Cute photos of Kate with the kids.
Those amethysts are like marbles

DuchessOfPort · 04/02/2025 19:00

Kate’s outfit is almost furiously bland! Fair enough that she thinks her work matters more than the clothes - she is right, of course. And I like rewears but jeans and her casual wear would also have been fine. I like casual Kate. Flats, jeans, pony tail etc. Mud coloured jacket, black flappy trousers and block heels is just rude!

Eaumyword · 04/02/2025 19:29

Oh Kate, no!
She looks businesslike, but it's not particularly stylish and I think you can do both when you're young, slim and beautiful. Leti tends to get it right with standout colours and a good mix of High Street and designer.
I know she wants to make it about the engagement not the clothes, but folks have turned up to see a princess doing princessing stuff!

MotherofPearl · 04/02/2025 21:34

@DuchessOfPort furiously bland is spot on!

I wonder if perhaps, understandably, she's finding it hard to re-enter public life and wanting to blend into the background a bit more. Of course, selfishly, I want a full return to fashion and bling! That outfit today was a snoozefest.

KiIIingMeDeftly · 04/02/2025 21:57

Apparently she's going to the BAFTAs so I'm sure we'll see some (reworn?) glamour then.

A day starts well if it starts with Mary of Teck.

There's the title of our next thread, @Maireas! Interesting reading about those pearl brooches. You can really see the resemblance between QM and QEII in some of those photos.

Serenster · 05/02/2025 07:51

I love conch pearls! Would take that pendant brooch any day.

(You have to laugh at Mary and her jewels. Three pearl and diamond brooches, pearl earrings and three strands of pearls for a day engagement…!)

StartupRepair · 05/02/2025 08:21

Love Queen Mary and her more is more approach. William should snap up the brooch for Kate.

Especially in the profile shot.

Re Kate wearing mud coloured clothes - she may have disappointed the children who would expect to see a princess. I recall Diana always tried to wear colour when she was meeting children.

eggandonion · 05/02/2025 15:23

Princesses should always wear pink party dresses when meeting children. Brown and black is not acceptable.

I agree! Also Lady Louise, who I think looks very like her.

It looks like the kids werent even told Kate was a princess as she introduces herself as Catherine. And a pink party frock might've been a bit impractical on a school trip!

Maireas · 05/02/2025 16:48

I think it's fine to wear trousers and jacket on an outing on a winter's day. I didn't particularly like the style or colours, but she looked very practical and business like - as most women do, day to day. Other princesses/queens who we feature often wear trouser suits and practical clothing, even when they meet children.

OP posts:
eggandonion · 05/02/2025 21:46

Pink trouser suits are available!
My kids all had the same teacher when they started school, she wore all sorts of colours and patterns, to keep the kids to notice her.

deeahgwitch · 06/02/2025 00:53

I too saw a big resemblance to Queen Elizabeth in the Queen Mary photo.

I was educated by the nuns - my Reception Class teacher wore a long black dress and veil! I still loved her. Sister Julie 😊

Ah bless @Maireas

I wasn't keen on the dull pink trouser suit Leti wore.

Kate is out at the National Portrait Gallery today with a group of Key Stage 1 children for a joint project between he Gallery and the Early Childhood Foundation. Looking very pedestrian indeed - black trousers, black jumper, brown blazer. The outfit was crying out for a necklace…

But, more excitingly, Anna Wintour was meeting the King to be made a Companion of Honour. She took her sunglasses off for the presentation, even (!), but more excitingly was wearing a fabulous amethyst necklace that people think used to belong to Queen Mary.

Children that age are easily distracted by necklaces - this outfit looks fine to me but I'd have worn flats (probably haven't worn heels for years!).

OP posts:
MotherofPearl · 06/02/2025 18:58

I like Leti's coat a lot. I'm on the lookout for a camel coat, but will probably wait until the autumn at this point!

Maireas · 06/02/2025 19:05

Carolina Herrera, one of her favourites.

Eaumyword · 06/02/2025 19:07

Me too, @MotherofPearl! I'd quite like a dark brown coat or a tan one - very versatile.
Think we might have missed the season now though, can't see anything in the shops or online in my price range!

KiIIingMeDeftly · 06/02/2025 22:16

There's a 'royal' wedding tomorrow as Nicholas of Greece is getting married again. His fiancée is from a well-known shipping family so wont be short of a penny. The Greek princes all managed to marry money!
