEmLover · 13/01/2025 21:33

@EllaPaella and @Marchinginto2025 thanks! I'd be a pretty poor 'secret spy' 🙊 😅

I'm still browsing the sale & waiting till I get paid again next week!

I have a terrible tendency to buy clothes for going out to dinner etc or that are good for work. But what I really need is an overhaul of my regular weekend/ casual wear.

It's my least favourite thing to shop for but it's getting bad now

I can dress very well for work & if a surprise party invitation lands on the doorstep, well I have several perfect dresses...but look at me on an average Saturday & I'm a bit of a mess.

I don't own any jeans at the moment. I'm losing weight. Last year I lost 2 stones & I've about another 10lbs to go. I would love some gorgeous jeans or cords (basically not work trousers) & a selection of beautiful blouses / knitwear that I can wear meeting a friend for coffee or going for lunch with dh.

So i should focus on sorting that out...and yet I find myself drawn to the lace, silk, going out dresses! Again!

Can I recommend the travel tailoring trousers for weekend polished look that is insanely comfy!

MeandEmLover · 14/01/2025 00:05

@GardensandGrandDesigns thanks! they sound great! How do you style them? What shoes would you wear with them?
Or tops?

I would find it really interesting to see how others are styling their Me & Em bits and pieces and am happy to share my own layouts/ faceless photos.
I have just discovered the Whering app and am cataloguing clothes and accessories so I can remember particular outfits and cut down on 'What will I wear? ' days.
Yesterday I wore a blue/brown Me & Em shirt dress to work (recently from Vinted). I tied it with the self tie belt and wore with navy wool tank, blazer, tights and boots. It was a comfortable outfit although optimally I should probably get the dress taken up by a few inches.

GardensandGrandDesigns · 14/01/2025 07:30

I wore my travel tailoring navy trousers last weekend with a bone colour cropped hoody and a big camel winter coat and my Adidas sambas trainers. Will also be wearing them one day this week for the office with a me and em white flared sleeve layering top and camel colour blazer. I must get that app the previous poster mentioned!

Perfectlystill · 14/01/2025 08:12

I'm size 12 with no waist and big boobs - I find Me & Em clothes only good for tall, very slim, flat chested women.

Maxi dresses make me look pregnant and all those pussybows make me look like the breastfeeding mother in Little Britain.

I used to buy a lot of Me and Em ten plus years ago but latterly its design has changed and this makes me sad. I still have an old silk crepe dress I bought from them a decade or more ago and wear it all the time.

Verite1 · 14/01/2025 09:20

Personally I think they were at their peak maybe 4-5 years ago. When they started to get noticed but were not worn by all the MPs or their wives! I have some gorgeous items from then that I will wear for ages. I still like their clothes and personally I think they are flattering on all body types (that’s their thing really) but it’s rare for something to now strike me as a must have. It’s no longer my go-to and I tend to now buy in the sales.

Verite1 · 14/01/2025 09:23

I will say that their silk dresses are cut and hang beautifully. I have two - one full price (😫) and one from a sample sale (😊). Definitely worth picking up one of those in the sale if it’s your sort of thing.

MeandEmLover · 14/01/2025 09:23

@RingofBrodgar thanks so much for sharing your outfit! I love every single element!

That dress looks super versatile. The dresses I bought are not suitable for work for me so I need to watch that I think.

Can I ask you where you got the necklace & boots in your photo? I love both too.

@GardensandGrandDesigns can I ask if you're tall? I'm 5ft 9" & generally find trousers good leg length. I had a look at the trousers & they look great 👍 👌
I need to think about how I'd style them for casual wear.

I got sucked down a trousers rabbit hole over breakfast but again found myself looking at more formal styles & thinking they'd be great for work....

I need to start planning imaginary weekend trips & looking at clothes for that sort of thing.

I think I'll start with a really good pair of jeans & perhaps cords + the travelling trousers. That would be a good base to build from?

I'm also interested in that app. Do you photograph all your clothes?

Where do you shop now @Verite1 ? I'M always interested in new brands to check out.

I'm a latecomer to me+em & only came across them about 2.5 years ago. I'm not in the UK so rarely come across anyone else wearing it.

Not at all I'm short! 5ft 4. I usually get the trousers tailored but I ordered the travel tailoring in crop and fits me perfectly! Like your idea of weekend trousers.

Me&em clothes are beautiful and very well made, I think they last well too

unfortunately I cannot wear them at all asthey make me look like a wife of a Conservative Party MP 😄😂 , my SIL looks lovely in the clothes, but for me it does not work

may just be my face

i look ridiculous in Boden too

I tend to shop around. I bought quite a lot from Rixo last year, but that is definitely more for going out clothes and not casual. Got a bit obsessed and bought far too many (which is what I do)! I have decided that I am on a low buy year though so don't want to discover any new gems!

sunshinechaser · 14/01/2025 12:59

@ChardonnaysBeastlyCat agree more Labour MPs seem to like Me and Em as modelled here by Angela Rayner 😃

Has anyone bought anything lovely in the ME+EM sale?
Namechange87654321 · 14/01/2025 13:20

Agree that Me+Em is not what it was. I became a fan when Kate Middleton was living in their stripy tops - they were good quality, simple basics which unusually had a decent length in the body.

