All welcome

Veils drawn over last week...

The rules (anyone can join):

This is about feeling better about yourself...not necessarily a diet per se etc etc

  • Sunscreen at all times
  • No or little booze. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

And forgot to wave at Bundchen in her linen trousers

DefinitelyNotMARINAWheeler · 14/05/2008 09:44

And torty and her vile cold and football woes. We did Jesu Rex Admirabilis on Sunday and survived btw

WideWebWitch · 14/05/2008 09:48

Oh Marina, I wish I could be let at them, the complete and utter fuckwits, how nice of them to waste time arguing while nothing actually gets done about it. on your behalf. Good luck at slimy world tonight and at archery and air rifles. They showed us a video (sorry was probably not a vid, was probably a compressed streaming file or something, showing my age calling it a video!) before they went and there was a bit where a boy launched himself and all the mothers in the audience put their hands to their mouths in horror. Roll on this afternoon!

WideWebWitch · 14/05/2008 09:49

sorry, should have said, launched himself off a very high structure, albeit wearing a helmet and a harness!

Great night's sleep last night. Hurrah.

Went to the gym this afternoon and worked hard. I have eaten a few chips and finished off a lovely bit of trifle that DS didn't want to eat. Only a couple of spoonfuls but did make me think "in for a penny, in for a pound". Not good. There is one pot in the fridge still but it was a close run thing.

I am going to have some wine tonight with The Apprentice. Won't be drinking at w/e as have a Trainer session booked for 8.30 on Sunday morning.

Still feel a uncomfortable about DD's trip. She has done two PGL ones before but this is a totally different thing. A challenging hike (okay with that), kayaking (a bit uncertain after those two children died a couple of years ago on the Wye), abseiling (indoor fine, actual cliffs hmm..), coastal walk with ropes to cross the bits where there is no path (gulp), jumping off the cliffs (F*). Expect many miserable posts when she is away. Please nag me not to take anxiety out on food and drink.

Time to sort out the children.

WideWebWitch · 14/05/2008 20:51

Oh bloody hell Yoyo, poor you, that does sound hardcore. Can you go too?! Or if you're worried can you speak to the teachers about it to get some reassurance? I can't believe how hard I found it letting ds go, he is away every other weekend with his dad and for sometimes 2 weeks at a time in the summer holidays but I still worried this week. He is back and had a lovely time. Enjoy your wine tonight. How old is dd?

I am not drinking wine, as I have not been for the past 11 days Or caffeine, or sugar, or carbs. Sorry to go on, but I am pleased with myself on all those fronts, it's required vigilance. But I do feel quite ok now, although skin still shite.

today
bacon and eggs
prawns, spinach salad and olive oil dressing, lemon juice and black pepper on the prawns
small pieces of Camembert, Dolcelatte and Brie
a couple of anchovies
swordfish steak wrapped in proscuito
with spinach salad
water
sunscreen when left house to collect ds
will be in bed the minute The Apprentice you're fired finishes.

Oliveoil · 14/05/2008 21:18

oh my goodness, what a lot of posts, I MUST keep on top of this thread (my fave posters are on it [creep])

these school trips sound hard, I get angsty when dd1 goes to the garden centre (will the coach have belts, will she find a toilet, will she be okayyyyyyyyyyyy?)

L&S - agree with everyone else re how hard it is for the first year or so - with dd2 it was about 2 years, we hated each other (dh/me) - are all loved up now and quite vomit inducing - hang in there x

I have been dealing with blardy football shite all day, rangers fans galore outside my office and piss all over the street, v annoying, had to leave work early

and I don't want to temp fate BUT I have had an offer on our house [gibber] estate agent confirming details in the morning, please give me lots of MN vibes! Practically asking price too (they must be mad)

DefinitelyNotMARINAWheeler · 14/05/2008 23:17

Terrific news about the house offer olive - positive vibes. I hope he didn't have a Ruuuussian accent and a football scarf on
Well, I am now a Slimming World member and getting my head round "Original" vs "Green" and superfree foods, which appear to be all the yuckier veg. But it's a great group, with people from all walks of life (quite a few of them fatter than me, wahey!), friendly and with a great leader. So I'll post weekly on Weds night on my progress
Yoyo, agree that sounds like a worried mother's nightmare - we will nag you I promise.
God your diet sounds way nicer than mine www - but I think Slimy World is easier to slot in with how we eat now.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 15/05/2008 09:09

Blimey, slow down you lot!

L&S - absolutely agree with everyone who says this first year is tough. Fab but tough.

Marina - hope Slimy World (lol) is good and that your colleagues have got off their butts and sorted the problems.

Yoyo - the trip sounds scary - for mum - but fab for dd. You're bound to be worried.

Good news about the house oliveoil - hope Manchester is a little quieter today.

ureb - sorry about your colleague. Hope she can kick the booze. When I worked in Births and Deaths it was became very clear to me just how many youngish women have alcohol related disease.

On that wine related note I'm joining you www in the smug club. No booze since a week last Friday and I'm a pound lighter today despite little exercise.

