All welcome

Veils drawn over last week...

The rules (anyone can join):

This is about feeling better about yourself...not necessarily a diet per se etc etc

  • Sunscreen at all times
  • No or little booze. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

oh batters. If you do, I will too and we can drink together .

DefinitelyNotMARINAWheeler · 10/05/2008 19:43

Drink, arse, feck, GIRLS. Get drinking batters, you've earned it. I am hiding from dd in the bedroom while she continues the full-on commandfest that started at 7am. She is now bossing a Playmobil crocodile and a cyberman full of bubble bath around
At least you are still typing coherently, that has to be a good sign...
Enid, this thread is the Karachi Airport of mumsnet
We spend about 25% of our time improving ourselves and 75% talking about more diverting things. Like how can dd3 possibly be old enough for a bed , and can she come and give twice-her-age dd tutorials in how to stay in one

Dd caught me, so in haste - it's FAB batters

WideWebWitch · 10/05/2008 20:21

The dress is FAB Batters and I am DEEPLY envious of a) Sparkling wine, sob, sob and b) The Fat Duck, how fantastic, what's the occasion?

I just had chingri sagwalla from the Indian takeaway (fairly hot spinach and prawns, was gorgeous) and ordered veg curry too as I want some veg but it wasn't very nice so I didn't eat much of it.

Day 7 of no wine. I am going to let myself have Champagne on the 18th, which is the end of the first 2 weeks, when they say not to have any although come to think of it, Ds has a party from 6pm - 8pm that day and I will have to work the next day so maybe not, maybe the following weekend.

OP posts:
Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 10/05/2008 22:40

I'm also on day 7 of no wine www. I do look much better if I'm honest - a bit more bright eyed and bushy tailed. And in the two weeks previous I've had less than a bottle.

I'm liking the dress batters. I never buy dresses - have a 3 year old halter neck summer one that I never wear in the uk (so it's been worn maybe twice) and a black 'funeral' dress. dd has given my summer wardrobe the once over and pronounced it in need of a major overhaul. Just need to remember how to spend money on myself.

And how come when you have a bit of cash to spend you can never find anything you like?

bamamama · 11/05/2008 03:40

Batters - dress is lovely - a perfect item for those who don't 'do' summer fashion.

WWW - I like your stream of thought re champers, surely it's always time for fizz though?

I did my 10k this morning in 51 minutes so feeling pretty proud of myself. Had a huge plate of French toast with berries and cream afterwards which nicely did the trick. I'm off for a sit down and another cup of tea now though.

Happy Aussie Mothers day!

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 11/05/2008 09:27

Happy Mothers day bamamama.

Am speechless at your 10k time - I'd be barely three quarters of the way round in 51 minutes - its fab. Toast, berries and cream well deserved.

Doing anything nice with the rest of your day?

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 11/05/2008 10:15

Great time bama - it takes me 40 minutes to do half the distance. And that's when I'm not pregnant, so no excuses, just slow!!! And Happy Mothers Day.

saggars - how are your legs today? Well done for doing it. That's a loooong way.

Despite the beautiful weather I have to take the DCs to get school shoes. If I put it off any longer they'll have deformed feet.

Sunshine is forecast for the rest of the week so enjoy your new frocks. Looks down at hideous mules and maternity shorts and feels !

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 11/05/2008 11:15

Legs OK Norks. Tis my bum that's a tad sore despite gel saddle and gel shorts.

Lovely day - but not for shopping!

unknownrebelbang · 11/05/2008 13:07

Happy Birthday batters' DD. (Hope you survived the sleepover Batters).

And I hope minimoonshine's party went well.

You have done fantastically well losing weight (reduced wardrobe aside) Batters. What was the thing that "pinged", and how long has it taken you? The dress is lovely btw.

I think anything over 14 is often considered porktastic.

I do love jewel colours - they even suit me - but not sure they're right for summer. Pastels however...nonononono.

Very impressive bama - happy mother's day.

FIS, I wear black trousers and t-shirts for work mainly, or a vest top with an overshirt.

Any joy at Asda www? I never find anything suitable for me there.

