All welcome

Veils drawn over last week...

The rules (anyone can join):

This is about feeling better about yourself...not necessarily a diet per se etc etc

  • Sunscreen at all times
  • No or little booze. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Oh how exciting Duchess (fellow fan of Cook! here). You don't need all that paraphernalia anyway - just tie the baby on your back with a pillowcase and get back to re-reroofing the barn
Really hoping all goes well for you

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 15/05/2008 23:40

marina - this is my Cook! post-baby menu plan: chicken alexander; pork dijon; braised beef in brandy & mushroom sauce; chicken dijon; steak & red wine pie; lamb tagine. And I have a salmon en croute just for me! I can't bring myself to buy the veg/rice etc as that feels like total domestic defeat!

DefinitelyNotMARINAWheeler · 15/05/2008 23:41

I think that would be a Black Day on bloody Slimy World

You will have earned every yummy mouthful!

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 16/05/2008 08:40

lol Marina.

I'm excited for you Norks. I think you can be forgiven missing the flexitol - frankly if you can even see your heels are cracked at almost 9 months pg then you're doing pretty well!

www - sadly this isn't pocket money debt - he's almost 20 and it's real NatWest debt with extortionate NatWest fees and charges. Frankly, he needs to get a grip. Grrr. TBH I'm a bit of a financial control freak though so he's probably no worse than any other young person.

Marina · 16/05/2008 11:59

Morning all, am reverting to BoJo-free form after it seems that Goldenhair can do no wrong...so far
Oh saggars, I do hope you can sort him out. Wasn't there a series called Bank of Mum and Dad about feckless teens and 20 somethings being financially managed by their far shrewder parents?
Yesterday a good day. I do need to get my head round SW, I think, but have ordered a Family Cookbook to try and work my regime into the week's menus. Dh is going to be very about dry-frying and the like though.
But yy to diet, water, walking, cream . I even did hoof filing and flexitol. Still working on sleep though - work, ds being antsy, dd not wanting to go to bed - it all makes for not exactly stressful, but hectic evenings.
Today started with walk and SW approved breakfast - have been forced to confront the true nature of my carbtastic normal diet and it's a bit of a shock - so I wish everyone similar success

WideWebWitch · 16/05/2008 12:25

oh HOW Exciting DofN! I love Cook stuff too and I have to say, the ready prepared veg is fab

OP posts:
moonshine · 16/05/2008 14:53

(Quivers with excitement for Norks)- you sound so calm. All that baby stuff and the planning bit is great for one's PFB but sounds like you are more than ready for this one.

WWW - we are going to Kingham, to be hones not our first choice but, unfortunately I left it to dh to sort who works to journalistic deadlines (ie the last possible moment) . But we went pre-kids and actually had a wonderful time - the area is gorgeous.

I bet you do look thinner but, even if you don't yet, you really do sound reformed from a few weeks ago so it can only be a good thing (good luck with the job by the way).

Iamdingdong - which part of the Cotswold did you grow up in? Sounds very idyllic.

Marina - good luck with SW - I must admit I just cannot bring myself to follow a system - which is probably why I have always struggled with my weight!

I have been back to the gym and was crap after 10 days away. Makes me more determined to try and go more regularly. I've also moisturised, painted my skanky toenails which look much better, and have tried to do self-tan on legs again (and they do already look better but am trying St Tropez as recommended by blonde dolly bird-type shop assistant in scary local beauty shop).

And I feel great - I'm sure it's the hormone surge of being post-period. Now if only I could remember to keep taking my cocktails of pills...oh and I'm allowed a glass of wine tonight.

bamamama · 16/05/2008 17:27

Duchess - ooh, good luck!

Right, well it's 2.27 am here and I'm not in bed. My bootcamp day has looked like this:

2x tea and one slice of toast.
1x coffee and a muffin
1x coffee and a slice of cheesecake
1x banana
1x small popcorn and a small diet coke
2x glasses of champagne
1x coffee (and this is the crucial bit) forgot to order decaff and now cannot get to sleep. Bugger.

What a terrible bootcamp day! I will be a vision of good health tomorrow (if not very tired).

at least I'm vaguely on the same time zone as everyone else.....

happy weekend everyone and good luck again DoNB

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 16/05/2008 20:21

Nothing happening here baby-wise. Which is good because I have important things to do between now & Monday afternoon - so anytime from Monday evening will be just fine...!

Sunscreen & moisturisers & absolutely slathered in heavenly-smelling body butter. Still haven't got the Flexitol out.

I had 2 bowls of Sugar Puffs for breakfast and they were lovely (we don't usually have sugary cereals). I've also had raw carrots, apple & kiwi fruit. Veg & lentil soup for lunch with toast. Cheese & crackers for dinner, followed by 2 M&S chocolate marshmallows and a lemonade ice lolly. Really couldn't face a big plate of hot food.