On the home front it's mate's brother's funeral today - at last - it's been nearly 3 weeks. And I'm debt counselling ds1 who seems to have got himself into a bit of a pickle money wise (he hasn't wholly grasped that outgoings need to be a tad less then income )

bamamama · 15/05/2008 11:42

Hello all, it's very busy here isn't it?

www - I know I've said it before but your diet sounds wonderful. 'small pieces of Camembert, Dolcelatte and Brie' so preferable to wotsits!

Saggars - good luck with the debt counselling, I suspect I should have had some of that somewhere down the line.

Batters - at least your DP is shouting sense at 6.30am

Marina - sorry work is shite again, is there any light at the end of the tunnel?

Oliveoil - good luck with the house and how crap about the Rangers 'fans'. Having lived in Scotland for quite a few years and worked with may Celtic and Rangers fans it's so depressing to realise that it's rarely about the football.

Yoyo - your dds trip sounds terrifying! But, you know, she will be ok. [mother of a toddler who knows nothing emotion]

Duchess - Archard is a fantastic name. Looking forward to hearing about his arrival (although not too much birth detail please)

L&S - it's true about the first (second) years. Just try not to murder your dh if he claims to be tired...

snacking like a demon here so bootcamping could be better. The button pinged off my trousers this afternoon when playing with ds so I'm going to try and distance myself from the toast. Nearly the weekend everyone...

LoveAndSqualor · 15/05/2008 17:28

Hello everyone, goodness, it's all going on here. OK, so, in brief:

bundle - meant to say before that I love those trousers. So much so that a pair may find their way into my wardrobe.

batters, most amused by your chatty dp. I assume it was our dear, newly-elected mayor whom he was berating? Surely there can't be more than one incompetent, foolish Boris in the public domain (unless of course Boris is the name of your dog )

duchess, love Archie (and Archard - so much better than Archibald).

Olive, that's wonderful news about the offer, crossing fingers and toes for you ...

And again, thanks for all wise words and reassurance about difficult first years. DP and I half-started to talk about things the other night, but it's tricky when you're watching the clock the whole time, counting down to the next feed. Must try to make some time for ourselves. There are some fundamentals that we need to address that were subsumed by the arrival of DS, and unfortunately now finding the time to address anything is nigh on impossible ... But I guess we need to just not put too much pressure on each other, or the relationship, for now.

Went to get my hair cut today in preparation for a wedding on Saturday (first real social outing since DS pitched up), so am feeling rather sleek and lovely this afternoon. DS is also on particularly good form today, so we're both in good moods (he is in his bouncy chair gurgling at my knee as I type). Have eaten toast and honey, a chicken sandwich, an apple and a chocolate brownie - no idea what to have for tea tonight. Eggs, perhaps.

What grim weather. Off to check the BBC forecast for the rest of the week ...

moonshine · 15/05/2008 17:52

I can't keep up either!

Marina - how crap for you - sounds like they do not have a clue and don't want to be the one to take responsibility for inevitable future f*-ups.

WWW - yes I am an anti-summer person. I'm sure it's all wrapped up in how I have looked and felt about myself in summer but I don't cope with heat very well. Give me a bright and sunny, cold and windy autumnal day and I'm like a pig in muck.

I can't imagine sending dd/ds off for school trips where they are not just mooching around a museum and that's bad enough.

Sympathy re: football crowds - I used to live very near QPR (in their glory days ) and used to spit feathers every Saturday home game when I didn't dare move or use my car. Very debilitating.

I am very very happy atm. My totm bloat has finally gone and dh has booked us a hotel for the bank holiday weekend sans children (only the second time in 7 years we will have been without them for longer than a few hours) in the Cotswolds.

Bought a strapless dress in Wallis today in the Debenhams sale! Since my black tie event I have discovered that strapless dresses with reasonably fitted skirt bits suit me (wearing an appropriate cardy/shrug, natch, to cover the brickie arms).

But can anyone help please. The dress comes with a sash which I don't want to wear and so I want to take off the flapping belt hooks. Is it best to cut them off or unpick them, or would that cause the dress to fall apart? tia

Oh and I have also invested in some Soltan Once face and body sunscreen and was very pleased that it came up in the Sunday Times beauty awards. I just never remember to reapply sunscreen and needed something that lasts longer than my drive to work and sitting at my desk .

WideWebWitch · 15/05/2008 19:25

Ooh Moonshine, how lovely, a hotel in The Cotswolds, which one? lol at brickie arms, bet they aren't. Me too, give me a drizzly day and I just want to be walking on a beach with sea spray in my hair

L&S, yes, it is hard to find time, we've all been there. But it's worth just putting it all on hold I think, recognising that it's hard and dealing with it when you've had some sleep etc. The world looks v different!

Bama, mmm, toast, now there's somethnig I'm resigned to not having for a while!

Saggars, so do you let them go into overdraft on the pocket money front? Ds asked dh "are we poor?" today because I stupidly told him the size of our overdraft (large but getting smaller by the day) and he was worried about the minus bit. Oops. Will reassure him later.