DS2 - the monkey athletic one - moved from cot to bed very early because he used to climb out, he was only about 18 months I think, if that; and we moved house when DS3 was one and didn't bother to bring the cot with us, just padded him round with pillows (they did sleep on mattresses for a while, until we got beds sorted again).

Ouch Saggars!

unknownrebelbang · 11/05/2008 13:13

Had a glass of wine on Friday night, but for me, it's bread and choc I need to get under control.

Swam on Friday, and going again later. Walked into town and back yesterday.

Have been a bit flummoxed this week as DS3 (the 9 year old, not the 13 or 11 yr old!) asked a girl out! WTF? Alas, she kept him waiting for an answer, said yes, and then changed her mind (telling his brother first, the minx).

I reckon I don't have too much to worry about just yet, though - when asked where he might take her, he hadn't thought that through, then suggested the Wacky Warehouse (hmm) and when asked how he would pay, he sidled up to his father and said "daaaaaaaad". rofl.

yoyo · 11/05/2008 23:54

WWW - need your advice. DH most impresssed by your weight loss and is keen to "experiment" with diet (just doesn't want to admit he is following one actually). There are two books -- the original one which I bought but seem to have lost in house move and a recipe one. Does the recipe one outline the diet as I don't think DH wil be very inmerested in the India femspeak stuff?

Okay day for me. Session with PT was good although think I could have worked harder. Lost a crappy pound (and I was actually restrained last week so clearly am in for long haul). Aim to go to gym on Tue but will walk lots tomorrow.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 12/05/2008 10:22

Hello all. Hope everyone enjoyed the stunning weather this weekend. Shoe-shopping trip was a nightmare, you'd think people had better things to do on a hot Sunday. Tch! Anyway, it's done now and the DCs all looked very smartly-shod this morning.

ureb - your boys are endlessly riveting, if they're not leaping out of windows they're dating early!

I ate very well this weekend, quick cereal breakfasts, salad/ham/cheese lunches and BBQ & salad dinners. Did some lovely chicken kebabs on Saturday, chicken mixed in lemon juice & olive oil for a couple of hours with chopped mint, which apart from the rosemary & bay, appears to be the only herb in the garden this year. Any way, chicken in mint & lemon was v. nice.

Lots of sunscreen, water, moisturising etc. And I did a spot of gardening which counts as exercise.

Batters - just found the original book nestling next to Noick Hornby so no wonder I couldn't find it . DH is very determined and has ordered the recipe book from Amazon. He says he will sort out all his meals and cook them. Hurrah!
I liked the dress you linked to and it is the sort of thing I normally go for too. What are you celebrating?

I have felt mostly miserable today for no obvious reason. Very flat and fed up. Hate these moods as I don't know how to get myself out of them. Think I'll have an early night after a soak in the bath as I am not sleeping especially well either.

Have eaten really healthily and walked children to and from school. Lots to do tonight so will go to the gym tomorrow instaed.

LoveAndSqualor · 12/05/2008 16:28

Hello all,

Marina, rofl at the Karachi airport thread.

WWW - that's an amazing weightloss! Well done, you must be in a very good mood.

Duchess, your food sounds delicious. Much chicken and salad round our way too - also lived up to my Stoke Newington credentials by eating a job lot of lentils over the weekend, with capers and anchovies and goat's cheese, mmmmm. Supplemented by the odd Magnum here and there, and not a few glasses of rose.

Yoyo, sorry to hear you're feeling flat - me too, a bit. Babymoon over, I think, and real life and all its problems starting to reassert itself. Argh, must go as DS is stirring but will post more later (especially findings in shops this weekend wrt flattering summer-wear). Happy sunny mondays to you all!

WideWebWitch · 12/05/2008 19:26

Hello everyone

omg at 9yo asking girls out and lol at Wacky Warehouse! And sorry Yoyo and L&S are feeling flat, anything in particular? Can we help?