I’ve sent a lot of stuff back recently for being either poor quality or an unflattering fit, mainly for being too short in the body.

I’ve got a layering top which I kept as it goes perfectly with one of my cardis, but honestly it’s an absolute rag of Primark-like quality. After a few washes it’s totally lost its shape and requires a lot of careful ironing to get it to sit right. It’s too short and keeps popping out of my waistband, which is really annoying on cold days. And it’s so thin and see-through that I can’t take the cardigan off if I get too warm.

I keep an eye on their new clothes, but they’re generally too fussy and unflattering for me to buy these days.

Namechange87654321 · 14/01/2025 13:21

On a more positive note, I’ve had much more luck buying decent-quality layering tops from Baukjen.

lesparrow · 14/01/2025 16:45

I don't rate the quality all that much unfortunately, bought a few pieces last year but found the quality only slightly better than high street. Often times they use synthetics and I'm not paying upwards of £100 for that.

RingofBrodgar · 14/01/2025 19:55

@MeandEmLover
The boots are Air and Grace Jessa. I bought them in both navy and black about five years ago. Have resoled and looked after them. Haven't worn them for a couple of years but they've made a resurgence this Winter and are very useful. They don't currently have the same ones but have similar.

The necklace is Monica Vinader and currently half price.
www.monicavinader.com/gemstone-nugget-necklace/gold-vermeil-rio-beaded-gemstone-necklace-46cm-18-aquamarine

I downloaded the Whering app a few days ago. I didn't photo any clothes etc but found pictures online/ in my email order records/ Vinted buying history etc and uploaded those to the site. I don't have a vast wardrobe so it took just a few hours to compile. There will be a few things that I can't find online so will get them photographed at some point. I like the way you can create outfits then save them to 'Lookbooks.' eg 'Winter work outfits' or 'Weekend in Madrid' etc. For me this should be extremely useful as an ADHDer with poor object permanence - I forget what I have and what combines well.

Clothes I have bought directly from Me and Em have all been natural fibres, but quite a few eBay and Vinted dresses have been polyester or polyester blend. However, I don't think all polyesters are equal. Brands like Me & Em and Cefiinn use high quality polyester for drape, durability and washability. Some of the dresses require no ironing at all and wash like a dream, so I don't discount high quality synthetics for work clothes in particular. However, I am mindful that they are not eco-friendly : micro plastics etc. I am letting myself off the hook on those ones as I bought them second hand, so better me wearing them than them failing to biodegrade in landfill 😊

Urgenthelplease · 14/01/2025 21:50

I got the chisel toe metallic slingbacks in gold and the stripe track pant in navy and some gorgeous wide leg pants in orange. I’m nervous as I’ve bought joggers from me and em in the past and the quality really wasn’t worth the price and they didn’t wash well. I’m in Aus and find the exchange rate pretty painful but clothes here are so much more expensive. I like willow which is a local brand and does awesome sales.

GardensandGrandDesigns · 14/01/2025 23:00

I'm now obsessed with the whering app because of this thread!

MeandEmLover · 15/01/2025 09:51

@RingofBrodgar thanks so much for sharing those links. I absolutely love that necklace & am very tempted by it!

The Air & Grace boots are gorgeous & so rare to find nice leather boots in navy. I have black leather flat laced boots which I have literally worn out & I'm looking for a replacement but finding it hard to find what I want.

I had a look at that website - must take another look
.
I agree with you on the fabrics. I have 4 dresses from me + em & find they fit & hang really well.

I also am a big fan of the quality of the finishes. I have a lace dress & the seams inside are all edged with tape & there's a tiny ruffle inside the sleeve that sits right on the edge of the shoulder & stops it drooping.

Back in the late mid 90s / early 2000 's I bought a lot from Jigsaw & Whistles & they were using incredible fabrics with extra attention to the detailing & their clothes were so well made. For me me+em is filling that spot now

I buy from other brands too. I have a mix of sezane, ba&sh, maje, whistles & sandro with the odd thing from m&s (some work trousers).

I'm always interested in finding other nicely made clothes so will def take a look at Rixo, thanks @Verite1

@GardensandGrandDesigns I'm intrigued & a bit scared of that app as I'm not sure if i would have the patience to find everything to upload or if I would totally fall down a rabbit hole & become obsessed too! Are you taking pictures of your own clothes?

Been following this thread closely. I do like a bit of Me&Em but find some really it a bit oversized and unflattering. The pieces I do have get quite good wear.
OP check out WHATTOWEARFOR on instagram. Really good site for ideas on what to wear for all occasions with shopping links attached.
