I got a small Bantry and I'd say it's pretty big for a day to day bag. Not big enough for a laptop or to be a work bag, but if it's a handbag alternative it's more than big enough. I use it for days out with my 3 year old.

Currently it's holding spare trousers and top, several pairs of pants, a pair of gloves, a pack of baby wipes, two packs of tissues, a small squash bottle, keys, purse and phone.

With all that, it's about 2/3 full and I could definitely slide a tablet into the internal pocket as well.

Thank you Twirly, that's helpful. The Finchley is too big for everyday use, which is fine because I wanted it more for day trips. I was considering a Bantry for day to day use but if that's a bit big too then I won't waste my money. I travel light.

I'm still waiting for my "replacement" maxi, but have taken my small Bantry B for a day trip today, and this is what I've crammed in:

Mini umbrella; pair of gloves; phone; credit card wallet; phone charger and flex; mascara, eyeliner; small pot of Vaseline; small wallet of my meds; 500ml water bottle; an apple; a boxed piece of cake; a paperback novel; and temporarily, a rolled up sweater (cashmere so it folds up small). Yes, it still zipped up, and there was still a tiny bit of space to spare in the main compartment, whilst the external pocket was empty.

So no, it won't hold my laptop, but it will hold a lot of other stuff!

I posted this several pages upthread. It's not that small, unless you need to carry a fullsize laptop in it.

How much smaller in reality is the small Bantry B and the small Finchley A? Everyone's saying how small the Bantry is. I have a Finchley but quite tempted to get a Bantry too.

The small Finchley A isn’t massively bigger than a small Bantry B - the roll top makes the Finchley more flexible, useful if you’re picking up shopping.

Here they are side by side.

I prefer a top zip rather than a roll top so that’s a useful side by side comparison. Thanks @SabrinaThwaite

SabrinaThwaite · 10/01/2025 15:56

@IlovePond I find the roll top easy as it’s just held down by magnets, and it just flops back into place.

They’re both good general day bags for town, but I wouldn’t use them on a proper walk as I don’t find the straps very ergonomic and I like a hiking daypack with a vented back.

IlovePond · 10/01/2025 16:05

I see - magnets! Thanks @SabrinaThwaite

toenails · 10/01/2025 16:24

@IlovePond I find the roll-top fiddly - the zip sort of goes round the corner so a slight faddle unzipping it once you've done the rolltop thing. Clearly I'm in the minority minding this but much prefer the top zip, if this helps you decide.

IlovePond · 10/01/2025 16:46

Thanks @toenails - yes - I am a top zip person, definitely!

I have a small Canfield that I can fit my (small) work laptop, chargers, headphones etc in. It's in an attempt to not carry a huge amount of crap around with me.

Glenthebattleostrich · 10/01/2025 18:42

I am so happy I took a chance on this, received my small bantry b today and absolutely love it.

AmazingBees · 10/01/2025 19:10

My order just arrived and I'm really happy! I got one of each, and received a medium Canfield B corn/mulberry, a Paddington B in plum and a Paddington D in corn.
The only one I'm not keen on is the Paddington D, as it's too small for a phone so not sure what I'd use it for. Not sure about the corn colour either, though it works well on the Canfield where it's combined with mulberry.

They are great for carrying treats and poop bags on a dog walk, especially in the summer when you don’t have coat pockets to hand to lug everything around in. Maybe gift it to a dog owner if you don’t have dogs yourself.

AmazingBees · 10/01/2025 20:25

@Conqueeftador That's a great idea, thanks! I don't have a dog but several family and friends do so I'll gift it

Do dog owners not have phones then?

That's the same one I can't find a use for and I can't really see why a dog owner would have any more use for it.

Yes, but that would be in my jeans/trouser back pocket. I don’t want the pockets of my clothes filling up with bits of crumbled, broken dog treat, or smelling like dog treats. In my dog walking coat that’s fine, but not in the trousers I’m planning to wear out for the day after walking the dog.

I can fit my S24 in mine plus loads more.

My phone doesn't fit in it. Even if it "just" did, there wouldn't be room for anything more, let alone loads. Maybe a credit card, a lip balm and a hair tie.

Anyway, it's a cute thing, just no use to me.

I just had the same thought! I got some amazing dips last year and I was quite late to the party after finding the thread here. This year, I was on their mailing list and was waiting for email so I could pounce ...Blush.

For those that enjoy a lucky dip, this year I found the "seconds lucky dip" on Fabulous Planning, has two £10 dips and got an amazing (and looks perfect to me!) Planner Shell and Inserts worth about £80!

Can I ask what kind of inserts you got?
I took a punt and got the shell, but now need some inserts (pretty clever of them to send these as now will buy more) - trying to decide whether just to order normally or do a lucky dip with a request for inserts

Are you sure that's the Paddington D, not B? The B is lovely and a great size, will likely become my everyday bag, but the D is a strange in-between size - too small for even a phone, but too big to use as a purse.

Heavybuthopeful · 11/01/2025 02:57

Is the THANKYOU5000 code still working for people? Just tried but wasn’t accepted, maybe just for overseas.

I used it on my order but it doesn't work now. They must have disabled it!

Uneasypeasy · 11/01/2025 08:07

@Tigerlilyxx the inserts were the monthly and weekly planner ones, with some blank sheets at the back and a 2021-2023 calendar (hence becoming seconds I guess!)

Bugger. Well it saves me going for a third go …

NunyaBeeswax · 11/01/2025 09:14

IHhandt heard of the Paddington D and can't find it searching the Roka Site, but I'm stupid so...

Anyway. I did find it else where.

It looks tiny compared to the Paddington B.
And like the belt slips through a back sleeve. Don't think I like it.

Paddington B has a stickier outier front pocketier.

Roka lucky dip.

IlovePond · 11/01/2025 09:33

I also looked on the ROKA site for the Paddington D @NunyaBeeswax The other day it was being offered for sale at £10 with any £60 purchase but there were no size details available. (That deal seems to have ended now.)

As per a PP, I agree it would make a good dog treat training bag. We use a little drawstring bag, but it’s fiddly. That’s why I looked to see how much Paddington Ds were and was surprised to find they weren’t available to buy separately on the ROKA site, (I then found them at another retailer, but still no size details).