Some luck at Asda, I got some decent skirts but somehow came back with one top ni a size 12 and another which I STRUGGLED and STRUGGLED to get on and wondered why I couldn't only to check the label and find it was an EIGHT! No fking wonder I couldn't get it on, I haven't been a size 8 for 11 years! Both must have been on wrong sized hangers. Anyway, can't be arsed to take them back as they were about tuppence each (really, one shirt was £2.50) but hey, I still need stuff. Ordered online from Monsoon though and then nearly from Debenhams but put my password in incorrectly 3 times and it locked me out, so I have a virtual shopping basket full of stuff I want and can't buy. Emailed them but no reply. Oh well! Wore a v ill advised top to work today and looked like sack of potatoes.

Yoyo, I agree, your dh must read the book, although it's girly ish but v good on the "why we got fat" and "why we want not to be fat" so I really think it's worth it. Every time I wanted somehing I remembered the words ringing from the pages and stopped myself even considering it. eg, "cheating at this stage is LETHAL, if you do you will have to go back to the beginning agian" and other stuff like that.

Having said that, feel horribly bloated today and wonder if takeaway on Sat had some sugar in it, they said not but I don't feel as great as I did so maybe it did. My period started yesterday so hoping it's bloating from that and that I haven't gone back to square one. No more takeaways for me just in case. DH said, rightly, that that's the only thing I've eaten in 9 days that hasn't been vetted.

Back later, must read dd a story. Ds went away tihs morning on school trip, I miss him and can't wait for him to be back. Poor love was nervous too.

OP posts:
TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 12/05/2008 19:46

www - debenhams did this to me too at the weekend when I was ordering school uniforms. I checked out using a 'just check out' option which was to the right of the login box (iirc). Slowest site in the world though!

I feel exhausted today and have lots of low pains so I might have an early night.

I've eaten cheese scone, cheese & fruit for lunch, lovely sugary jam doughnut , baked potato, grilled fish & salad for dinner. Lots of raw carrots. And lots of water too. I also have new addiction to Waitrose Cloudy Lemonade Ice Lollies but haven't had one yet today...

I've booked pre-baby cut & colour for Wednesday morning and on enids advice from my post-birth Style & Beauty thread, I will stop putting self-tan on my norks as it will not be good from a bf POV.

WideWebWitch · 12/05/2008 19:52

Oh so not just me then DofN. Mmm at ice lollies.

Today

smoked salmon with cream cheese inside stuffed down in haste as dh didn#'t set alarm and I woke up at 6.45am when I normally leave at 7.15am

mid morning snack, Camembert, cheddar and Dolcelatte

lunch homemade salad nicoise, tuna, spinach, eggs, anchovies, olive oil and tarragon vinegar dressing

And dh is about to cook me steak with garlic butter, mushrooms and sald.

Loads of water
loads of vitamins
sunscreen am and pm
not enough walking but hey ho
no booze
bed at 10.15 last night and most nights in the last week actually, inc the weekend. I'm wild, me.

OP posts:
Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 12/05/2008 20:06

lol at your ds ureb. Bless him.

I'm trying to get ds2 to ring about a little evening job he's been offered. Doesn't seem to realise that they don't often come handed on a plate. Surprised he hasn't jumped at the chance as it's at the local Bargain Booze

All this dieting going on, you are so disciplined. All or nothing for me it seems and today I've eaten nothing - well it feels like nothing - bowl of sultana bran, banana, a yogurt and a load of midget gems. Surprisingly I feel a tad lightheaded. Will have tea soon, hopefully! Must put eating on my 'to do' list tomorrow.

Have been a little lax with the feet too and it shows. Everything else is OK, even feeling a bit brighter in my head. Sorry that you are feeling a bit low yoyo.

I have bad news about the good weather though. Having just ordered some new garden furniture I can guarantee rain for the forseable; starting about Thursday when the furniture gets delivered.

yoyo · 12/05/2008 20:36

Saggar - thanks for the weather warning. We need to get some too but keep putting it off. Where did you get yours from?

WWW - have to say that your food sounds delicious. DH only needs to lose about a stone but he has become rather worried about being in his forties and developing a paunch. He tells me things like "I was looking at so-and-so today, he's about my age and he's got a bit of a belly". I may re-read the book and highlight the bits that I know he will take notice of.

Still not feeling much chirpier but am going to scour the shelves for something to read in a minute. I need to lose myself in something for a while. May re-read "Cold Comfort Farm" unless anyone has any good suggestions.
