DD says this isn’t fashionable for me

Verbena17 · 02/01/2025 22:32

I keep going back to the Passenger website and really loving this warm cosy fleece.
However, DD (20+) says it’s camouflage and not fashionable at all.
I get Alaska/fat face outdoors dog walking type vibes from it and think it would be so lovely and warm instead of my old boring waterproof.

Now this isn’t waterproof clearly but on rainy days I’d wear my waterproof. But on fine days, I’d just wear this with my jeans.

Even my mum says she doesn’t like it.

Any other ideas for cosy fleece for dog walking if not this?
I thought it was really cool but I’m clearly past knowing what ‘really cool’ is anymore ….im under 48 and over 45 😂 and would probably need a 16 or 18, although reviews say it’s relaxed fit.

All the teens/early 20s kids round here are wearing chunky fleeces, bright colours etc.
I think you just need to decide if you're going old school fleece, unfashionable, but warm and practical, or new fangled trendy fleece which is more boxy, brightly coloured and probably much less functional!
I hear what you're saying about not being bothered about being fashionable, I'm not really either BUT I would feel that "traditional" fleece would be a step too far away from being acceptable for me!

purplelagoon · 03/01/2025 10:23

I really like it and would definitely wear it. I think I'm
Stylish but possibly not to a 20yo!
I'd also wear a Wolf fleece but in an "ironic" way Grin

All the posters saying it's not fashionable - have you actually seen what late teens/early 20s are wearing on a day to day basis? I have 3 DDs in this age category. All would wear it - and one of them works in fashion.

I'm not sure why the opinions of late teens should sway anyone. There was a while that age group was going around wearing those ridiculous pre torn jeans. It might have been the height of fashion for late teens but it didn't mean that it was attractive, stylish or that anyone who wasn't in their teens should care tuppence.

Fleeces like this don't magically become attractive and stylish just because late teens are wearing them.

What works on a 15 year old is very different from what works on a portly middle-aged lady.

I can see a 15 year old working a combat look with oversized boots but it’s still not a nice garment.

latetothefisting · 03/01/2025 11:03

I mean it's not "fashionable" but does anyone really look fashionable in dog walking clothes? It's not exactly the catwalk.
I think it's ugly but no uglier than any of the other fleeces on here. If you like it and will wear it, get it, if you're that bothered about the opinions of others that whenever dd or dh see you going to put it on they make a face or joke, which will mean you never wear it, it will be a waste so just grab a plain black one.

basically whatever colour or style fleece you end up going for I doubt nobody else walking their dog over the hill/round the cul de sac will notice or care!

Where I live I see yummy mummy's wearing fleeces like this with black lulu lemon/ sweaty betty yoga/running leggings. The twenty year olds wearing them cropped so a bit of tummy is showing and then usually with wide leg jeans.

They’re horrid whoever wears them. Teens can get away with anything though.

FeelingSoOverwhelmed · 03/01/2025 12:31

I like it! But then I also like (and own) barrel leg/horseshoe jeans and whenever they are mentioned on here people start on about how awful/unflattering/terrible/not as good as skinnies so what do I know!

I have a Lucy and yak fleece jacket which is similar style and I wear that with the aforementioned jeans and a fitted t-shirt and a beanie hat, or over leggings and a vest if I'm heading to the gym.
I live in quite a fashionable area and I don't think that would look out of place on the school run round here 😂

wizzywig · 03/01/2025 12:36

Bleugh so frumpy! My view (I don't think it's popular on mn) but always shine and look fabulous. I'd google what Scandinavian dog walkers wear and copy them as I'm a scandi geek

pinkroses79 · 03/01/2025 12:37

Where I live everyone seems to be wearing patterned fleeces or colourful Lucy and Yak ones. I think it looks fine and what matters is that you like it. You can always send it back if it doesn't suit you?
I've had some Passenger clothes and most of them have come up big regarding sizing.

DrCoconut · 03/01/2025 12:39

I actually really like it. If it was cheaper I'd probably buy it!

Jaxhog · 03/01/2025 12:41

I like it too!

Mumofmarauders · 03/01/2025 13:11

I really like it, boyish in a fun and sporty way, if you see what I mean. Full disclosure, I'm under 45 but not by much and have no clue what is fashionable. But I also don't care and that's one of the joys of being in your forties, I thought!

SammyScrounge · 03/01/2025 15:50

I think it looks great. Ideal for dog walking in cold weather. If you like it, you buy it.

Verbena17 · 03/01/2025 16:31

Chocolateteabag · 03/01/2025 09:21

What about a longer line one like this Didrikson one?
If you google the name you may find it in a uk outlet on sale too

I think the single colour way looks slightly "cooler" (but I am 48 and don't care all that much)

Like those but being a half zip would make my tummy look bigger

Let’s not be calling me portly or middle aged! 😂😂😂

This.

henlake7 · 03/01/2025 17:56

I dont think fleeces have ever really been fashionable have they?
They are just a comfortable practical item of clothing like wellies or thermal underwear! If its just for dog walking then pick one that you like and that looks comfy.

Verbena17 · 03/01/2025 19:00

Calypsocuckoo · 03/01/2025 18:03

There are lots of other ones on the website that are similar without the pattern, they do look lovely and war, but what about something more neutral ?

Yes I've been wondering about this one or the blue version of it.

It's the kind of thing that can look uber trendy depending on the model and photo or it can just look hideous. I'm thinking the latter.

RoamingGnome · 03/01/2025 19:18

Verbena17 · 02/01/2025 22:38

But does anyone else like it?
It’s in the sale so maybe not 😂

I’m a total introvert and I like to not be noticed.
Ive never had a patterned fleece before. And DD mentioned it was akin to someone wearing a wolf fleece! 😬

If you're trying to go unnoticed then camouflage is a great idea!

Can a fleece ever be fashionable? I love a fleece but surely they are for warmth, not style.