Went to bed before midnight and had about 6 hours sleep with only one trip to the loo. But still felt shattered all day.

tharsheblows · 17/05/2008 09:07

Can I briefly hijack (sorry) - Saggar, you don't accept CATs and I wanted to ask you about the surgery your daughter had. It is starting to look like my son will need it (femoral osteotomy although he discussed a pelvic osteotomy - or whatever that one is) and it might be sooner rather than in a month or so. I'm really just curious / anxious about the recovery period. He is 10 and sensible (surgeon's words ) and will be allowed on crutches.

You can use my old work email because it's spam-tastic and I don't mind posting the address: [email protected]. Ignore the out of office reply and I'll keep an eye on it for the next few days.

I do have Flexitol on my feet now, was going to order Calmurid but walked by a Boots so popped in and got the former. They don't look too bad, actually, except for the flawed polish job (I need to learn how to paint my damn toenails properly). Eating not so good, very stressed. Exercising good, yay! Body cream ok-ish. Sunscreen ok-ish. Sleep, ok. Handcream, not so good, need to start carrying it around with me again.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 17/05/2008 10:13

Hello thar. Didn't realise about my CAT status - I've mailed you although I don't know if I'll be much help. Poor ds.

On the bootcamp front I'm still booze free - have a night out booked for the 29th so am hoping to make it til then which will be a month. Poor on the exercise front though

I'm not paying off ds1's debt - can't blimmin afford it for starters I have his switchcard now 'til payday and then will be reassessing what he can spend each week. Takes me right back - I used to do this for a living.

Norks - we are all expectant here.

Marina - I can't kick my carbtastic habits. Best of luck!

WideWebWitch · 17/05/2008 10:21

I've lost another 4lbs! So that's 12lbs in total in 14 days (this is day 14). Still no booze!

yesterday
vitamins
bacon and eggs
smoked salmon/cream cheese wraps
cheese and crispy bacon as a snack
brazil nuts
plate of cheese, proscuitto and spinach salad for supper

went to bed at 9.30, was knackered.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 17/05/2008 11:33

Nuff said.

bamamama · 17/05/2008 11:34

WWW - fantastic! Well done.

Will keep this short as I've started a bottle of wine. NOT pregnant this month (hence wine) and ds has, just this evening, moved into Big Boy Bed. As I type DH is wrestling him back into it! Gotta go

Batters, top tips:

Meal plan and shop accordingly
REALLY read labels. Sugar is in EVERYTHING, even where you don't expect it
Choose some days where you get a break as first week is tough. Mind you, I worked and got through it
Really read the book. Loads of it struck chords with me
Most bacon has sugar in it, Tesco organic doesn't though nor doe sM&S bacon
Always carry nuts about your person
the search function on the pig2twig forum is v useful, I didn't know whether red peppers were ok (they're not) or anchovies (they are) but searched and got the answer
will post more as I think of it!

Hiya batters. Yes, I've got to the actual diet and am on day 15 now. I allowed myself wine last night because the book said I could and feel a bit grim today as a result but also feel newly motivated to do another 2 weeks of no alcohol, which I found easy (surprised myself tbh) these past two weeks. India and Neris are honest about how you can have the odd carby thing once you're 'off' the diet but do say it's a way of life really. If you go back to lots of carbs then yes, you will put the weight back on. I can live with this. I miss bread but actually giving up bread, potatoes and sugar is a small price to pay really. And in phase 2 and the maintenance bit (haven't read that properly) you are allowed more veg and some fruit and stuff. I think you probably could have caffeine and I'm tempted to go back to my one cup (with 3 tsps of coffee mind you!) a day but accept that it might slow me down a bit.

I like the how we got fat bit too. It really feels like I've found the book for me tbh, it's like a lightbulb has gone off in my head. I feel like I did when I'd read Allen Carr the first time and KNEW this was the time I was going to crack smoking. I feel this is the time I'm finally going to get back to my pre children weight because this diet is do able for me. Once you get used to it it's easier although the prep feels daunting at first. And it feels WRONG to have double cream and lots of cheese in the house. I really think dh thought it wouldn't work because he could see the bacon and eggs I was eating and the amount of food I have and couldn't quite believe it was a diet. I don't feel remotely tempted by crisps or bread because I'm so impressed with the results so far.

Fantastic www.

WideWebWitch · 18/05/2008 18:01

Batters, just thought of some other things that would have helped me:

Get the vitamins/order in NOW. Holland and Barrett took 5 days to deliver my order so I had to do the first 5 days without supplements, not a good idea but hey.

Prepare for breakfast things other than bacon and eggs. I am almost fed up of it. I have just made 12 haddock 'muffins' for breakfasts this week.

Will start a new thread in a minute.