Marina, glad Slimy World was ok. I went to Asda last week and omg, there were very very very many people in there very much fatter than me.

OO, greeat news on the house!

Batters, I think you'll like India and Neris. Let me know when you get it. Will post a couple of things in a min, supper ready, back later!

good evening lovely ladies, I have been v bad at reporting in but quite good at bootcamp so am feeling happy, have had several booze free days, lots of water, salads and fruit, plenty of body cream, heels still need work though and had a good swim at the weekend so have lost 2-3 lbs this week I think, DH even said I looked a bit of a fox the other day DT2 picked up on this, she doesn't agree

will now try to catch up...

iamdingdong · 15/05/2008 19:39

oliveoil yuck to footballers, how revolting but yay to offer on house, fingers etc crossed for you

www fab weight loss well done you

moonshine how lovely, I grew up in the cotswolds and still have family there, where are you off to?

WideWebWitch · 15/05/2008 20:22

Today

loads of vitamins
bacon and eggs
salad with spinach, anchovies, tuna, cucumber and olive oil and lemon juice dressing
camembert, dolcelatte and brie
brazil nuts
and dh cooked me amazing scallops, marinated in thyme, lemon juice and olive oil, wrapped in proscuitto and skewered with rosemary from the garden
with M&S asparagus, french beans and broccoli with caesar dressing and parmesan shavings

Delicious!

I feel quite happy, I think I may be thinner, v v slightly, work is great, dh and I managed to have quite a ding dong via email this morning but then made it up over the phone at lunchtime. It's Friday tomorrow, one more week, then we all have half term off AND I have an interview for a perm job nearer home. If I don't get it I don't mind because I am now enjoying my job (now the fkwits are in line and happy!), I like my boss, I have reduced hours and one day at home and am paid well. OTOH if I get it it will be worth the drop in salary for something nearby.

OP posts:
Oliveoil · 15/05/2008 21:01

manchester was an utter DISGRACE this morning, bottles everywhere and piss stains and just a smell. I was very cross picking my way across shattered glass to work.

House has sold! am in shock, in this market etc etc, estate agent will not put sold up yet until finance is confirmed but yippee. I realise it can all go pear shaped but am an optimist.

tortoiseSHELL · 15/05/2008 21:04

Hello, all, still suffering a bit with this cold, and have lost my voice, so sound like crow! Was interesting at choir practice!

Marina, sorry about job being crap again, someone needs to be set on your managers to sort them out - agree www would be good! And well done on Jesu Rex! We did Elgar Spirit of the Lord which was LOVELY. I love that anthem!

tortoiseSHELL · 15/05/2008 21:06

Oliveoil - I am dreading the weekend, because the whole of Bristol has gone nuts about the possibility of going up to the premiership (SO not going to happen she says cynically). But if they do, this is going to happen EVERY time they have a home game...

time to move I think!

Fantastic about the house though! Yay!

yoyo · 15/05/2008 22:10

So many posts!

Sorry your job is crap at the moment Marina but glad that Slimy fits in with family.

WWW - I am assuming the whole family is not eating with you (mine would never eat scallops) but it all sounds delicious. Good luck with the job nearer home.

OO - Congrats. Must feel good. Have you got somewhere to go or are you renting for a bit?

Moonshine - v. envious about your w/e. No idea about sash but it depends how loops are sewn in I would think.

Batters - I would find my DH a bit odd if he actually started chatting as opposed to discussing what needs to be discussed.

L&S - hope you have a great time at the wedding. How old is DS?

Reasonable day but did share remaining trifle with DH. Couldn't resist after all! Won't be in gym until Sunday as my folks are visiting. Have had a workout getting the house sorted for them though.
Have found Cold Comfort Farm and am looking fprward to bed to start reading it.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 15/05/2008 22:57

Too much to read and I'm too tired, sorry! Will catch up tomorrow.

I've just had a bit of a show which has reminded me that I really am going to be doing labour again soon. Eek.

It's been a good bootcamp day and I even managed a shopping trip to Tunbridge Wells this morning (cot mattress, frozen ready meals from Cook!, stock up on Crabtree & Evelyn etc). The only downside is that the lovely body scrub I'm so devoted too seems to have been discontinued.

Food all very healthy, lots of water, sunscreen & moisturisers. Keep forgetting Flexitol though and I'm getting the sort of cracked heels that cod recoils from.

tortoiseSHELL · 15/05/2008 23:01

DOFNB!!!! COuld be any time then???? Are you ready for it, or are you a laidback 'been there done that' not even got a nappy in the house....?

I am so broody!

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 15/05/2008 23:21

t/shell. DC4 = slacker parents. Cot is still in an attic. Steriliser in the cellar (maybe?). We can pretty much wing everything else. I do have nappies & sleepsuits (all slung on the bed in the same spare room as the marvellous egg incubator). Cleaners have been today so at least the bathrooms are clean.
